Playing 18 holes of VR golf on The Old Course, St Andrews (Golf+ on Meta Quest 3)
In this video, we’re going to play 18 holes on the most famous golf course of all, the old course at St. Andrews. But we’ll not actually be there because we’ll be playing virtual golf using this. This is the Meta Quest 3, and we’re going to be playing using the Golf Plus VR game. Now, if you are interested in having as much fun as I have using this and you want to get some kit for yourself, I’ve put all of the direct links in the description below. There’s also a handy little discount code for Golf Plus in there also. Now, to make the experience even better, I’ll be using this golf attachment for the controller, which is basically a shaft or part of a shaft and a grip, and it just makes it so much more fun. And I’ve put a direct link to this product, which is fantastic, in the description also. So, anyway, time to put the headset on and let’s go and play 18 holes on the old course. Right, let’s play St. Andrew’s old course. So, we’re going to go into the course list here. St. Andrews lengths old course. We’ll go for a full round and let’s set this one up. So, we’re going to play 18 holes. We are going to go for I’ll do amateur difficulty. We’ll play from the back TE’s pins medium, wind moderate, which is probably pretty true for St. Andrews. And we’ll stick to the fast greens. You can see here it’s it’s firm. So, yeah, probably ideal for this time of year. So, let’s go to start and let’s see if we can put in a good score at the old course. I’m going to go for a target of 85 because I’m relatively new to playing this game. So, hopefully 85 will be um achievable. So, I’m just going to definitely just check that this is in the right position. So, first hole at St. Andrews. Now, what I really like about this is you can use this option here to jump down. So, we can have a look from the fairway here, or we can drop back and basically take a better look around from a sort of um bird’s eye view. So, let’s jump back to the tea here. I’m going to aim just a bit on the left hand side. Now, I think a driver according to this is probably a little bit too much. The driver is going to bring me kind of close down to this area here. But if I do happen to go left or right, I’ll be bringing the burn into play. So in the same way as I played when I played the old course, I’m going to go with a three wood here, which is should just be a little bit short. Let’s go down the left hand side here. Let’s hope for a good swing on this one. Oh, we’re going a little bit right there, but because I’ve dropped down to the 3-wood, that should should bring us just short of the burn there on the right hand side. So, we have 106 y left to the pin. Now, let’s just jump up and take a closer look at the green here. So, we can see the pin is probably better to stand over here. So, we can see that the pin is pretty much in the middle on the left hand side there. And then we can see all of the slopes here. So for this one, probably landing at around about the middle there with a slight downhill putt would be ideal. So where’s the wind on this hole? Wind is a little bit into off of the right pins over there. 106 y to the pin. This club goes 110. So let’s see if we can get this one in nice and close. Oh, we’ve gone a bit left there. I think we’re going to miss the green. So, we’ll have to chip on. Not a good start. The greens at St. Andrews are massive. So, let’s just get a nice little chip in close here with the lob wedge. That’s not too bad. About 10T. Okay. I do find the putting quite difficult, so I’m not quite used to it yet. But this one’s a little bit off the right hand side. It’s usually the pace that catches me out. So you’ll see there, that was actually quite good for the pace, just not far enough right. So anyway, one over through the first hole. Let’s move on to hole number two. So for this one, this is where I think having the bird’s eye view is really helpful. We are down here. We’ve got lots of gor bushes over the center point there. And we’re going to be looking to land around about here. And then you’ll see there’s our approach into the green which is shared with 16. So driver is fine for this one. It should take all that trouble out of play if we can get a decent drive on this one. That’s pretty good. hopefully avoid the bunkers at 286 in total there. Now we’ve got seven iron here which should take us right up to this pin. What’s the wind doing? Winds into us though. So I think this club might come a little bit short. So let’s drop to a sixiron for this one. And then that should help us with the wind. And there’s where we’re going over to there slightly uphill. six iron. So, I think I’ll find the green with that one. But it’s on the left hand side. Huge, huge, huge green. This one shared, as I said, with 16 over there. So, we’re 40T away. Looks to be slight right to left, a little bit downhill. Anything close here would be good for us. That’s a really good putt. So, a little tap in here for par. There we go. A nice par. On to number three. So, lots going on with this fairway here. Pretty straightforward though. 413 y. We’ll just go with the driver like it’s given us. That’s looking good. Right hand side there. Pins looking in the middle sort of center back of the green. 131 ys into wind again. I don’t want to go long on this one though cuz there’s that bunker at the back. So I’ll just stick with my pitching wedge here. 131 slightly uphill. So, pitch and wedge. Oh, that looks good. Hopefully, it’s good for distance. There we go. 30 foot. Get an uphill putt here. Try and just get this one in nice and close. A little bit right to left. Put that left. Absolutely perfect in terms of distance, though. So, it’s another par onto the fourth hole. Now, when I played the old course myself, I’ve only played it once. Um, I was one under through 12 holes, which is pretty mad. Um, although I wasn’t playing from the back TE’s, but it was a beautiful cam day, so not a breath of wind. Um, but I had no hope of being anywhere close to that kind of scoring. But I do remember these opening holes being really kind to me and not finding any bunkers. And hopefully we’ll continue with that today. So that’s a good one. And it’s cleared all of that crap. So we’ve got 20 and 196 left that pin again. I’m just going to have a little bird’s eye view. So there’s where my ball is down there. We’ve got all of these bunkers to go over. This one here is an absolutely mammoth bunker um in real life, but you can see just all the shaping here is so so well done. And you can look around and having been to St. Andrews many many times, this this is what it’s like. It’s absolutely stunning. So, let’s have a little look at where we want to go with this one. Massive green again. Big double green like you’ll find at St. Andrews quite often. Huge bunker there sitting in the center of the green. So, we just want to make sure we find the pin. No danger going long and right on this one. So in terms of the wind again into face just now for the first few holes. Five iron 196 to the pin. 196 apparently with this club. So it should take me bang on to the pin. We’ll just see where the pin is there. So I think we’ll go with this club. See how we get on. We don’t want to go left though. That’s for sure. That looks pretty good. Should avoid that big massive bunker on the green. So, we’re 46 feet away from the pin. Let’s see where that appears. So, this one is very true to life. There’s a lot of undulations on this one. This is going to be quite hard to get it close because we’ve got a lot of the green running down from the left there. And then once we get over there, it’s going to be quite a severe downslope. So, we’ll aim out on the left here and see if we can just bring the ball in. Gone quite gentle there. This is where it’s going to pick up pace. Again, that’s actually another really good putt. So, the putting on the the VR golf can be quite challenging. Certainly, even these little putts like this, it looks straightforward, but that’s another good par. So, we’re playing these holes into wind. Quite happy. Apart from the first hole, par five here, long one. Lots and lots of bunkers to deal with. Let’s again go for a little bit of a top down view. So, this one probably looking just to land somewhere around about here, I think. And then it’ll probably be another wood in. But you can just see how many bunkers there are even on this hole. Huge amount on the right hand side. Not too much danger on the left here. So, for this one, I’m just going to aim slightly more to the left hand side here. Oh, I didn’t mean to go that far left. That’s straight left. Could be in a bit of trouble there. I think we might have actually just kept it on the fairway, actually. Oh, no. First cut of rough. So, we’re going way over here. Um, three wood on this one. I think for this one, I’m just going to go with a an iron. Probably something like a five iron, which will bring me to here. Let’s go. Yeah, let’s go with the five iron. That should be enough to carry that bunker if we put a good one on this. Just check again where we’re actually going. So, we’ve got out of it. Oh, I think we’ve gone in that bunker. Yep. So, it’s a ve it’s a very steep one. It’s saying I can use my pitching wedge from here. 132 yards. The face on this one would never ever allow you to use a pitching wedge. So, I’m going to at least give it a go with the lob wedge. Now, this is the one thing with the VR games. Getting out of bunkers is quite easy. So, I probably could get it with a pitching wedge. But to try and be true to how it would be in real life, I’m just going to fire out with a lob wedge, which even getting out from here with that steepness of face would be much, much more difficult. Um, but we’re 79 y away, 80 yards apparently with this lob wedge into window. So, it’ll be a full swing on this one. Send it in high. We’re going to struggle to get close, though. I got 50 foot just to make a par here. So that is true of plane St. Andrews. If you happen to find those bunkers, then you’ll find yourself in a lot of trouble and getting out of them is a lot more difficult than it looked there. Anyway, let’s see if we can get that one close and try and get this one in just for a bogey. There we go. So, not great making a bogey, but a difficult hole there. 395 yds. Again, we’re going over all of that. If we hit it fairly straight, then we should be able to land somewhere down here on the fairway and it’ll be approaching to another humongous double green. So, this one, just check where exactly we’re going. Straight ahead. Little fade there. That’s pretty much my usual shop shape. So from where that lands about 106 yards in, but we are in the rough here. Let’s just check what’s up there. No danger ahead of the green. Just lots of little mounds. Pin front. Right. So 110 from the rough. 106 straight into the pin. And we’ve gone we have gone left there, but we’re on the front edge. Now, with the the VR headset and playing golf, you you can get these attachments. So, I’m using the um club attachment here. I’ll put a link in the description below. It genuinely makes it so much more enjoyable. So, it’s good fun with the controllers, but when you’re using the, you know, the attachment, you actually feel like you’re holding a club. And you can see as I’m moving it around and opening and closing the face of the putter here, and it really does make a make a difference. So, uphill, quite a severe one here, and it’s going to run potentially to the right, but when it gets up the top there, it will be to the left. This is This is one where I just want to get it up that hill. If I just made it. Well, that could actually be really good. Oh, thought I was going to go in. There we go. So, slightly off the right for this one. And in. So, that’s a that’s a decent par there from the raft. So, right now we are two over. We’re on the seventh hole. It highlights on screen here the areas in red. That’s where you basically don’t want to go. That’s pretty much out of bounds. For this one, we are going over there. Again, this is what St. Andrews is like a lot of blind shots particularly on the front nine and you it that’s why so many people hire a caddy cuz actually trying to work out where you’re playing to can be difficult. But we’re going to look to land it around about here. Another humongous humongous bunker and green. Okay. Oh, that’s going right. Don’t think that’s ideal. Might end up getting caught in those. Oh, we’ve just made it past the bushes. So, into a little bit of rough here. 110 to the pin, which is there with this club. 92 right onto the pin. So, 110 with this club into a breeze. This should be pretty much a full stroke, full shot. Oops, I missed the ball there. Let’s make sure we’re lined up properly. Well, that looked good. I think that’ll be quite close into 8 foot. So, good chance here with this one off of the left. Don’t think it’s really too severe downhill. So, let’s There we go. In for a bird number seven. So, back to one over par. Okay, par three eighth hole pin at the back. Let’s check what the wind’s doing. Now we’re downwind this time. So I’m going to actually change club. Let’s go for a five iron, which should allow it to land and release a little bit. It should come in a bit lower, so it will it will run out. But there’s the pin just over there. 24 yards away. It’s going left. As long as it’s got enough to carry that bunker. There we go. So, pretty much pin high. I think we might have just ran off into a little bit of rough here. So, huge amount going on with this green. Lots of undulations. We’ll just try and chip this in nice and close. Needs to go. Needs to go. Oh, it’s got a chance. Oh, I thought was going to go in. And there we go. A little tap in here for par. 357. Straight down. Try and avoid the bunkers. That looks all right. I think with the wind assisting here, that should be enough to clear those. Might actually get on the green here. Yes. Still rolling. Still rolling. About 20 foot on this par4 for eagle. All right, let’s see. Give it enough again. Really good for pace. Just a tensy we bit short, but that’s a good birdie. So, we’re level par after nine. So, the idea of looking to break 85 should should be achievable. I know from experience in playing this, so I I struggle a couple of holes in the back nine. So, I’m not going to get too too excited too quickly. Anyway, driver for hole number 10, straight down the middle. 115 to the pin. Let’s just have a quick look at what’s going on with this pin. So, another monster green pin. Again, just on the front section here. Not too much going on with this one. Little bunker short. So, if anything, we want to go long on this one. We’re into the wind here. 135 with this pitching wedge. 115. That’s That should be good. Doesn’t matter if we go a bit long because into the wind should bring it down. 27 foot for a birdie. That’s all right. Another good putt for bass. Just slightly slightly short and right, but that’s a good part. Now, hopefully you are enjoying this video so far. If you are, be sure to hit that like button. Make sure you subscribe to the channel because I’ll have loads more of these VR rounds to upload in the future. And of course, if there’s any golf courses you want to see me play or have any questions about how this technology works, then drop them in the comments area below. But anyway, let’s get back and let’s see how we get on on the back n at the old course. Now, the thing that’s interesting about playing summer and is you obviously will never ever get to see it with nobody on it like this. When we played, we were the very very first group out. though we didn’t have anybody in front of us which was incredible and we got around pretty quickly or a certainly a good pace but you’ll never see it like this but when you’re playing VR and you look around it is it’s very very true to the experience in terms of visually um you’ll see all the other courses around you this is the 11th hole par three um into wind here 7 iron 171 y don’t want to come up short or left on this one. This is actually quite a tricky little par three um in real life. Let’s see if we can get this one on the green. Oh, I think that’s pretty good. It’s got the legs. Now, there’s a severe slope at the front of this green. And you’ll see that’s it just there. So, we’ve landed just to the left of it. Now, I actually do prefer to chip in general with my lob blade around the greens. Um, I’m pretty sure I came up short on this when I played it and played a similar shot to this, but obviously when you’re playing Lynx golf, traditionally people will bump and run and low. And I’ve just gone with a little bit more loft there. Okay, off the left here. See if we can knock this one in for par. And there we go. So, carry on. Right. Again, probably six or seven bunkers on this one. This is drivable, especially we’re downwind today. So, 299 to the pen, 300 apparently with this club. I don’t really drive 300 in real life, obviously. Um, but let’s see if we can get this one on the green. Maybe a little bit leaky, right? Possibly. Depends where that’s going to come down. Oh, we’ve definitely gone long with that wind. So, we’re in the rough at the back. Got to go over a bit of a slope there. Now, this is where I’m going to have a closer look at the green here. And the mad thing with the the VR is you actually can like lie down. So, here I can get down really low. You could lie in the floor and you can see all the little slopes. So, it’s going to after this slope, it’s going to run down. So, we need to try and just land it at the top of that slope. probably around about here. And so let’s see if I can look at the map and we can work out. I don’t know if it lets me see. Nope. Just going to try and work out where that slope would be. So a little probably half swing here. See if we can release it down. Is it going to sit on the top of that slope? Is it going to run? Oh, there it goes. There it goes. So we just managed to get on it. It’s not run as much as I thought though. So, we’ve got about 25 foot for this one. Downhill off the left and maybe breaking right at the end. No, didn’t give it enough. There we go. Another par though, right? Hole number 13 again. Loads more bunkers. Par 4 straight down. Let’s see if we can get a good drive away here. Downwind as well. So, this one actually I want to land it probably here because it gets really tight. So, let’s go. Let’s go for five wood. Although it says those bunkers could be in play. If we hit this well enough, we’ll clear them, especially with that wind assisting us. So, that should be good. Let’s have a little look at the map. So, you’ll see there we would have definitely find a bit of trouble with the driver or the 3-wood. It’s doesn’t It doesn’t look much better from here. I’m going to go with my eight iron. Let’s Let’s actually go with a nine. That should be enough to get us up and over and then hopefully land on the green cuz we don’t want to go long on this one. There’s a lot of trouble behind the green. Well, that’s looking good. All right, about 50 foot for birdie. So, it’s going to be another long putt here. Lots going on with this green. Big slope off of the right there. So, we’ll just go up to that. Let’s see if we can get over the slope and then start to run down. I don’t think I’ve put quite enough on that. Actually, that’s pretty good. Right. What are we here about? It’s close to 7 foot for a par. Keep the par run going. I think I’ve put that left. Yeah. So, that’s the thing. We’ve just just gone a little bit left here. But with with this game in particular, when you move, you’ll see here with the club, you can open the club face, close it, you see when you’re bringing it back. So, if you do attack it with an open club face, um, it is representative on this to a certain extent. So, let’s go with the driver here. This is probably not a good one to show you how that works. I’ll maybe save that for the 18th where it’s a huge wide fairway. So, this is where this point of the course where you start to see the St. Andrew’s town, the famous buildings um in the background there. So, we’re just going to be on the fairway here out to the right hand side. 279 y 5 with the wind. Let’s drop to five would I think when I played this I actually got to here in three or in two and then I put it through the back with a really clumsy shot and end up walking off with a seven I think. So it is easily done around the old course but let’s go with the fivewood here. [Music] Okay. So I think we’re Oh, we’re nicely in the green. 35 ft for eagle. Not much going on with this. Again, I it’s hard to describe. I mean, you can see it here, but if you’ve not been to St. Andrews and experienced it, walk around the course, the greens just they are so so big. So, you walk off feeling like you’ve done well cuz you’ve hit a lot of greens in regulation, but you’re leaving yourself putts of like 60, 70, 80 foot quite often, even if you are finding the greens. So, this one a little bit off the right. It’s got a chance. Well, that could go by a fairy bit. Right. Where are we? 4 foot for birdie. Just a little bit off the left hand side here. Not too much though. Oh, we’ve missed it. Unbelievable. Anyway, pars better than my seven last time. So, closing four holes. Now, the this is my favorite part of the entire course. Really, really like these holes here. So, we’re going to go with the driver for this one. you start to see much more of the town, university buildings, that sort of stuff. But you don’t want to go too far right here. Right where there’s lots of trouble, which is possibly where I could have been. I think that’s going to be a good lie, actually. Perfect. 132. Again, we’re downwind because the way the course is now playing. So, let’s go. Let’s actually Let’s drop to sand wedge. We shouldn’t have any issues off the fairway here. Oh, we’ve gone left. Oh, we’re wild wild left. But we found the green. And that’s what I was saying earlier. You think you’re hitting greens. It’s really good. But you’ll see I’m 48 y away from the actual pin that I need to go to. So, this is going to be a monumental putt. Um, let’s just see what’s going on. Loads of break. I mean, there’s no We’re back there. We’ve got to come over all of this. There’s no way of getting this close. I mean, actually, probably should just chip this cuz I’m not going to get in trouble from any green keepers. But let’s uh let’s just give it a smash. It’s going to come down that that could actually be very close about 12T. So, 12T here for par. Let’s see. Maybe a little bit slightly right to left. I’m not too sure. Not hit that hard enough. That naturally would have been okay. But anyway, pop that in. So, back to two over. Still not too bad. 16. Now, all the danger in this hole is down the right hand side. So, I’m going to go a little bit further left here with this one. Try to make sure that I don’t come across with an open face. That’s pretty good. If it comes in a little bit. Oh, we’ve missed the fairway. We’ve gone too too safe left. 124. Still downwind. Let’s go with the sand wedge. Bring up a bit short. See how we get in out of this rough. Gone left. I think it could be in the bunker here. Oh, just on the green. Just on the green. I was about to say that’s not actually too bad, but that’s the wrong pin. There’s where we’re going over there. Right. Catch that slope. Yeah, not bad. Chance here of knocking this in for par. A little bit off the right. There we go. In for par. Now 17. The road hole. This is This is where I really like this. So we can stand back here and actually look and you can see all across here. These are all the buildings that you see. You’ve got the pavilion. You’ve got the old course hotel on the right hand side. You’ve got the other course over there. You can see all the buildings in the background. And it it is just it is remarkably similar. And what’s nice is in your ear you’ve got the sound of the sea, the birds, that kind of thing. The obvious difference is when you’re playing it, you would have people everywhere. Absolutely everywhere. Um, but let’s see if we can find the fairway, which on this hole is so so important. So, that’s probably a little bit too far right. Could be. It’s landed perfectly, but I would have thought that maybe would have been a bit too far right. But, this is position A next to the the in where all people be sitting having their beers. got 187. Now, this here is such a difficult approach. Let’s go and look at it. So, obviously, you’ve got the severe slope at the front here. You got the massive road hole bunker, which hopefully we won’t end up in. And for this one, you can see from the top down view. Again, it’s just like real life. It’s so so narrow here. That’s the worst pin in terms of positioning, unless it was maybe here. So, for this one, probably going to want to just land it anywhere on the green would be good from here. So, 187 downwind. We’re going to drop to a sixiron for this one, which is bang on. In fact, I think we’ll even go to a seven just so we don’t go don’t go long. It’s looking good. It’s on a good line there. And I think with that wind that should find the perfect little position. That’s re really good there. So we found the green. Let’s see if we can make the birdie put. It’s a little bit fast. A little bit fast. Slowed up the at the end there. So tap that in for par. So we’re two over par. Par 72 in the old course. So here we are. You can see they’ve got the Russ Hotel and all the hotels and everything just as it is. You’ll see here as I move the club, like I said, we can open and close it. So, given this is such a wide fairway. Let’s try we’ll go with the driver. Let’s check with the wind. The wind’s going to be slightly off the left. Let’s try and actually fire one left and I’ll show you how how it works. We’ll see if we can get one left. So, you’ll see there. Closed the club face, gone severely left, hit the cart path. I think I’ve managed to put it out of bounds. So, it’s not going to be great for the score. It will let me drop it up here. So, there’s the pavilion here. Um I am going to instead of placing it, I’m going to play it from the tea. Um as you would and I’ll try and put a good one on this. So, we’ll not worry about the score cuz we’ve purposely fired one left there and we’ve missed the widest fairway in golf. So, let’s now just try and get this one right up the middle. That’s what we would have wanted to do if we were on a really good score. So, that one there, 56 yds to the pin. So, now we’re standing up here. We can see the RNA building and all the other buildings, cars down the right hand side that usually get hit. Interesting to see what is what looks like a a New York taxi and lots of funky cars. That’s not the kind of cars you normally see. Um, but the green here, huge green, big slope on the front there, slope off the right. When I played this one, I was actually a what did I a driver pitching wedge and then I managed to make the birdie, which was really nice cuz there was some people standing clapping at the back. So, we’re not going to make a birdie today though. But 80 yards, 55 to the pin, 80 with this club. Let’s just go a nice 3/4 length and a wee bit left. It should find the green. There you go. Pin high. So, uphill putt. See the famous St. Andrew’s store there on the left hand side. Slight left from right uphill. Not too much on this one though. Gave it a go. So, just a little tap in there to finish. So, there we are. We have finished the round. Let’s see if we get some of the round details coming up. So, I’ve actually unlocked a couple of new putters, which is um great. Let’s go to our summary for the round. So, we finished four over par. The last hole we had a little bit of fun with. Um fairways hit nine out of 16. You’d be happy with that around the old course to be honest. Greens in regulation should be hitting more because they are so big. Uh, longest hole out, 8 ft putt. Longest drive, 366 on this final hole here. I mean, let’s be honest, I would probably wouldn’t be hitting it that far in real life. Um, and 36 putts, which is actually probably pretty accurate for playing the old course. So, there you have it. 18 holes completed at the home of golf. And what a fun round that was. Now, I really hope you enjoyed this video. Something a little bit different for this channel and for me. But, if you did, smash that like button. Be careful with that game though.. My brother played it all winter and he topped the driver 3 times in a row during his first round… Really messes with your feels. and he had the fancy weighted remote holder with a grip too. But the response was surprisingly good when I tried it..
Can drive it 300+yards with one hand using that. Thats when i called it a day 😂
