Axell Hodges and Kawasaki Take Us to the SlayGround

Today we got to kick it for a bit with Axell Hodges. Kawasaki called and asked if we wanted to come out and get the tour of the iconic Slayground to which a humble G1mpy replied, “I’m on my way.” Get the tour, feel the braaps, learn to “wheelie”, and more.

[Music] my dogs uh just touched down in Sligh ground little pit stop before we head to Ventura for X Games um I Heard Axel’s riding today and the homies of Kawasaki may or may not have dropped a bike off for me let’s go see what’s going on I’ve never been here before it’s nuts Axel what up dog what’s up dude what’s going on what up bring it in what is this thing bro Electro 20 in it’s my new beach cruiser I uh I never thought I’d see the day but actually is riding on a new ebike so I think this is what he’s pulling up to X Games on for QP out do we get a laser on that to check the height I mean dude if that’s if that’s just what c pipe is like I got that no problem I thought they were supposed to go high you know at this play ground for first things first we got the at foot quarter pipe right there the takeoffs 18 ft it’s very steep so you can shoot off the top of that thing you do a big old 180 see how high you can get and you land back in the landing which is mine’s 26 ft tall that’s a 75 ft ramp that’s what X Games has been off for years just kind of the normal 75 takeoff but now over here they got the next gen ramp which is a bigger ramp it’s steeper and poppier but you can get your whips a little bit bigger off I got it set up to like a step up right now just is for landing purposes but 75 nextg ramp normal 75 quarter pipe and that’s basically what you’re dealing with yeah the track in the back right now it’s kind of in like it’s awkward stage of I was reversing the direction and changing a bunch of the jumps right now so bunch of big dirt doubles out there and I want to add some like wall rides and stuff so it’s just kind of a never ending project of seeing how creative we can get with dirt slay on 3 is a lot of work just cuz we built all the jumps how to make sure they all work so you got to kind of do the whole build and then you got to ride it to make sure it it’s ridable and then you got to go back work more on it kind of fine-tune it and then get all the puzzle pieces together with the film crew and that first line yeah was a long line and it took like 20 TR 15 to 20 tries or something to do that line just cuz like I do one thing good but I’d do something else that was was like I’d be pissed about so I’d like have to redo it I I don’t know it was like a fullon free ride Loop through here and then I brought it over here to this main section had to be 20 something hits and then I had to like finish it off with a little nose Bonk to wheelie ey that’s like arm pump by that I was just like you could see in the video I’m like death grip wheelie out yeah having my own compound it’s a lot of fun but in the summer it’s a lot of work just like maintain and you got to water the dirt because it’s so dry and when you water the dirt it kind of it holds its moisture and it packs together instead of it just being so dusty and you need that water and dirt to compact jumps you don’t want to be riding in a dust bow all day so keeps the dust down and I never knew how much work just dirt could be until I actually had like all this built up [Music] oh my [Music] [Applause] God what I’m riding this is my 2024 Kawasaki KX450 this is my quarter pipe bike so Mitch Payton pro circuit built me a strong motor good suspension I got my renthal gearing on there W Wheels pro circuit pipe blocked it out we’re ready see quarter pipe what’ I miss uh well for the business side of it we got the W Wheels we got the renthal sprockets we got the pro circuit pipe we got the pro circuit Luke suspension we have throttle Syndicate Graphics oh the hints and clutch okay we got the uh Pro race motor wa hubs W hubs what else we got it Max’s Tires chairis plas Plastics Bell Helmets s running gear El star boots spy glasses goggles uh we’re done wa Monster Energy Kawasaki R off well for like best whip and whip comps i’ generally ride a stock bike just you don’t really need a mod bike to hit a 75 foot ramp so usually ride a stock bike but when it’s quarter pipe season I’ll get a motor built and you need that speed to kind of get us high as you can clean fit dude you see the SLO on there boom look at that I go he’s a 32 so he was right yeah I’m definitely a 32 but I got the I got the skate booty you know so like the glutes go up a bit you’re looking brand new I feel brand new you this is my kid all week I might have to charge you for with the fit out of the closet you see this Leo all right let’s rip yeah I’m not touching any of that dude no uh it feels good to be back on a Kawasaki it’s like I learned on a kr250 but now I’m a chopper dude so today I think the goal is to get up on one wheel so the wheelie technicians got to teach me you know but at first I’d say just put in for gear pulling the clutch as you like just dump the clutch a little bit and you can start popping the throttle and then that’ll bring your front wheel up and as you like pop your throttle and release the clutch kind of just sink your butt back and lean back a little bit just to start pulling up [Music] we’ll keep him on content creating want to try to hit a jop want try to hit a jop yeah totally dude yeah no wheelie but I don’t know I got in the air I count it I rip I was impressed he came off first jump I saw him in there I’m like please don’t whisk you throttle but he handled it that was nice D wheelie was a little bit iffy but the guy’s jumping I appreciate you brother yeah it’s hot out here dude like get your gy ass over here got to show you you sign one of these did you I did not dud I heard you got SK you almost made it out here without doing it but if you’re going back out again you got a little sketchy over there in 11 check I heard you hit that 17t double and but wed okay really did that happen a little bit little bit on a 230 mhm 16 17t double first time bro please please please here you got a sci test okay this is like uh this is to protect you yeah no no this protect you okay oh all right it feels good to be out
