Chasing Daylight – 36 Holes of Desert Golf at Grayhawk

hey do you have a favorite course out of the two tag raptor no doubt no doubt ncaa’s were there man it’s got to be my favorite there you [Music] go all [Music] right today we have not one but two incredible golf courses to check out we are here at Greyhawk and we’re going to be playing both the Talon and the Raptor golf courses both of which are ranked in the top 100 golf courses that you can play it’s also our first desert golf experience and this place looks incredible but along the way we’re also going to check out everything else that Greyhawk has to offer including all of the great food and I’ll tell you what the vibes here are pretty incredible so let’s go check it out [Music] the first hole at the Raptor course is a strong handshake to start the round it’s friendly enough but it still lets you know the course is there and it means business this is a straightaway par4 with a generous fairway giving you a little bit of room to breathe off the tea but don’t get too comfortable because if you stray too far to the left or right you’re definitely bringing the desert into play the green is where things really start to tighten up it’s slightly elevated with a large bunker guarding the front left and a bit of a false front that can send anything short rolling right back off there’s also plenty of sneaky movement in these greens so even a short putt is no guaranteed make here overall it’s a fair start but it also sets the tone for what’s to come all right so when we first got on the property right before sunup like 6:15 we got here they got this awesome cafe called Mojo it has everything you need in there from the coffee it even has like hangover drinks so if you went hard the night before they have all these different things that can get you going for these rounds of golf we crushed these awesome burritos they were so good some coffee perfect thing to start your day off here at Greyhawk so got the breakfast out of the way that was pretty good now we got a beautiful day of cloudless sunny hot golf it’s what I [Music] [Music] needed come back okay great shot one thing we quickly realized here is that the Raptor is the type of course that rewards smart play and really penalizes anything careless so keeping the ball in play off the tea here is really what makes all the difference it’s a different world when you find the fairway that’s for sure it goes from trying to uh you know make bogey at best to trying to actually have a scoring opportunity yeah there you go yeah we’re going to have a birdie putt that’s the difference of being in the fairway yeah big time stay in the short grass [Music] give it a chance [Music] save it there’s honestly something surreal about playing desert golf for the first time stepping up to the tea and seeing these perfectly manicured green fairways framed by nothing but sand and a raw desert landscape it almost doesn’t feel real one bad shot and you’re off the grass into a totally different world of rocks brush cactus and who knows what else it’s a visual contrast that’s both beautiful and a little intimidating but that’s the magic of it every hole feels like it was carved right out of the desert and you’ve got this narrow ribbon of green inviting you to take your shot all right first par three god it’s gorgeous it’s a long one though it is about 185 yards the name of this hole is hands full cuz you probably have your hands full on this one you got huge deep bunkering on each side of the green incredible you don’t want to end up in that so I’m going to take a sixiron middle of the green is the play here i left it out a little land soft all right we’re soft right side of the green all right yeah man ah pill mike you said it so this being our first time here in Scottsdale Phoenix area there’s obviously a lot of options a lot of places we could play so just kind of relying on some recommendations in fact my father’s an avid golfer he comes out here a lot to Arizona and one thing him and his group say no matter what their trip they always get 36 in at Greyhawk it’s just one of his favorites in the area just as you guys can see always like great condition the fairways the greens are fantastic it’s a fun layout plus on top of that it’s one of the spots here where you can spend the entire day and play all 36 as well as you’ve got your food spots here so if there’s a spot that is looking to be the whole day this is the one that was recommended to us and so far really quite enjoying it it’s uh it’s a fun course but it definitely has its challenge there’s no denying that one what do you think a caddyywampus is that’s a great question very terrible caddy caddyywampus stop calling people that don’t be a cattywampus out there you know slowing down pace of play stop being such a caddyy wampus that’s what it is it’s a somebody who plays is a caddyywampus that’s great [Music] all right this part three is appropriately called aces and eights which tells me that ones and or eights are carded on this hole wow this might be one of the prettiest holes out here with the views of the mountains right in front of you a lot of bunkering which is a theme here what a hole but it’s so hard not to soak in these mountain views tomorrow we head home so we don’t have these views anymore back in New Jersey so soaking it in today literally gorgeous out [Music] all right so like we mentioned before this is our first ever trip to Arizona just in general not even just for golf so uh we wanted to go big and we wanted to share with you guys our lodging and where we stayed now of course out here there’s plenty of lodging there’s hotels galore and there’s Airbnbs everywhere however we found one uh we’ve seen it on you know Instagram places like that it’s gone a little viral uh this Airbnb Siguro Point where we’re staying and let me tell you something we really wanted to go big and this place is truly a treat it is a golfer’s oasis in fact it’s so cool we ended up doing a whole video just on the house so if you haven’t seen that video go and check it out but let me tell you something this is a golfer’s paradise i mean you could bring 20 guys down here stay in this house we’re talking private chef the backyard pool the backyard greens for the chipping uh golf all day all night in the garage sim i mean the ultimate trip is at that house so check that place out if you guys are making a trip to Arizona check out Siguro Point we sure you know we’re having a blast there so give it a shot and let us know what you think [Music] how long do you think it takes for a cactus to grow that big got to be decades right right i feel like they’re not a fast growing plant you say it’s a 47 cactus 47 years like 1947 1947 i mean either we’re either way off or we’re spot on it’s one of the other it’s one of the other someone’s going to comment and say “Guys those grow at a rate of like 3 ft per year.” Watch yeah that was planted three years ago right leave it to the guys who never see cactus yep [Music] man it’s These are long par fours huh yeah they are getting hybrids into the par4 yep after a decent [Music] drive of all the excellent par three holes at the Raptor the 13th might just be the most visually intimidating it plays long from any of the T boxes and from personal experience I can tell you it’s definitely worth grabbing an extra club here be the distance you’ll get good roll get up oh just short the entire front right side of the green here is protected by a deep bunker leaving a tricky up and down if you’re going to try to save par go in oo so close boom so if you guys are coming out to Arizona I mean obviously the great golf and the weather no doubt but the night life incredible um you know we didn’t venture into Oldtown Scottsdale maybe next time we come out here we’ll definitely be back here no doubt uh but we just kind of went out locally the local scene uh awesome little bar guy was playing guitar you know great food good drinks i mean the scene was hopping for a a Sunday night I believe it was but the night life looks great out here i mean if you guys book a trip and come out to Arizona you will not be disappointed for your buddies trip i guarantee you that the closing stretch at the Raptor was where we found some of the best holes on the course including two long backto back par4s each having a generous landing area off the tee followed quickly by a tricky approach shot that tests your accuracy raptor then flips the script again with a short chip shot par three appropriately called Wii One this is then followed immediately by the potentially drivable par417 but be careful because driver does bring the front green side bunker into play so I decided to lay back with a hybrid off the tea i tell you I probably could have reached with driver but it would have brought all this into play i’m happy with that hybrid be on it bite bite bite bite frank looking for that Arizona birdie i knew I missed it off the club face instead he settles for the Arizona par all right so far solid start with the Raptor now we’ve got an incredible 18th hole in front of us tough par five and it’s the only hole so far that we’ve seen with any water so it’s going to be a difficult finish after that we’re gonna check out a little lunch scene here grab some lunch and then we’re gonna spin it around and play the talon so I’ll be very interested to see how the two compare and which one we end up liking better but so far I mean the weather we we couldn’t get a better day here so let’s wrap up the Raptor and head to the Talon oh carry carry carry oh you realize if it had carried a yard more it would have ran all the way up to the pin it would have It would have been perfect just another foot short that would have been something [Music] on to the next one that’s it between rounds we stopped into Quill Creek Cafe which is right on site at Greyhawk and it did not disappoint it’s the perfect spot to grab a bite and cool down before heading out the food was solid the beers were cold and honestly it’s just a great vibe so if you’re playing 36 out here Greyhawk definitely make time for a lunch stop that hits the reset button in the best way possible all right break’s over time to head back out for another 18 on the Talon course it’s your first time playing first time yeah we’re stoked to help yourself t scorecards sunscreen hey do you have a favorite course out of the two talent raptor no doubt no doubt ncaa’s were there man it’s got to be my favorite there you go i mean Town’s pretty scorable okay we’ve had a couple guys that work here go pretty low on the town side versus Raptor so okay if you want to go low Town’s Town’s the one for sure we luck hearing that raptor’s brutal man it’ll put you in your place quick [Music] [Applause] the ship has been turned let’s turn this big ship around ship has been turned maybe start off with a birdie so far I like the Talon better yeah so right out the gate the Talon course definitely feels a bit more getable if you’re hitting fairways you’ll definitely get some legitimate birdie looks so the starters early insight proved to be spot-on but don’t get me wrong the talon is no pushover and if you’re looking for a challenge you’ll still find it out here what [Music] [Music] the flag hunting could we have an eagle pot right maybe I had lunch and woke up a bit need a lunch now I need a coffee give me that and we’ll really make us work let him have it let him have it yes eagle in Arizona baby let’s go arizona Eagle let’s go you got to like the eagle dance you got to give us the Greyhawk the gray the Nice job dude that’s awesome i’m wearing the gray too for Greyhawk today hell yeah great job although the two courses clearly have their own unique vibe and different set of challenges one thing both Talon and Raptor have in common is a strong lineup of par 3es and the fifth hole is a perfect example of this sentinel is short on the scorecard but big on challenge with a massive dramatic bunker guarding the entire front of the green so there’s nowhere to miss short here this one definitely messes with your head a bit because if you don’t nail your distance down you’re almost guaranteed to find sand somewhere good shot there get legs oh yeah oh she got legs for me two great shots let’s go let’s go make birdies where are all the short par threes yeah right these are our vibe here [Music] [Music] so weather i mean how gorgeous is this but first time in Arizona I’ll be honest with you guys we weren’t 100% sure what to pack because like you just think we’re going to the desert it’s gonna be hot it’s just shorts and polos but actually this morning at tea off it was about 54° so it gets cool at night especially like going out too you got to bring a couple layers so we just kind of maybe we overpacked a little bit but I’m glad we did got to get those uh outer layers too because it does as soon as that sun goes down temperature does dip other than that though this is this is gorgeous [Music] i think you’re dancing left side [Music] oh good try dude this poor cactus is in the line of fire yeah there’s a lot of golf balls in it i mean a lot how many times do you think the thing’s been hit i counted i started counting i was up to 17 before I gave up you can see the white ball sticking out 17th dude it’s probably like a 300 probably there’s one spot on the far left branch there’s a hole with two golf balls in the same hole there i don’t know if you see that top left i do that’s crazy that’s nuts that poor cactus in the wrong place at the wrong time on this T- box you got some gnarly bunkers to contend with up there huh yeah no doubt i wouldn’t want to be up against that wall okay birdie putt yeah not bad a little long but I’ll take that all day come on those are heartbreakers aren’t they yeah and it puts the brakes on right before the hole sure does if there’s a single hole that’s going on the postcard you send home from the Talon course it’s definitely Swinging Bridge this is a two-tier green protected in front by an enormous box canyon and surrounded on three sides by tricky greenside bunkers and even though we weren’t tipping out the talent today we still couldn’t resist taking a walk across the suspension bridge to play the back te’s for this one with the Arizona mountains in the backdrop this is definitely one of the most memorable shots of the day here at [Music] Greyhawk overall the back nine at Talon definitely brings a little more variety and drama into the equation you’ve got elevation changes tighter landing areas and overall it feels more adventurous than the front one of the clearest examples of this being the par413th appropriately called heaven or hell if you hit two good smart shots this hole will feel like a gift but one misstep and you’ll see why this one lives up to its name playing all 36 here at Greyhawk is definitely the way to go but for most of the year doing so will mean you’ll have to chase a bit of daylight and don’t get me wrong Twilight Golf here in Arizona Desert is nothing short of magical but we didn’t want to lose the sun for what might just be the best hole on the course the Island Green 17th which is a short par three appropriately named Devil’s Drink and we had just a shed of sunlight left to enjoy it all right 17 this is the hole you see all over the internet on their website this is their I believe signature hole if not it should be uh Island Green 124 yards i shot it at Frank so just a little little wedge shot here but what a hole so far this is my favorite hole on this course middle green okay okay everything dry dry good that pin is pushed all the way back too so the danger zone try to fly it there but there’s no no room for error if you’re a little long yeah man woo yeah baby that was nice we got the number right oh yeah [Music] now go back right here it comes ooh right there great that [Music] Well we both nailed the pace two pars on this tough hole we’ll take it two cars let’s go to that closer let’s go one more before dinner yeah and then going to hit Isabella’s right after this uhhuh right it’s nice you can do everything on property here that was our goal today think about we had breakfast lunch dinner that’s it closing out our day at Greyhawk with the par 51 18th was the perfect way to wrap up 36 incredible holes of golf in the Arizona desert the hole is long but if you play it smart you can get one more stroke back here to finish out the day also conveniently located just behind the 18th green is Isabella’s Kitchen which is the ideal spot for a bite after your round oh and if you do stop in here do yourself a favor and order a good vibrations margarita you can thank us later

When it comes to 36-hole golf destinations, Greyhawk isn’t just one of the best in Arizona—it’s one of the top public golf experiences in the entire country.

In this video, we take you inside Greyhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, where we played both the Raptor Course and the Talon Course—two of the top public tracks not just in Arizona, but in the entire country. This was our first true desert golf experience, and Greyhawk lived up to the hype. The Raptor Course is bold and demanding, with long par 4s, elevated greens, and plenty of trouble if you miss your target. The Talon Course, on the other hand, is a bit more forgiving off the tee but still keeps you on your toes with dramatic bunkering, amazing box canyon hazards, and one of the coolest island greens we’ve ever played. We also checked out everything else Greyhawk Golf Club has to offer—starting with breakfast burritos and coffee at MOJO, lunch at Quill Creek Café, and wrapping up the day with diner at Isabella’s Kitchen. If you’re planning an Arizona golf trip or looking for the best of Scottsdale golf, Greyhawk is the kind of place where you can play 36, eat well, and soak in the desert landscape all in one unforgettable day.

  1. As a Phoenix local, I love hearing non-locals’ takes on desert golf—it’s all I know! When I travel and play non-desert courses, especially tree-lined or wooded ones, they feel easier to me. Anyone else notice this, or maybe the opposite when coming to desert courses?

  2. Wow, absolutely stunning courses, I love these vids, keep 'em coming fellas, they're fantastic ⛳️🏌‍♂️👍

  3. Az golf is fun but expensive but I played a course that definitely had history and crazy greens and was really good condition with multiple 18s is the wikiup real fun and good and not expensive 😊

  4. Never heard the term “Caddywampus”? It’s like it’s all messed up, disarray, out of place…

  5. Gotta say it…plural of cactus, is cacti.. Love the video..glad you enjoyed our state.

  6. The holes in the cactus, are not from golf balls, birds peck into it and have their nests..
