Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “Justin Rose’s dramatic playoff win at the FedEx St. Jude Championship was welcomed here at William Hill. While the now 12-time PGA Tour winner took the most bets throughout the week, Rose – a 55/1 shot pre-tournament – was a positive result on our book compared to Scottie Scheffler, who was the 11/4 favourite and would’ve handed us a 20% overall loss.

“A lot of support was thrown behind Tommy Fleetwood in his quest for his first win on the PGA Tour, taking 8.5% of bets – equal with Scheffler. However, he couldn’t get the job done this time, which will have some fans reeling as he was as short as 2/9 in running after his birdie on the 15th hole. Fleetwood’s bogey on the 17th hole sent his odds up to 14/1, and his tee shot on the 18th hole proved costly, as his price to win flew to 50/1, sealing his fate.

“J.J. Spaun would’ve been an even better outcome – a 50% win, should the U.S. Open Champion have prevailed against Rose in the nail-biting four playoff holes. The result all but confirms Rose and Spaun’s automatic qualification for their respective Ryder Cup teams, and given his form this season, Rose will have ample opportunity to be a thorn in our side at Bethpage, as there’s no doubt he’ll be a favourite pick for punters.”
