Hey everybody Terry Bradley here and today were going to learn how to grip the golf club and set up our posture over the ball. The most important part about the golf swing is the grip and posture. However these are the most overlooked aspects of the golf swing.
The grip :
When gripping the club what you do stand address and place the left hand on the club toward the fingertips not for the palm. If you get the club in the palm you have no control of how the club comes into the ball at impact. When you place your right hand on the club put your right hand against your left thumb and grip underneath the club. It will feel like you have a strong grip. Then turn your hands to a neutral grip with the V between your thumb and pointing finger pointing towards the right shoulder. Don’t readjust your hands adjust your wrists. and I’m sorry I just your wrist that address that this stance will feel like a very strong grip and you be right however when you address the ball with your leaning forward at impact your club will become square through impact.
The hammer whip grip
The hammer whip grip is the technique that you see on tour that makes that it seem like the pros are barely swinging. However the ball is traveling along way. If you learn to grip and set up like this you will be able to have the same kind of release to get your ball in the air and travel farther. Now you probably won’t be able to get as far as the pros but your ball striking will definitely improve. Because if you can improve your ball striking then later on down the road you can improve the line which the ball can be hit on. Your posture your set up and your lines will be a lot easier to hit when you learn how to release through the ball.
So when your postures right and your grip is right now it’s just a matter of shifting your weight to your left side and hitting through the ball and releasing to your target. Now with this kind of set up you don’t have to swing as hard to get just as much distance as you probably been getting up to this point. Remember your using less energy, using less of your back and using more of your body and a lot more of your posture and your grip!
Hammer whip/grip half swing
Now I know a lot of you are unable to a full shoulder turn that we get out here. However, you can take a half swing with this set up as long as your head stays behind the ball you will be able to get a lot more distance on your ball with a lot less energy. Notice the sound of this half swing. It literally goes just as far as my full swing.
