Tommy Fleetwood was understandably cautious after setting up another glorious opportunity to claim his first win on the PGA Tour.
The Englishman leads by four strokes at the halfway stage of the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis.
Fleetwood, 34, tore round TPC Southwind on Friday, hitting seven birdies and one bogey in a second-round 64.
He caught fire on the back nine, making birdies at 13, 14, 15 and 16 before making a sloppy bogey at the last.
US Ryder Cup hopefuls Collin Morikawa and Akshay Bhatia are tied for second place on nine-under.
Kirt Kitayama, Andrew Novak, Justin Rose and World No.1 Scottie Scheffler are also inside the top-10.
Play was suspended at 3.31pm due to the threat of lightning.
The FedEx St. Jude Championship is the first leg of the PGA Tour’s playoffs.
Only the top 70 in the FedEx Cup standings got a tee time this week and only the top 50 will advance to next week’s BMW Championship.
From there, only 30 will get a chance to compete in the Tour Championship at East lake.
For Fleetwood, though, it represents his first real chance to claim his breakthrough victory in America.
He came agonisingly close to securing his first win at the Travelers Championship in June, only for US Ryder Cup skipper Keegan Bradley to pip him on the 72nd hole with an electric birdie.
Fleetwood should’ve been in a playoff at the very least, but three-putted for bogey.
He was reminded by reporters here that Cameron Young claimed his maiden victory at last week’s Wyndham Championship.
Both players were widely regarded as two of the best players in the world yet to step into the winner’s circle.
“We’ll see,” Fleetwood said when asked if it finally be his time.
“Happy to put myself in with a chance over the weekend. I think that’s exactly where you want to be and keep testing yourself.
“Yeah, it hasn’t happened for me yet out on the PGA Tour, but I would much rather be up there and not quite get it done than not there at all, and who knows, maybe this weekend is the weekend and we’ll see, and we’ll crack on from there.
“But look forward to tomorrow first.”
