[Music] what cter does Matt Fitzpatrick use if you’re curious about the putter used by Matt Fitzpatrick one of the top golfers on the tour you’re in the right place let’s break down the story behind his trusty putter Matt Fitzpatrick has been very particular about his putter for a long time when he was just 16 years old he started using a yes golf Trac C2 putter which became his go-to for many years this putter was special due to its unique sear Grove configuration which helped produce a truer role on the greens however things got complicated when yes golf filed for bankruptcy in 2010 and was later purchased by Adams Golf Fitzpatrick found it hard to get reliable backup Putters so he had to search for alternatives on eBay and other places that’s when Sam bonardi from bonardi golf stepped in bonardi golf based in Illinois had the capability to custom make Putters and they saw an opportunity to help Fitzpatrick through a mutual friend Sam bettinardi got in touch with Fitzpatrick’s father and eventually with Matt himself Fitzpatrick was clear he wanted a replica of his yes golf Tracy to putter he didn’t want just any new putter he needed one that felt and performed exactly like his old one this was no easy task as Fitzpatrick is extremely particular about the feel and and specifications of his putter bettinardi golf made six Putters that were very similar to the yes golf Tracy 2 but Fitzpatrick wasn’t satisfied he asked for changes in the feel offset and weight this process was repeated multiple times in total they made 30 prototype Putters before Fitzpatrick finally found one that met his standards the custom putter that Fitzpatrick now uses is a bonardi dbb1 Fitz prototype this putter is essentially a carbon copy of his old yes golf model but with the reliability and support of bettinardi golf the bb1 is a blade design suited for skilled players and features the same seag Grove technology that Fitzpatrick loves Fitzpatrick’s putting coach Phil Kenyan also played a role in this transition he noticed that the backline of Fitzpatrick’s old putter pointed slightly to the right which affected his putting the new bettinardi putter resolved this issue and Fitzpatrick has been using it successfully since 2021 in summary Matt Fitzpatrick uses a custom bettinardi D bb1 Fitz prototype putter which is a precise replica of his old yes golf Tracy 2 putter tailored to his exact specifications and preferences this putter has been instrumental in his recent successes including his win at the 2022 US Open
