Tommy Fleetwood: Ready to ‘test myself’ in FedEx St. Jude final round | Golf Central | Golf Channel
https://www.youtube.com/golfchannel?sub_confirmation=1

Golf Central on YouTube is brought to you by the new Chrome Tour Golf Ball from Callaway. Hi there and a very good evening. Welcome into Golf Central. Great to have you with us. Anna Jackson alongside Johnson Wagner as today was moving day at the FedEx St. Jude Championship and we are in for a treat following today’s action. We got a pair of Englishmen at the top set to go head-to-head in tomorrow’s final round. So let’s see how they got there. Tommy Fleetwood with 36 hole leader by three. Wags, we now find him on the par five third and he found a fair bit of trouble early coming off of a birdie early in his round. Cannot make that mistake. I think the wind change and it got a little bit gusted. Yeah, he had a bit of a rocky start to this round. It was a double bogey. Drops to 12. Meanwhile, Justin Rose started at 10 under. This now on three. After a lackluster pitch shot, it doesn’t really matter how good the pitch is if you knock the putt in. Gets one closer. Moves to 11. And now Fleetwood on the next hole trying to bounce back from that error to save par here. Just an absolutely massive putt. Double bogeies on the par five. And just when it could have started spiraling out of control. He makes that great save. Yeah, they’re playing alongside each other. Don’t forget as well. Stays leading by one. Rosie now on five for birdie. Really nice approach shot in here. Just released a little bit on these firm greens, but Justin Rose has been making some long puts this week. Ties the lead at 12 under. These two are such good powers. They were on holiday last week in Portugal. Now they’re battling it out this now for Fleetwood on five. And he’s been rolling the rock great all week as well. Clearly sitting there at 1200 par now 13. Reed takes the solo lead onto the next hole. Rosie here on the sixth. His second. This was a thing of beauty right here. Whole location tucked over on the right hand side. Pal Mora had already stuffed it in there and Justin said, “You know what? I think I’m going to hit it inside you.” What a shot. He’d convert that to tie. Tommy at the top at 13 under. Sticking with Justin now on the par for seventh, his second. Fleetwood was in a little bit of trouble. Rosie trying to have another big swing here. Hits it close again. So Fleetwood’s got some work cut out here if he’s going to stay up on top of this leaderboard. This for par now on seven. Tommy was over the back of the green, hit a lovely pitch and then up and out of that one. Just snapped on him. So he would miss that drop to 12, but Justin makes that birdie. Takes a two-shot lead now at 14 under. Now on to nine. Rosie second had played flawless golf up until this hole. Well, Fleetwood got gusted on three and I think Rosie got a little bit of Well, I it’s hard to say that cuz the flag’s not moving, but I think he was sort of complaining the wind sort of gusted right at him. Yeah. Comes up a little bit short. Let’s a little bit confused there now. same hole. Fleetwood with his approach. Well, this one’s just a fair bit better. Lands and keeps it underneath the hole. Putting up the hill. Hits it well inside of 8 ft and converts the birdie. So, steadying the ship. Rosie would bogey now both tied at 13. Fleetwood now still tied at 13 under on 12 for birdie. Pretty quick putt moving from his right to left. Are just making so many putts on these greens this week. Yeah, we’ve seen some great putts this week. Takes the lead now at 14 under. Couple holes later, Justin Rose now for par on 14. Putting back down the hill. Left himself in a really awkward spot left of the screen. Drops back to 12 under. Now two back of Fleetwood on the same hole here on 16. Rosie just two putted to get to 13 under. Tommy Flewood over the back of the green. Hit a nice chip. just ran by but able to knock the putt in. That’s right. Gets to 15 under. Leads by two. Now Justin Bogey on 17, this approach on 18. And he was aggressive off the tea with driver. Uh and it allowed him to get far enough up there where he could get a good angle and a wedge in his hand out of that right. What a bounce back here on 18 with a closing birdie. That is massive to get him into the final pairing at 13 under Fleetwood. now missed the fairway here on 18. Had to lay up and we’ve seen it time and time again. Players laying up on 18 cuz that right rough is so thick and you don’t want to bring the penalty area in. That was the first fairway that he’d missed all day as well. He bogeied 18 yesterday and he would ultimately drop a shot there as well. So Tommy Fleetwood right now still just holds on to the solo lead through 54 holes but by a fine margin. his good friend in Justin Rose trails by one. And we’re going to get to the man who sits in solo third in a little bit. Scotty Sheffller breathing down there next. He is two back of the lead. So that really is a very very minor setback. All right. Well, let’s hear from our 30 54 hole leader Tommy Fleetwood. Tommy, I want to go to early in your round uh on the par five and you stood over ball. Well, I just want to get your take on it and how you were able to process all that and then maybe move on from that. Yeah, it was a bit of a a kuffle that hole really. T- shot was good. Second shot wasn’t that bad of a golf shot. My second shot, but it’s a really bad shot to be in, you know, hitting it in the water. Um, dropped it from there and like I I dropped it on it was it was on a bit of downs slope, but it helped me yardage wise for like a full 60 degree. like I felt like it was a really good yardage and um I just said like as I was coming down I I felt like I saw the ball move and obviously thinned it like so I which I’d like to think wasn’t what I do all the time but um so I just I just said as soon as I hit it I I feel like the ball moved but I couldn’t stop like it was you know I didn’t have time to stop before I hit it but I feel like it moved and called the official over and um and anyway he you know they couldn’t really see it. They they wanted to look back and see what happened cuz I think the the question was there’s no penalty if you hit it like if it moves in motion I think but it’s if I caused it to move and they could they couldn’t really see anything and and basically within you know it seemed like within reasonable that it that I didn’t make it move. So um you know wasn’t wasn’t a great hole. A bit of a kufflele and then I I did feel like the put on four for par was like arguably the best shot of the day for me. Oh really? Yeah. Uh when you left that hole uh with maybe still a penalty in question, were you able to put it out out of your head? Yeah, I um you know, four I I felt like four was toughest pin on the you know, I didn’t put a very good swing on it in four. Um but I was I was I was all right. You don’t know what’s going to happen. You can’t really control that. I said what had happened. Um there’s nothing I was you know, I wasn’t able to do anything about it from there. It’s just that you have to get on and and continue with the round really. So, no, I was I was completely fine. Like I said, I felt like four was a really big putt. Um I I was really happy with how I sort of stayed in the moment and put a good read and a good stroke on that and hold it and then birded five. Well, it was good shot on five and then the official came and he said there was no penalty. So, um it was like good to go from there. But no, I I I felt fine like what had happened. Like what are you going to do? Let’s look ahead to tomorrow. Uh I know how important it is when you went on the PGA tour. What do you hope to be committed to in this final round? I just, you know, I’m I’m really excited about the opportunity again. I think, uh, you know, Travelers was the last time I was in contention and it didn’t go my way. I felt like I played well that day and I was sort of in control of the tournament for the most part and and yeah, it hurt coming off and uh, but I said at the time, best possible scenario is I can put myself in that situation again as soon as possible and we’ll just have a go again. Like um, you know, whether it whether it is my day tomorrow or not. Um, for me being in that position is key really. And that’s that’s the key to, uh, obviously getting over the line and winning on the PJ tour. So, um, yeah, it’s no doubt about it. Like, haven’t done it yet. It’s been a long time. It’s taken longer than I probably thought or people thought. And it, but go back to it. Might not happen tomorrow. It might not happen the next time I’m in contention, but being there is the, you know, important thing. And I get to test myself against the best players in the world. And, um, I’m just really excited for the opportunity. Well, it’s a huge day tomorrow for Tommy Fleetwood. Arguably the best player out there on tour right now, yet to break through with a W. This is his 162nd PGA Tour start. Of course, we know he’s had the six runner-up finishes, two of which coming in majors. His most recent runner up at the Travelers where Keegan Bradley just stole it for him on the 72nd hole, five third place finish. 42 top 10s by the way. And right now he is not for two and 54 hole leads. Will that all change tomorrow? Well, we know that he will be a very, very popular winner if he can make it happen.

  1. If Sheffler keeps making putts like he has the last couple of days, I don’t see him losing this tournament. If he finds his fairways and greens consistently, I don’t see anyone stopping him.
