World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler reflects on his final round at the 2025 FedEx St. Jude Championship, the opening event of the PGA TOUR Playoffs. Despite hitting great putts that just wouldn’t drop, Scheffler stayed sharp, made clutch birdies on 16 and 18, and took plenty of positives into next week’s BMW Championship. He also shares his thoughts on J.J.’s breakthrough season, course changes after renovations, and the mindset needed under playoff pressure.
you go. Yep. Uh I guess just start describe the day and your play. Um you know, I felt like I did some good things out there. I felt like I hit a lot of good putts. Just hit a lot of lips. Felt like I did did enough to have a really good round. Uh just putts weren’t falling today for some some reason. Overall satisfied with the week. Yeah, I mean did a lot of good stuff. Fought pretty hard most of the week. Um you know, like I said, today was a day where I executed really well. Hit my lines on the greens. Hit a lot of good shots going in the greens. just uh just ball wasn’t going in. Just just a little bit off, I guess. Yeah. How did Brad do fill in in the situation? He did pretty good. Yeah, he did good. Yeah. Yeah. Brad’s he stepped in before. He’s you know, he’s a great friend and he uh he does a good job keeping company out there. Now that he’s gone, can you talk about just JJ, where he’s been? Um you know, didn’t make the playoffs last year, now he’s had a huge season. What have you what have you seen JJ today and how he played down the stretch? Um yeah, he’s a great player. He’s got a ton of talent. I mean, he hits it really really solid. Um, I mean to to win a US Open, you got to grind really hard and he’s a guy that he gets the ball in play. Um, hits it really solid and he’s holds a lot of putts. I mean, he’s a he’s a tough guy to beat and, um, you know, you love seeing seeing guys like that have success, guys that work hard and um, you know, get the most out of their games and JJ’s definitely one of those guys that’s a that’s a grinder out here. You always see him practice in, see him in the gym and so definitely happy to see him having the success that he has. After a boil on 15, how important was it for you mentally to get back in birdie 16 and 18? Yeah, I mean, poor T- shot there on 15. Um, but then I hit some really good shots after that to get myself a look at par and hit a good putt there. Just didn’t go in. So, I knew I knew I was executing well, just need to get in the fairway on the next hole and try to make some birdies coming in. Let’s make it final two questions. What was the biggest adjustment you’ve seen from this course compared to last year after the renovations? Uh, I think the greens are a bit firmer, which makes it more challenging. Uh, there’s also a bit more rough, so definitely even more of a premium on getting the ball in play. What can you take from this week to carry on to next week? Yeah, I mean I hit the ball nicely this week. Uh did a lot of good stuff and definitely gives me some some confidence going forward. All right. Got it.
