Vegas Golf Gone Wrong – My Worst Experience Ever

I’ve played hundreds of golf courses in my life, but never experienced anything like this. Rude staff, poor conditions, and a customer service nightmare that has me wondering how this place even stays in business. If you’re planning a golf trip to Las Vegas, you need to hear this story before you book a single tea time. Let me walk you through what went wrong, what you should know, and what I’ll never do again. River Golf Club in Henderson, just outside Las Vegas, presents itself as a premier golf course and tourist destination. In my experience, that simply is not true. And I say this as a person who’s played Ravier an awful lot over the years, actually lived on the course, was a member of their men’s club and other men’s groups that play there. Let’s first talk about the conditions and then I’ll tell you what happened that brought me to this video. First, the course conditions. The bunkers are awful because there’s no sand in the bunkers, which I guess is good news. You won’t get a fried egg lie or you won’t get buried in bunker sand. The problem is there’s no sand. There’s hard clay and rocks, which makes it like you’re hitting your your golf ball off of an asphalt cart path or off of a street or just in a rocky desert place and scuffing up your club. So, the bunkers are terrible. The fairways are a mixture of muddy spots and then dried and burned out spots. It’s like, yeah, we live in a desert. You expect things to be a little bit dry and maybe the fairways to be firm, but you wouldn’t expect them to be dead in some places and mud holes in other places, which is an indication of poor maintenance and bad watering practice. And then there’s the greens. I more craters than the surface of the moon. The greens are terrible. It’s hard to putt them. Harder to read them because you never know what the bumps are going to cause the ball to do. And here’s an example of one of the greens where they replaced an old hole and moved it to a new location very near to the old hole and the repair was so bad that it’s caved in and now you have a big depression right in front of the hole. Just bad course conditions. And then to make it worse, recently played as part of an outing there. It was an actual one of River’s men’s leagues and it was a tournament. We had a 6:29 a.m. tea time and we teed off and things are going great. We play pretty quickly. It was early morning round. 8:00 we make the turn and we get to number 10 and there’s a 35inute wait. And the reason for this wait is in the middle of our tournament event they started putting groups off of hole number one and hole number 10 at the same time which created a huge traffic jam and frustration. The people who were getting off on number 10 were embarrassed that they were holding up the rest of the play. The people who were playing were frustrated that we were having to wait 35 minutes. It took us an hour and a half to play the front nine and o over three hours to play the back nine in huge hot Las Vegas summer heat. That’s just not a situation you want to be in. Made everybody miserable. But then when a couple of us went to the clubhouse to complain and see, you know, see if River could do anything to avoid this situation or rectify the situation, the staff really wasn’t helpful at all. They went in the back and got a manager and he comes out and he says, “Well, we warned you.” And I’m like, “Wait, wait, warned us like we did something wrong.” Well, I I didn’t mean to say warned. He said, “I meant we let everybody know.” And my question was, “Well, how and when did you let us know because no one told me?” And the response was, “Well, we sent an email.” And I looked at the guy and I said, “No, you did not send an email because I’m on your list and I didn’t receive the email. Nobody in our group received the email. We weren’t aware that this was going to be the situation. And don’t try to tell me you would send me an email to to tell me that you’re going to be rude and disrespectful to us and slow the course down and make everybody miserable because if you send an email that told us that we wouldn’t have booked the tea time. We would have canceled and we wouldn’t have played. So you didn’t send the email and we know better than that. And it was just very frustrating to me when we went to politely say, “Hey, this creates a miserable situation. Don’t do that.” And then they tried to gaslight us and make it was like our fault by saying, “Oh, we warned you if you play the front in less than two hours, you’ll have a long wait on the back.” Why would a golf course ever create this situation? Bottom line, with the course conditions and the way that they’re mismanaging tea times and treating people who play there, there are tons of way better choices in Las Vegas and you ought to book somewhere else. I’m not here to bash golf courses. I’m here to help you have fun, enjoy golf, hold more putts, and have a good experience. From terrible customer service to bad conditions and a truly disappointing experience, this was easily the worst round of golf I’ve ever played in Las Vegas.
