Hey everyone,
I’ve attached a video from two angles of me practicing my release at home on a hitting mat. I’m swinging as if I’m hitting a real ball, just working on the release as part of my normal swing.
Up until now, I’ve never really had much of a release — my typical miss has always been more of a chicken wing through impact. While working on this, I’ve noticed that I’m releasing a bit early and also scooping at impact.
Any idea why this might be happening? Should I focus more on holding lag longer, or could it be caused by something else in my swing mechanics?
Any feedback or drills would be appreciated. Thanks!

Because you’re fanning the clubface open and not closing it properly with the rotation on the way down .
You release the shaft angle instead to help close the face.
They explain it here: [https://youtu.be/kze0Ik_xVs4?si=lw_LRxyFDJGUiITA](https://youtu.be/kze0Ik_xVs4?si=lw_LRxyFDJGUiITA)
Your toe need to be starting to turn over the heel around here and continue twisting closed to the ball. You’re in trouble so you have to throw the shaft angle away

Early releasing helps you close the face more so you can hit semi decent shots and holding lag on purpose will only hold the face even more open.
This is related to your chicken wing. You need to start turning the forearms and arms to square the face. As you swing down the back of your leg hand has to twist almost 90 degrees from this position. It’s a little less but closer to 90 than you think. Since you don’t do that, you’ll have to close the face thr other way, which is the scoop.
Chicken wing comes from poor arm rotation so the elbow continues to fly toward the target on the follow through. Again, there’s that arm rotation issue. So they’re related to how you’re releasing the club.
Try hinging wrists earlier in backswing and holding them so club and left arm make a 90 degree angle all the way until near release, and release later than you think, just after impact. You’ll create shaft lean at impact. A guy James on YT ‘Aylex Golf Academy’ has instructions that would be good for you.
