If you’ve ever wondered how the pros get that zip and backspin on the ball, this video is for you. In this video, I’m going to give you three simple tips on how to generate massive spin with your wedges, even if you’re not a tour player. So, let’s dive in. And if you’re new to the channel, welcome. I’m Mario. I’m a scratch golfer, and here on YouTube, I give you tips, strategies, and techniques on how to improve your game. Tip number one, get your equipment right. If your equipment is out of date or old, it’s going to be really hard for you to get spin on the ball. You need clean grooves, especially with your wedges. Why? Because that’s what helps create that friction that you need. It’s really hard to get spin on the ball with beat up and old wedges. You’re also going to want to make sure that you’re using a premium golf ball like a Titleless Prov1 or a Tailor Made TP5. These balls are specifically designed to grip the face and maximize spin. Now, before every shot, get in the habit of cleaning your club face and checking your grooves. It’s going to immensely help you with getting the ball to check up and spin nicely. And by the way, guys, you’ll definitely want to make sure that you’ve got the proper grip and fundamentals in place before you even tempt your shot. Tip number two, you need to control the low point. You’ve got to hit down on the ball and create a descending blow. That’s where the spin comes from. is the friction between a clean club face and a ball being compressed against the turf. One way to ensure this is move the ball slightly back in your stance and focus on nipping the ball clean against the turf, hitting the ball first, then the grass. This forward shaft lean and compressed strike creates the launch and spin conditions needed for that ball to hop and stop. And when you add in a wide takeaway on the way back and a slightly shorter follow-through through the impact zone like you’re seeing in the video, you’re creating that perfect scenario for the ball to have spin on it. Instead, focus on matching your technique with your shot intent. So, open the face slightly, swing with a bit more speed, and allow the club head to release past your hands naturally through the impact zone. It’s not about flipping or scooping. It’s about a shallow entry, clean contact, and trust in your loft and grooves to do the work. In the video that you’re watching here, I’ve got a clean lie. My face is slightly open. The ball’s a little bit back in my stance, and I’m letting the club accelerate through with a short follow through.
