SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame golf programs have announced the hiring of Kara Carter as assistant coach and director of operations. Carter comes to Notre Dame following a four-year collegiate playing career at Xavier where she competed under current Irish women’s head coach, Breanna Jenco, who joined the team in June.
“I am excited to continue building my future in golf and coaching,” Carter said upon her arrival to campus. “It’s an honor to be part of two incredible programs with such rich traditions, and I look forward to supporting the team’s success on and off the course.”
During her undergraduate career, Carter was a four-time All-BIG EAST All-Academic Team honoree, earned four BIG EAST Golfer of the Week nods and was a four-time selection to the All-BIG EAST Team. Nationally, she earned WGCA All-American Scholar honors three times while being a two-time CSC Academic All-District selection.
With her fourth All-BIG EAST Team honor in 2024-25, she became just the second in Musketeer in program history to notch conference recognition in all four years.
On the course, she finished her collegiate career with a 74.40 stroke average which ranks second lowest in program history and finished in the top-10 at tournaments on 16 occasions.
Carter graduated from Xavier in 2025 with her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a focus on business analytics and marketing.
Prior to her collegiate career at Xavier, Carter was a four-year member of her high school golf team where she served as captain for three years and was named the Big 11 Conference Golfer of the Year in 2019 after leading her team to the championship.
In 2020 she was the TSSAA State Large Class Champion and finished top-10 at the TSSAA State Large Class Championships all four years.
