“I’m very happy,” the 14-year-old said.
“I had never been in finals before. That’s been my goal since 2023 so I was really happy with that. To be on the lead card for finals was so amazing.
“It’s an awesome achievement. I’m super proud of myself for it.”
This was O’Krafka’s third world championship and leading into it, she prepared herself by playing in several local tournaments. The soon-to-be Grade 9 student at Paris District High School also played in her first professional tournament, with an outstanding result.
“I was very nervous going into it because I hadn’t ever played a pro tournament before,” said O’Krafka, who was competing in St. Catharines for that event.

“It was two rounds and the second round I was a little bit more confident because I knew the people I was playing with a little bit more.
“It’s a really good course. I had a lot of fun doing that and I came in third. I’m really proud of how I played there.”
That result, and past experience, gave O’Krafka confidence going to the worlds.
“I felt a lot more confident this year, not even because of my skill level but because I was more used to the environment and I had friends going,” said O’Krafka, who plays regularly at Dwayne Bereziuk Memorial Disc Golf Course at Green Lane Sports Complex.
“I worked on my game a lot the past year. I was feeling good about it going into it.”
The worlds included four preliminary rounds. O’Krafka shot 52 in that first round, putting her six shots out of the lead but in the top-five.

“I think I did really well for the first round of the world tournament,” she said. “I was really happy with how I played.”
Rounds of 51, 52 and 54 followed, earning her spot in the eight-person final. In that final round, O’Krafka shot 51, tying her for the lowest round. She also scored an ace on the first hole.
Tied for the overall lead at the conclusion of the five rounds with Alison Tweedie of Invercargill, New Zealand, the two went to a playoff where O’Krafka lost on the second hole.
“My score was negative four every single round except one,” said O’Krafka, who was Canada’s flagbearer at the event.

“I can throw really far so in terms of driving, the first shot off the tee, I can do that and I’m pretty accurate,” she said, noting she won the long drive competition at worlds with a throw of 353 feet.
“And when I’m putting anywhere like 30 feet, that’s also pretty consistent. The only thing that I think I need to work on is those second and third shots, getting up to the basket.”
The daughter of Trevor and Jaimie, O’Krafka would love a gold medal at worlds in the future but for now she’s just enjoying the ride.
“I feel really good about it,” she said when asked about her future.
“I’m looking forward to playing in more tournaments, meeting new people and seeing where this takes me.”
