Smith the captain is in. It’s a big one from Cameron. Cameron Smith. This might be a try for the captain. Melbourne wins another one. My proudest club game victory would have to be the second week of the finals. 2008. We’re playing against the Broncos. And in this year, this was Wayne Bennett’s last season at the Broncos before moving to the Dragons. So, there was a bit of feeling around the stadium. Punches are going left, right, and center now. And at no point in that match were we ever in front. He is a freak of a tcorer. 10 nothing Broncos. But I remember in the dying moments of the match, we had a drop out. I thought I was going to go for a big play and try and go for a short drop out, but a low short drop out to try and find touch, but I kicked it out the fourth. The captain goes bang. Presentation in front of the uprightes for Brisbane. I thought it was game over from there. I thought the Broncos were going to take the two points in front of the post, but they chose to run the ball. And I just remember making the first tackle and I thought to myself, I need to get the ball back in. Oh, he’s raked that ball out. So, a little bit of redemption for the Melbourne captain. Anyway, so we survived that set. I remember Cooper kicked the ball long and on that second play Ashton Sims took a hit up. See Kamanu just hit him with a beautiful tackle under the ball. He lost the ball. At that stage there was probably 30 seconds to go. Croc is 5 m out from the line. I remember looking out to our left and thought I had to find Cooper. It’s gone to Kunk. I think it went through about maybe two or three sets of hands and ended up with Greg Nless in the corner. This is just an amazing fight back. We scored with 15 seconds left on the clock and broke the hearts of a lot of people at that stadium that night. They pulled a rabbit out of the hat. Unbelievable. The way we fought back and won that game makes me quite proud. My biggest heartache definitely the 2010 season. That was a really difficult time given we had premierships taken off us plus we were made to play pretty much all of the season for no points. That was really difficult for I guess numerous reasons. Uh but we managed to get through that. But also being suspended for the prelim and the grand final of 2008, I just really felt that I was letting my teammates down and my club down and my fans down when I missed out in those two games. Penley’s going against you. Okay. Don’t go to the head. The boys did a great job beating Krenella in Sydney in the prelim, but then went on to get beaten by Manley in the grand final. Robertson got it back for the Beaver. Statements has scored. That was a difficult thing to sit through. Manley supreme. My most memorable tackle. Now, there’s been a few given one of my teammates was Dallas Johnson. Oh, they ran into a shoulder. That was an unforgiving shoulder by Johnson. I remember in the 2009 grand final playing against Paramata and he was telling me before the game, kick it to Fuy Fuy. I want to line him up first tackle and he did. He got stuck into him and fue my moy is crushed into the ground. I think as far as changing the outcome of a game, it was see commander’s tackle on Ashton Sims. He lost the ball. My most inspiring teammate moment. A lot of people think about match-winning plays or tackles or something like that, but I look at a couple of my teammates that come back from major injuries. When you witness the challenges that they face when they’re going through these injury rehabilitations, and you sort of think to yourself, wow, would they ever come back? I’m back. I’m back. Ooh, that’s not good. There’s a few ligaments that are in trouble there. When I look at guys like Slate Griffin, multiple ACL injuries, guys like Christian Welsh, multiple significant injuries, shoulder reconstruction, knee reconstruction, but still find ways to persevere and find their way back into first grade. It’s a moment not lost on the teammates, a serious knee injury last year. I find that inspiring. I just think you got to have a special quality about you to hang in there and look way down the line at maybe someday playing rugby league again. It was a one-off test match at the end of the 2007 season to play against New Zealand. It was in Wellington and there was numerous senior players injured for that particular game. I remember them naming the team and I was told that I was to captain footy side. The captain walters over from dummy half. There’s a lot of close moments below that, but giving the opportunity to captain your country was a pretty special thing. As a young fellow, I used to look up to guys like Wally Lewis and Brad Fitler, a lot of these men that captain the country and all of a sudden I had the opportunity to do it. So that was my proudest individual moment.
