All right, everyone. Welcome back to the Tee Time Tribe. We are a group of Florida State University alumni who decided to take our group text and
turn it into this podcast. Week in and week out, we will discuss all things golf from PGA Tour events to our own
personal experiences. We did have the 3M open this past week. We have the final season ending tournament, Windham Championship this upcoming week before
the FedEx Playoffs start. But before we get to that, Friday, Happy Gilmore 2 came out, have to talk about it. What were our initial thoughts on it? I’ll start it off. I’d say we go around the horn, just give it a rating out of 10. I’ll start with my rating and I’ll explain why I give it what I do. I give it an eight and a half and it’s a pretty strong rating. To back it up though, it’s not… It’s not something someone who, number one, hasn’t watched the first Happy Gilmore would
give it an 8.5. And it’s also not something that if you’re not a fan of golf, you’re not going to give it
an 8.5. But if you’re a fan of golf and you know anything, you know anything about the live shit
that’s happened and you’re not living under a rock and you’ve watched Happy Gilmore. The callbacks for me and the zingers, the one liners were just back to back to back to
back to back for me. And I felt like it was just uh a hundred minutes of back to back SNL skits. as shitty as SNL has been as of late, I’m still a big fan of the Adam Sandler days of SNL. And he really produced one there. uh Favorite cameo too, which I’d ask the same from all of you guys. was Eminem by far being stunned. I not see that coming. uh But him being in the water with the oh alligators going, I’m from Detroit, bitch. Trying to punch the gators. Just, oh man. first fatality from Byrne. Yeah. And there’s our first fat talent. But, but yeah, overall, I thought that the cameos were great. uh Breakout star for me too was Bad Bunny as the waiter. uh He ended up being really funny. Yeah. Yeah. But, but yeah, good stuff. So I’m on the opposite end of the spectrum. I would give it a 3.5-4. Look, I went in with the expectation of, I know this movie is not going to be laughing the
full way through. I know it’s not going to be the first one. I went in fully with the expectation of, if I get a few laughs out of this, I will be a
happy camper. The biggest laugh for me was Scotty, just fully leaning in to the arrest, to the prison. You know what to do, hands behind the back, whole thing. That for me got me going. That was freaking hilarious. Not again. That really got the biggest laugh for me. For me, it was more of a nostalgia movie than anything. ah those characters, you know, the whole thing. They set the tone very early. I mean, this is going to be a spoiler, but like what they did to Virginia Venet at the
very beginning, it just like set a tone that I was not expecting. Go ahead, John. that was my first point when I was, that was a crime against humanity that she was killed
off in the first five minutes. She’s a good character. She’s a good character. She could bring a lot to that movie. Go on. Yeah. I don’t want to see like a down and out drunk, happy Gilmore. Like, you know what mean? It just wasn’t the tone that I was expecting at all. ah That said, totally agree. Bad Bunny, I’m not really a fan of, was hilarious. Everyone was making such a big deal about Travis Kelsey. I thought he was fine. ah Why Reggie Bush was there? I don’t know why Nelly Korda was there. I don’t know. And the list goes on and on on on on on. mean, of the… 70 Forum, thank you. I mean, some of the best cameos though were the actual PGA guys. Like I mentioned, Scotty was hilarious. The Bryce, uh what was it? Rory and Bryson going at it with playing with his nipples or whatever. That was kind of funny. I don’t know. Vern Lundquist was hilarious for some reason. again, there, I was hoping for a few more belly laughs. For me, The Scotty Arresting was really the only one that I got. And the score that I gave is solely just based on like it being a nostalgia movie. Dude, were subtle. They were subtle things. were like the same, uh like the Jack Nicklaus. can’t believe nobody said the Jack Nicklaus uh cameo. Half lemonade, half sweet tea. uh sorry, Arnold Palmer. No, my name’s Jack, Jack Nicklaus. That’s fucking hilarious. It was fun. Yeah, no, that was, that was, that was funny. I was going to get to the old golfer bit. That was my fun. That was probably my, the one scene where I laughed the hardest was at the end of the
movie, where it’s the end of that maxi golf tournament and it pans to the old dudes and they’re all sleeping on the couch. That was perfect. Perfect. Um, my rating, I’m in between JC and Ian. give it a five out of 10. Um, I grew with a lot of your points, Ian, um, grew with all your points, Jordan, killing
off Virginia in the first five minutes set. terrible, terrible tone. Like I like that the plot, I can get behind the plot where like, you know, it’s fallen him
over the last 30 years where he’s down on his luck. Like, you know, he’s lost his money because he’s made bad investments. He got into drugs or drinking, whatever. But Virginia can be there for all of that too. And like being like a good character for this movie. ah So I that was kind of dumb. She must have had a scheduling conflict when they, when they film this movie. That’s the only reason I can think that they had to She was in there for like two seconds. uh Yeah, the Travis Kelsey scenes, inconsequential to me. A lot of the cameos were well done, I think, between uh media personalities, celebrities,
golfers. ah Yeah, I think it was just, there were some laughs and like I got behind ah some of the
things. think Ben Stiller as his AA leader was good. Again, bringing it back 30 years. Um, yeah, I just, I don’t know. thought that it left a lot to be desired, not to like nitpick. Maybe I’m getting into it too much as like a movie critic about the plot, the maxi stuff. get the parallels with Liv, ah but it was a little too over the top. um, I think that Reggie Bush was actually a decent cameo, just kind of randomly out there. He was kind of dressed up. You didn’t know who he was until kind of like the end. You’re kind of like, is this who I think it is? Like, is that actually Reggie Bush? ah And then the short white dude on the max, he Haley Joel Osmond from the Sixth Sense. Wow. You 30 years later, he was a kid. He’s he’s seen dead people and now he’s seeing, uh, Hipless golfers. I mean, it’s just, it’s kind of full circle. Um, so that was, that was kind of funny. Um, but yeah. How about suitor being a good guy? I think we all saw that coming kind of towards the end there, but that was a good little
reunion there. uh Chubbs’ son, that was a nice clap back to the original one. uh So I think they did leggy and set a lot of subtleties between the first one. The last point I’ll make, and Dayport and I brought this up and I actually agree with him
on this, this second Happy Gilmore is higher rated on Rotten Tomatoes than the original. That is a crime against humanity and that can’t be the way it is going forward. That’s a joke. Agree with that. actually think Rotten Meadows was a good source, but after this, they’re out. That’s a joke. I’ll let you go eat and then I’ve got something on the Rotten Tomatoes base. So I’m a little higher than John. I think I’m going about six, six and a half. Purely because it is that nostalgic feel for me. It’s Happy Gilmore. It had all the callbacks. um For me, not only am I on board with, you kind of lost me at the beginning with Killing
Off Virginia. I’ll echo it again. That was just a crime. It kind of lost me when we got to like the maxi golf and what they were with the whole hip thing and it just got weird. And then as they went to like their Ryder Cup kind of style thing, that whole thing just
didn’t make sense. So that’s kind of why I brought it back. For me, I kind of had two or three good cameos. I think one which I’m surprised no one mentioned here was Willie Z in the locker room
saying, I’m still pissed at you for choking me out, you son of a bitch. good. eh I also, I actually did enjoy the little bits here and there of John Daly of being like the
guy that lived in the garage next door. I thought it was great. He had the points with the hand sanitizer got me to, was just trying to get alcohol left
and right. And the last one, which I thought was interesting, it goes back to your point of the old
men sleeping on the couch is every time they went back to them, Freddy couples was still eating this this cake or whatever it was. It’s just nonstop. blueberry cake or whatever. Yeah, there must be a story, an actual story. Yeah, there has to be. Yeah, so that’s kind of where I kind of ended up with it. I will say though, fun fact, some of the filming of it was done at Fiddler’s Elbow Country
Club in New Jersey in Bedminster, which I actually interned there in 2010. So shout out to Fiddler’s Elbow. And that’s also where if you saw Bryson put up a Breaking 50 with Um, with Adam as well. They, they shot that at, at Fiddler’s Elbow as well. So fun little fun fact for me, but Ian, go ahead. know, I know you had a point there about Rotten Tomatoes. Yeah. So Rotten Tomatoes, you’ll see why Rotten Tomatoes continues to rate this movie as highly
as it does only because of how clip worthy the movie was. it is, I saw somebody write, I saw somebody write in the tweet, uh yesterday the day before and I’ll go back and find it. But they basically said it’s it’s a it’s basically a tick tock movie where it yeah it’s a
hundred yeah it’s a hundred tick tocks in a row right and depending on your your attention span right if you if you’re able to if you’re not able to pay attention you could pick up anywhere in that movie. And like I said, it’s like a skit. It’s like watching a comedy skits. So you’ll be able to use all of those one liners as just video clips for years to come,
years and years and years to come. I don’t put it into the classification of something like Anchorman or Ricky Bobby, but I
think we are going to hear quite a few clips from that movie. over the next few years continue to be used, uh especially within the golf world. That’s why I think I… a lot of Sam and movies of like the early nineties that like we kind of grew up on,
they’re not rated like highly, but like they’re movies that we fall in love with because of like exactly what you just said Ian, like the one-liners, like the Billy Madison’s, the
little Nicky’s, ah why am I drawing a blank on all of the movies right now though? Dades, but like all those movies, they’re not like, Big Daddy. Yes. Daddy, like, high-scoring, like, movies, but, like, there are childhood, like, because of
the one-liners, like you were just saying. So I agree, like, the movie’s not gonna go away, for sure, and maybe, like, it will grow
on an audience. Me, I guess. I like it as much as you guys did, because of those, you one-liners that are gonna not go. Will they make a happy three? Probably not. No. Yeah, I think, yeah, no. Go ahead. no, I was going to say, uh I say, just reading back on on some of Sandler’s old, uh old
interviews about why they had made uh a Gilmore two was because he couldn’t figure out what the script should be, like what the storyline of it should be around. And that’s when they finally figured out what the storyline was going to be. That’s why they made the movie. uh But whether however much truth there is to that or or they just didn’t have the funding to get the movie made. Who knows, right? uh probably because of, mean, honestly, Liv. That may have sparked an idea where he was like, this is something that I did in the first
movie. was just like renegade golf for now. This is renegade league and I can go against them. So should we see? a great concept. think like the backbone of it was good concept. I just don’t know if they hit it well with like why Maxi Golf was different. Yeah, it was a little over the top. It could have been, I don’t know what the right word is, but a little bit more realistic
for sure. word you’re looking for. I was about to say, did you want it to be less cartoonish? Like, I don’t know what. What do you want from, what do you want from Gilmore? Okay. What do you want from Hathy? they concoct like, here’s the storyline, we’re gonna find this guy that had like a severed
ligament in his hip that made him hit the ball, who came up with that? That’s not even a half-baked idea, that’s like a quadruple baked idea. you know what it kind of goes back to? Have you seen the movie Rookie of the Year with the guy that landed on his shoulder and he
pitched for the Cubs? It’s kind of like that. It’s like they found out the ligament in the shoulder and now there’s gonna be a Rookie of
the Year too because of that. You Yeah. OK. a weird concept to me to say like, we’re going to make a league that’s got a thousand yard
holes because these guys, we can snip a part of their hip and there you go. think if they did, theoretically, they did make a Gilmore three, they would have to go
with one of his kids becoming, getting into a hockey accident or something and having that happen to him. They could continue it, but I would have rather seen that as number two of him trying to
teach his kid how to play golf. Can you imagine Gilmore trying to teach his kid how to play golf? Like that’s fucking hilarious. yeah, yeah. Killin’ Veronica was a rough one for me. Chubbs, I would have loved to see more of Chubbs’ kid in the movie. like, I thought he was hilarious. Him and Charlie Hull. Just, yeah. Yes, you had English, Billy. But yeah, you know that they did all that just so that they could have the broader reach
for the movie itself. That’s the way you get to bigger audiences. You have 74 cameos and every single one of those people who are cameos are gonna be
publicizing it, are gonna be marketing it themselves. So it’s all organic marketing. I get it. Was it necessary? Probably not. It’s fucking happy Gilmore too, but yeah. all right, we have good cameos. Worst cameo, can we all agree, is Xander Schauffele? They did him dirty. He was awful. Absolutely horrible. I was gonna put that with Travis Kelce. Their little banter back and forth was just… just stupid, Good luck. Very dumb, very, dumb, yeah. line was pretty good too. He was very, very manure. was, you I want to take a rate, not Bombay for his gin and tonic. was good. That’s all we needed to see of him too, by the way. So that was great. Yeah. uh I don’t know who is your best or worst? I mean, I think my best cameo was Willie Z. I think the callback for him to be the caddy, I think that was just perfect. um I mean, I think my worst had to be Travis Kelce. I just, I didn’t think of anything of it. I understand why they put him in there. It’s a bigger name, but. wasn’t necessary. It wasn’t. You could have put anyone in there and they would have done the same exact thing. Yep. Jordan. easy role for him. Yeah. Jordan. I mean, you gotta say Bad Bunny. I mean, he was hilarious as best cameo. Worst, I don’t know. All three of those kids, they were, the Muni scene where he’s like trying to first get
back at it and he sucks, that was, all three of those kids are like famous. I think one of them is Margot Quali, maybe, I think. they’re all SNL. All three of them. Yeah. dudes is from Please Don’t Destroy. And then I think it’s Margaret Colley, who’s like a great actress. But like that scene for me just didn’t do anything for me. So I don’t know. Didn’t need to be three quote unquote famous, you know, people, whatever. don’t know. Didn’t do it for me. Didn’t do it for me. his line in the woods. Hey, you find your ball? Yeah, man. I just love rooting around a poison ivy. was funny. There are just so many great one-liners that I don’t know, I think they’re to carry off,
but it could be just me. It’s all good. they made a sequel. think for our generation coming up on Happy Gilmore, one of those things that we wanted to
see, did it hit, did it not hit, that’s for everyone else to decide, but I’m glad they made it. it would, it was like, it could have been better, but also could have been way worse. So it’s like, it was fine. Yeah. I think overall it was just the, yeah. Yeah. I think it was just, it’s hard to like that original one. It’s hard to make a sequel. That’s why they took 30 years. Cause they were just like, we don’t really want to botch it. Yep. So, so we’re all on the same page too, that we’re going to, we’re going to buy our buddy
AJ that, that hockey putter, that hockey Odyssey putter. Like it can’t get his putting can’t get any worse. So that’s fire shots fired shots five. call him in. Oh boy. All right. Well, moving on. We’ll have a little recap of the 3M Open. Again, it was second to last tournament before the FedEx Cup playoff start. We had our winner, Kurt Kitayama, 23 under with a Saturday 60, which was the second shit
60 that was shot in this tournament. He did make a jump from 110 in the FedEx Cup rankings to 53. So he’s pretty solidly. into the field of 70 for next week. Still looking for the first win for a tri-bet. Tony almost finished Dead Last, so my apologies. It didn’t matter, it fell apart over the weekend. yeah, and uh our spear bets, none of us hit either. So not a great tournament overall for our bets. a spare bit, sorry. I’m gonna start switching my tri bet to spear bets, honestly, just so that I could win
something. From now on, my final tri bet, like last minute, I’m just gonna go, all right, now this
guy’s gonna go over here. Because I actually wanna win, I wanna win somebody here. Don’t we all? Tried to tell us a couple weeks ago. Tell us again. Tell us again. Let’s try to win it. yeah, all right. I think we didn’t think about this last week, but we really wasn’t on our radar. Last Monday night was the premiere of Happy Game War 2. So a lot of those guys came straight from the open to New York. Tony Finau among them, they played in that tournament and they went straight to Minnesota
after that. So we didn’t have a whole lot of prep slash probably it was also, his sleep was all off. Hand up, we got. We gotta know these guys. Ian, that’s actually on you. You’re the wag follower, know, follower wise. This is actually your fault. Sorry, I was gonna, I was gonna say that this is collectively our fault, but I’m
reversing, it’s all your fault, Ian. The two of you are one. I will take the hit. I will take the hit on the female. Yep. E, you can blame me for that one. The rest of you Fox, I got nothing for you. Wait, Max Griserman wasn’t at the premiere? I thought he was in the movie. god. Amelia, I don’t agree. Love. wasn’t actually. Yeah, he got in there. Whatever. No different guy Well, couple quick notes on the 3M. Talking about Kirk Hediyama, the winner, had 32 birdies on the entire event, 20 of them on
Saturday and Sunday, which is just absolute bananas, which I want to talk about Chris Goddard more in a little bit, but he finished T10. But it didn’t matter. no one, there were so many guys that were going so low, but 20 birdies on Saturday and Sunday. didn’t matter if you had your best stuff. This guy was just throwing darts. Just every single pin on Saturday and Sunday. There’s no caution for anything. He was just feeling it. And really cool that he had his brother on the bag. ah I love that kind of stuff. The two of them kind of celebrating the win. Kidi Amma’s second win as a pro. ah So really cool for him. I didn’t know he jumped up that much. So cool for him if he can get inside the top 50. Like you said, we got one event left if he can get in there. Really cool for him. One interesting little tidbit. It’s the second year in row. How do I phrase this? So Kiteyama won by one over Sensei, who won? Who did he beat? Hold up for me. Wallace, thank you. So Kiteyama won by one over Wallace last year. Johnny Vegas one by one over Max Grazerman. Yeah, for more mention, Max Grazerman, who never got mentioned once on this podcast and
now getting a lot of screen time. um So back to back events where you have a one shot winner. So clearly something in the air over there. Guys are going super low. Cool for them. um And then I’m going to deviate from the, from the 3M for a second. Shout out to our FSU girl, Lonnie Wode. Huge. win in her first career start as an LPGA professional becomes one of three women to win in
their pro debut. You gotta go back two years. Rose Zhang did it in 2023 and then he got to go back to like the seventies. So she’s one of three women to pull at that feat. And yeah, she was awesome. So cute shout out, FSU shout out. Good for her. Good for Kitiyama. Good event. Last thing I’ll say before I pass off to someone else, shot of the tournament was Happy
Gilmore-esque on Thursday. I don’t know if any of you boys saw this. Patton Kizire going into 18, hits his, going into the green on 18, he’s coming up like 20
yards short and hits the massive floating logo in the middle of the pond. Ball bounces off the logo. and hits the green, rolls off the green into the back. you know, saved him a stroke from going into the water, but just like so on cue. It was literally out of the Happy Gilmore. It was hilarious. ah But yes, we got a little bit of everything at the three. Yeah, he hit it. It was part five. So then he was on in two. He chipped and he hit it burning the hole. Wasn’t going to happen, obviously, if that went in. And then they moved that like 25 feet right after that. They were like, apparently this is too close in play. So they moved it further into that pond there. So it wouldn’t go back onto the green. I’ll be quick. um Conditions were insanely soft this weekend. They were throwing darts. They were just plop, plop, plop. Nothing spinning, nothing bouncing. Kirkiyama was just put on a clinic, just shaping the ball too. I mean, he plays a towering um draw and it was just pin hunting. And like you said, JC, the 20 birdies over the weekend, um the 60 on Saturday set him up
um for Sunday. A couple of guys who were up at the top, Akshay Bhatia, I think he finished four over
yesterday. He did not play well. um A lot of people kind of came out of nowhere, had low days. But this, feel like Kurt Kidiyama is going to be like every two years. He’s just going to win one tournament. won the Arnold Palmer two years ago. So I gave, or yeah, bail. So yeah, he won it. And he was kind of like, you say he was like 110. So he’s kind of on the cusp of, you know, he’s pretty close to not being guaranteed his
car for next year. And then he wins this. And so yeah, he’s good for another, another two years. And like you said, super cool to have his brother in the bag. Apparently I don’t know how true this is. His brother’s LinkedIn page is like he’s open to work. ah Don’t know how much show he’s open to work now after after this weekend. So cheers to the kid. Yeah, I saw a great stat on Sunday as well regarding the most golf balls in the water. 3M on the last two holes of a finishing PGA event is the 3M. Over, can you guess the other two events? players. Yep. And then what’s the one after that? Same course over here, tour stop. parts every year, yep. Masters. Passers? No water balls. PJ Nashville. Yeah. hmm. Yeah. Yeah. No, that’s it. That’s it. Yeah. So crazy. uh Crazy event. Crazy event to have that many golf balls the last two. Shout out to our boy, nappy time. Jake Knapp, who big fan, big fan of that buttery swing. He went for it on 18. Just just came up a little short. God. Hurt to watch, but he hit it well and just misjudged it. I feel like he comes up just a hair short uh at that last moment. uh It’s never putting though, that’s the issue for him, which I think is gonna do him
justice uh once he does dial in those short irons. uh But for now, keep chugging away, buddy. I’m rooting for you. You’re still in my roster. You’re not on the DMV for me. So uh Keep it up I just want to point out one thing about Kurt Kitayama. After shooting 60 on Saturday, for him to follow up the front nine, I saw that he shot 29
on his front nine on Sunday. I mean… Well, the first three holes were playing super easy. So a bunch of guys were going birdie, birdie, birdie, and it kind of just set the tone for
the rest of the course for them. Yeah, I mean, I was just looking through here. So there was the two 60s by Kurt and who was the other one here? Adam Svensson There were three 62s shot and then there were seven 63 shot Soft conditions, It’s wild. It’s wild to think 20 under was top three. We had Kiteyama hit one on Sunday. It was on 14 out of a fairway bunker that just, like you were saying, John, there was no
spin, no anything. It just landed like two feet from the pin. It was an insane shot. And then, I mean, you got to give him credit on 18. He puts it into the bunker and he’s got an awkward stance and no sweat, no problem. Probably the shot of the tournament. Like you’re saying, John, he’s playing for his card and huge pressure moment for him. He’s only got the one shot lead at that point, but just no problem, two puts to win, and
he gets it done. So yeah, mean, hard to argue that he was the best player this weekend, all four days
really. Yeah, I think the best player won. Yeah, do you guys see number 14? Is that what you’re talking about, Jordan? Yeah, yeah, just looking back at it, showing those numbers, 272 drive and then 191 yards
to two feet. So get you some of that on the back nine of Sunday to win. in the lead. So quite a clutch shot. Sorry, go on E. And then I was just gonna say our DFL award goes to Mr. Tom Hoagy. Hmm. oh more Ryder Cup Tom Hogan. Put it to rest. Put it to rest. Thank God. Those are good times. Remember those episodes where he was like 12, 13, you know? Goodbye. Goodbye, old Prince. then the other interesting thing about em when you look at who finished last, you will see
Dylan Wu was disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard. And I saw someone post, he posted something on Twitter last year when Jordan Spieth got
disqualified from the Genesis for the same thing. And he followed it up. with a retweet saying, it’s just simple math. They’re professionals. Like, check your scorecard. So then someone put that out and was like, Yeah. A little bit of karma. That’s speaking of speaking of the, uh what happened last week with the open John, feel
like, I feel like this needs to be a recurring segment of yours. This John’s John’s big book of rule changes. That’s like, the fuck cares, man? Just, just add the score. Yeah. math, we’re kicking people out of the tournament over this. Dock them a stroke, dock them two, dock them three, whatever. We’re kicking them out. make the cut anyway, but I agree with you. I don’t understand how… I mean, I see it like if you’re in the lead and then you sign for a three when it’s a
four, okay, so change the score, give him the score he was supposed to get. Because if you sign for an incorrect score, but it’s over, you take that score. Yeah, can’t, we have cameras everywhere. So everyone knows the score. there’s cameras following you around. Like, and they’re tracking your scores for you. If they weren’t tracking every single player scores for you, then I’d be like, okay,
that’s fine. get it. Yeah. Right. If you’re trying to tell me that I shouldn’t be following the PGA tour app, like, all
right, we got bigger questions around what we’re doing here guys. But I don’t understand in a world where we can do that. And I really hope it’s not some bullshit like professional tennis uh where it takes like
three fucking decades for us to change to the automated, to the laser, what is it? To the uh laser line judge. Just get rid of them. Just get rid of them. Nobody needs it. Sure, you can have one at Wimbledon just for shits and gigs, but. It’s not necessary. They’ve done it in soccer. They’re doing it in football Every professional sport has it now. Just get rid of I’m just, I’m seeing a 2028 presidential ticket, PJ Tour, Jill and Wu can’t be trusted. Send them out there. That’s what I, that’s what I’m taking from all this anyway. Yep. said I wanted to circle back to Chris Gotterup and I want to talk a little bit and I want
to talk a little bit of Ryder Cup before we get to the Windham if that’s alright. uh So I want to give you the last three finishes for Chris Gotterup. One the Scottish Open, T3 at the British Open, T10 at the 3M. And we were just talking about how Kiriyama was throwing darts. So the T10 finish is an impressive finish in my book. I’m going to compare him to a captain’s pick on the last Ryder Cup, Justin Thomas. In those same events, Justin Thomas last year, cut, cut, cut. So I posed a question that we brought up a little bit last week. Ian, you touched on it a little bit. I think it’s an important thing to discuss. For the Ryder Cup, do you want the hot hand or does it not matter because you just need to
be hot those three days? My take, I want Chris Goddard up on this lineup. I think he’s played his way onto this team. Name me a hotter player in golf right now. You cannot. Ian, thank you for raising your hand. You I’m um in. I’m fucking in, man. Yeah. Yeah, man. Because, Bert, do you have the updated numbers for us? Hit us. It didn’t change from last week. I there’s not enough, I don’t think, points yet. then different topic because I know people are going to want Colin Moor to call on this
team. And I think he’s going to be the quote unquote Justin Thomas of two years ago. People are going to want him because of the name of what he’s won. Right.
I think that’s the comparison to JT. But there are still other spots that need to be filled. And I think for me it’s becoming almost a no brainer. that Goddarp is going to be on this team. He’s got the, if you look at his record from an amateur perspective, he’s got the, he has
the success that we’re looking for. He’s got those, he’s got those cojones. Like that’s what I want to see. Somebody who’s like got some ice in their veins, right? also, I think, John, you brought it up a couple episodes ago. Bethpage, Bomber’s Paradise. Sign me up, Chris. Come on. Yeah, the kid has the game. He’s from the area. Give me a reason why he shouldn’t be on this team. Give me Bryson and got her up in a two ball. Let’s go. or give me death. Yes, let’s go. Whoever is under 190 ball speed loses. They’re gonna be playing each other all day. It’s gonna be like whoever they’re playing on the Euro side and they’re just gonna be
playing games with each other. ah no, look, Ludwig was the Euros two years ago, came out of nowhere. He was hot that summer. uh He was their last pick and he obviously worked out well. They smashed us. So this Chris Gotterup could be our Ludwig this summer. So I think this is… I want him on the team way more than I want JT on the team right now. um I want the hot hand over experience. I Keegan’s going to feel the same way too, because he’s not part of that little click
space, the Thomas, the Ricky, you know, he’s, he’s, saying he’s anti that, but he’s, he’s not beholden to them at all. So I like, I think they got her up. We’ve talked about this every week where like, if he continues better play, there’s,
there’s going to be no reason why he’s not going to be on this team. Well, I think it goes back to a point, I think Jordan, you said it last episode or two
episodes ago, where Keegan has every right to take whoever he wants after those top six are in. And right now, JT is seven, Morikawa is eight. They don’t have secured spots. I don’t think JT is playing this week. So the only way he can make up his hundred and eighty points or so is the first two of the FedEx Cup playoffs. Is he gonna make enough to jump in there? That’s yet to be seen, but I could easily see if some other people here on this list are
starting to play well, that Keegan doesn’t have to take him. You know, I mean, we have Chris Gotterup, I think we’re all in agreement. The way he’s playing should be on the team with the hot hand. I mean, you got other names like Ben Griffin, Matt McNeely, you have the Cantley. Berger, I mean, you can make an argument that this season alone, some of those names have
played better than JT and Colin. Top Gun’s kind of lost his game a little bit in the past couple of weeks, but to your
point, yes, I think there are options. And I think just, Gaurav made the conversation a little bit more complicated for Keegan. And, you know, one name that we haven’t really been saying, but like, Brooks deserves 10 %
of a look, in my opinion, just for who he is and what he’s done at that course. It’s looking like he’s gonna be on the outside looking in, but I can’t fully discredit him
as they say here talking about it. Probably, what, two, three months out? Yeah, I mean, I’m just looking down the list here. There are some names that are like 30th, 33rd, like Jake Knapp, he’s 34th right now. I mean, he’s been playing pretty solid the last couple of weeks. He ain’t making the team. Hmm? I wouldn’t write them off so soon. an outside chance if Keegan wants the players that are playing well. There you go. If Keegan wants to put together the best team of those that are playing well right now. I could absolutely see an argument if NAP decides to go, you know, top 10 top 10 top 10. trying to say about Ian’s point last week. Is it the best players right now or is it the guys that you know are going to play well at
that event for those three days? Because Colin can turn it on. When he turns on, he’s one of the best golfers in the world. He’s proven that, major winner. So, Ian, you brought up the point. It’s going to be a very, very interesting debate leading up to the event. When do we know when he has to make his decisions? Great question. The team is solidified, well the top six is solidified after the BMW. I don’t know when captain’s picks need to happen. Is it after the tour championship, like right after? We’ll Google it real quick. Who finds it first? don’t even know if there is a timeline. I would imagine they want to do it somewhat soon after the top six are solidified, just so
you can… I I don’t want to say they haven’t practiced, but at least get some things together. So top six eligible players for the U.S. Rally uh points list following the BMW Championship on August 17th will make the team. Captain Bradley will also have six picks, captain’s picks, which will be announced in
August following the 2025 Tour Championship. So sometime just past the Tour Championship. the 25th, yeah. uh So it’ll be back to back. he’ll announce the top six eligible players will be solidified on August 17th. And then the captain’s picks will be the week after that on the 25th. sense because once the top six are done and solidified after the BMW Keegan’s got that
last week to see who might be there. So then the question becomes, I mean, we’re just going down a big rabbit hole now. That’s what I was gonna say. Like what if Colin or JT didn’t make the top 30 and didn’t make the tour championship? I mean, that happened to JT, right? Yeah. Yep. Where’s Colin right now? He’s eight. crazy things that way. JT is that he was like the only bright spot two years ago in Rome. that for me carries a lot of It depends on what Keegan wants to do with his team. If he just values distance over, distance and like hot hand over experience, then you’re
going to take your goddard up. might take a nap depending on how he plays over the next month, or you’re going to take
JT. but besides Goddara, I think regards of who Keegan picks, even if he, and we haven’t even
talked about him picking himself. Keep up. he needs to. And Bryson’s getting a spot. yeah, if we say top six, then you have Gutterup and Keegan. So now you got eight and you got four more spots left. You could make an argument for anyone else legitimately, regardless of how they’re
playing. And let me just, sorry, sorry to go back to Morikawa, but I just, I think he’s got too
many screws loose right now, going back to what I said the other week with his putting right now. Let’s start from, you guys want to start from April or you want to start from May? Let me walk through his… positions. May. All right. May. Truist Championship. T17. Not bad. Not great for number. Limited field. Yeah. PGA Championship. T50. Memorial. T20. Okay. Limited field. US Open. T23. For top 10. Yeah. good. But he shot 70, 70, 74, 74, 70. Traveler’s Championship, T42. Rocket Classic, T8. Genesis Scottish Open, cut. The Open Championship, cut. That just doesn’t, to me, just doesn’t scream, hey, I see myself being uh an easy in as a
captain’s pick at number eight on the list. an easy in by any stretch of the imagination I just think if you’re Keegan Bradley and you
leave him off that team you have to answer a lot of questions and It’s almost easier to just put him on the team Yeah, it’s not that simple though. It’s not that simple, and you know But Ian, you can also make the argument that if you go from what you just read off, I have
it up here too. If you go earlier this year, you could go century second, Pebble Beach 17th, Genesis 17th,
Arnold Palmer second, players 10th, Masters T14. So he was top 20 consistently for that three month stretch. And. as we all know, you can play good golf for a short amount of time, but if you’re not… Give me three days. But is, yeah, I just don’t, I hope he finds it. Let me put it this way. I hope he finds it. I hope he shows his, hope he shows uh Keegan something uh at the championship, but man,
I’m gonna have to see a lot for me to have confidence in him. You can also make these arguments too here that like the Friday and Saturday, the Ryder
Cup, it’s teen golf, right? So there’s not as much pressure necessarily to carry, you know, your match. Sunday it’s singles, but those first few days, you know, you’re playing basketball,
alternate shot. So for someone like him, who’s, you know, clearly kind of going through it the last month,
month and a half, two months, however far back you went in like. If he can kind of that little bit of that pressure off in a Ryder Cup setting where he’s,
you know, he’s done well before he’s been on a winning Ryder Cup before. Like Jordan said, it’s kind of like you have to have a, assuming he plays decently well
the last couple of weeks of the season here, you have to have a really good reason not to put him on the team. I think realistically, I mean look, we have a couple months out, but, the top six, you got
Goddarp as seven, Keegan picking himself as eight. I think realistically, JT and Colin are nine and 10. So it comes down to two spots. But look, there’s a long way to go. Jake Knapp and Brian Harmon. Ha ha ha! Opps, I’m suspect. you, John. Slap you. Harman’s 12 right now, so this isn’t me pulling something out of my ass. He’s up there. Brooks and Jordan Spieth, lock it in. There you go. We solved it. Taylor Gutes. Goochie, goo. Yeah. real is not good. Taylor Gage, Maxi Golf Dynasty, go. m Good lord. Oh god. really, fast, really fast, really fast, really fast. We do have a mini dynasty brewing over on the live tour. Um, walking Neiman. The newsletter. Yeah, did you get a newsletter? I didn’t get the newsletter, but I did see that Wakin Neiman won the individual for his
fifth individual win on live this season. I think he has the most individual wins on lived in general. Why the man can’t come over to the PGA when I have money on him and put together four
rounds, I can’t know. But in any case, there’s your mini dynasty of the week. Alright, Burke. Realist back in. Alright, well we will get to another set of standings here. Like we mentioned, Wynnum Championship, last event of the season for those just outside of
top 70 to make the FedExCup playoffs. um eye twitch when you said the word window-y? Probably. I’m very happy no one brought him up for the Ryder Cup conversation. So we’re clear that he’s not making the team. So if. out. he was like Shooter McGavin when they were talking about Happy. They told him that Happy had won like six gold jackets. a little on the chair there. I would fill his pillowcase full of golf balls and beat the shit out of him! If Windham is selected for the Ryder Cup, I will gladly wear a European flag and go to
Beth Paget myself. boy. Okay. Anyway. How far is the drive, Berg? I don’t know, probably five hours, six hours? No, it’s worth it to go root against Wyndham. All right, so we got Wyndham Championship this weekend. Top 70 make it to next week’s FedEx St. Jude. Some noticeable names still outside of top 70. Nikolai Hoegard is 71 right now. We got Chris Kirk at 73. um John’s favorite, Kevin Roy at 76. We need a 30 for 30 on this guy. I had not heard of him until the rocket and all of sudden now he’s 76 in the standings. I thought he may as well be a 776 in the standings. How? I don’t know, probably. Sponsored by Sofa. Couple other noticeable names the other Hoygard brother Rasmus is 82 a surprising one for
me, although he hasn’t played well Adam Scott’s 85 um Matt Wallace 92 So there’s some names out there no one that I can see That’ll be in the running. It looks like for a Ryder Cup position um Max Homa is gonna need a lot of work sitting at
106 right now Yikes. But I was looking up like what the point structure is for these events. So you have 500 for the win, 300 for second, 190 for third. So, home was gonna need what looks like, let’s see, he’s sitting at 106 with 351 points. 70th right now is 595. So you’re telling me there’s a chance. There’s a chance he wins. mean, anyone in the outside top 70 win, they’re in. So it’ll be interesting because I love this tournament. You got me there, Ian. I’m not going to say the exact name of the tournament for that reason alone. But I do like on Sunday when they start having the projections of he birdies, he’s this
standing, he’s birdie, he bogeys, he does this. So that’ll be fun to kind of watch throughout Sunday’s coverage. ah Side note for you, Eric, we’ll call this the Hotel Championship going forward so that we
don’t mention that name. I’m okay, I mean we can call it the hotel championship, we can call it the W. a hospitality championship. championship. There you go. I appreciate that. we got a title this episode that the movie review on hospitality open. We’ll just call it the damn championship. forgot about J.C.’s boy Rio. He said Tony, he’s 70 something. 82, sorry 82. So he’s not out of it. guys are the real deal. He just didn’t want to do it when I had money on him. No, he’ll do well this week, we talked about him, but you know. Real fast on our boy, Lou Clanton. He was top 20 going into the weekend and then just did nothing on moving day and then shot
four over on Sunday. I hope he figures it out because he’s got too much game and he’s too likable of a guy. It’s early in his career for sure, for sure. You’re right, you’re right, you’re right, you’re right. I just, I had him as my spirit bet so I was just a little disappointed. Are you saying he’s not living up to the Lottie Wode standards that she’s now setting? up to the Laude Road standards because she just set the bar into the stratosphere. uh Interesting stat. Forgot to mention this. The Women’s Open is happening this week. uh They’re playing over at Royal Porthcall. I did look at DraftKings. Lottie is actually the favorite. Oh, over Nellie. Wow.
All right. Did you guys see the TaylorMade bag that they built for it? They made like a dragons, uh a castle and dragons themed. it’s a sick bag. But anyways, back to your normal programming. em One quick side note on FedExCup. We can talk about this a little more in depth as the playoffs happen, but they did
restructure all of the bonus and how the em Tour Championship is actually There’s no shots. So whoever wins at the All-Star Evenpar, whoever wins the Tour Championship, also FedExCup
champion, but they’re also restructuring the payouts Award those that played well throughout the whole year so quick note, so they’re taking
the top 10 after the hotel championship this week So top 10 will get a part of that bonus They’re gonna pay out the top 30 after the BMW championship Based on those standings
because their points do move over with them through those first two FedEx Cup playoff events And then the normal will be paid out for the tour championship. So it’ll be interesting to see how this kind of sets up and who gets what. em But I thought that was an interesting note of how they’re doing that this year as well. Love that. I think that’s the right way to do it. It’s not quite as thrilling, but I think it’s the right move. If you play well for the full year, you should win the race for the FedEx Cup, or you
should win at least something for the FedEx Cup. It’s a hedge for the FedEx Cup to be… worthwhile to these players to actually put forth a little bit of effort in the tournament
itself to win that last bit because they’ve already won some and they want to win the rest. I agree. Any any final thoughts in FedEx cup or should we get into our bets for the week? yeah. hospitality. Do it. Let’s start with our good old tri-bit. I got one. Lead us off. Show us the way. I was going to do him for my… Sorry, pause. I was going to pick him for my spirit bat, but we’re going to go with the tribe. And I’m going to pick… He had a very strong finish this weekend. He’s out the Republic of South Africa. Christian Bezejman. Very nice. good perk I think he’s… he’s like 74th. ah So he’s got a look. He’s got something to play for. Roll it. I’m gonna go with our aforementioned Max Grazerman. Never mentioned once on the podcast in 15 episodes. I picked them last week on one of my picks. Alright, then I’m changing my perk. I guess I should get that out there now instead of like after the episode you’re like,
damn it, he picked him last week. Cause I was gonna take the postman, but I like Razor Man, I’m sticking with it. Give me Max. Yeah. All right. So I was going to pick Siwoo Kim for the tri bet, but I’d like to win some money. So I’m winning here. I’m picking. So he’s, he’s gonna be my spear bet. ah But I feel like, I feel like we’re going to see a good week from our boy Keeks. I like it. I like seeing him. Yeah. Okay, I’m picking someone who I threw money on after Friday to finish top 20. He played decently well. I think he finished two shots outside of it, so didn’t hit it. But he’s currently sitting outside the top 70 looking in at 89th, so he needs a solid
week. I’m going with Tom Kim. Oh, okay. Former winner. Good for you. see here. So you picked Keegan, we got Tom Kim, we’re rounding out. Oh, juicy. 915 bucks this hits. Love it. You had my curiosity, now you have my attention. right. 915 you say. All right. All right. Okay then. well I know this is gonna be a surprise for the spirit bets but my spirit bet is Siwoo Kim You don’t say. I know. I know. I’m taking the guy who’s right on the number. Gimme space. SPA Don’t me down. My name’s Ake. I am taking… Where is he? Oh, SunJM. Damn it. ah choice, good choice John, good choice. Eric, you don’t have to go last every time, man. You can jump in whenever you want, you know? kinda like it though, because he’s always the last gamer. Yeah. Wildcard. Here we go. He’s going to give us three choices. No, no, that’s usually for the tri-bed. Okay I will say Kevin Neal was also great. yeah, Forgot about him. Psycho. I think because we threw some shots at him from the pod, he loves this guy. I think he needs a solid week as well to finish inside top 70. I’m going with Chris Kirk. That one’s for you AJ. Spearbet. Yep. Glad this is Spearbet. Is the spear bit like locked up? Berg, did you win? ah Well, first of all, are we doing this through the end of this championship? We’re doing it through the TOR Championship. It’s gotta be through the Tour Championship. Okay, if that’s the case, everyone’s got a chance still, technically. No one’s been mathematically eliminated. What’s, what are the sand dicks? So in… You could say, you could say tied for last. They each have one win. Hi, I’m John. But since Jordan was in Portugal for two days, technically his win percentage is slightly
higher. you Those are the BCS standings here. He ab-sanded. oh I got you. John, in case you’re wondering, your win percentage is 8.33, Jordan’s is 10. my God. Let’s bookmark that. Let’s clip that. Definitely throwing that one out. That’ll definitely be a clip, John. Woo! like 0.08 or something. So eight points something is eight extra turn. Great. Can me? that’s 8%. Yeah, I know. thought it was going be 0%. uh the non non it’s a it’s a non zero percent chance. Yeah. I’m trying to give you some live numbers here, Ian, since you’re very impressed with their
year over year results. My winning percentage year over year results. You’re good. You’re good. Yeah. Ian three wins, win percentage 25%. I got four win percentage 33%. Woo! Let’s go. Really happy for you guys. It’s true. neck-neck for the spear between me and Ian. John and Jordan need a win. pretty impressive actually. Thanks, man. And you know what? I have to give it up. Nick Dunlap. You all said it couldn’t be done. We did say that. You if it goes by dollars, you have it. Fair. Yeah, who has them? I shoot, that’s, It’s a third word. This this. shots at Ian right now. John has a win. week 12, Rocket Classic. The last time Ian has hit a spirit bat was back episode 9. Some are calling Ian the Colin Moore Cowher of this podcast. Don’t call it a comeback. Don’t call it a comeback. uh Chris Goddard of this podcast. So just you guys wait. Captain’s pick. You Golf Nerd. Yep, my account has had to been replenished once. So it wasn’t great. Yeah, my account can use a win for sure. My account could use not being the third mortgage in my life right now, okay? John, that’s too good. Too good, John. I will say though, just looking at it here, it seems our boy Hideki has been picked the
most and has won 2 out of 4 times of top 20. Oh yeah, that’s true. Sure is. Is he? Who did I pick? I took Jordan. Hedeki is in the field this week. Yes. third favorite or something. In case you’re wondering, he qualified for this event by winning the Masters, in case you
were wondering. Just that little tournament. Yeah. I think you’re into every tournament on God’s Earth if you’re like top 50 in the world. Ian, that’s pretty much like as long as you’re there, can play wherever you want. Okay. Yep. That’s if that’s why if Bryson wasn’t, yeah, that’s why if Bryson wasn’t on live right
now, he’d be in every tournament, but he’s not. So he won’t. Hey, those are his tits, Duff. Awkward. Come back Bryson. You goofy motherfucker, come on back. You crazy son of a bitch. Oh God. All right. Any final thoughts on anything? This is the week. This is it. This is it. This is the tribe week. Let’s all give up our collective spirit. and a heartbeat, I’d give up my sphere putt. go to the track except for except except for Ian Ian’s over here saying well I want to win
some money so we put up a speaker about it So Ian, you’re out, the three of us are in. I’m sick of living under the causeway that is the losing bets of this podcast here and I’m
done with it. It’s over this week. Hospitality. for the pod if we won one of these fucking things. Hey, have you put the numbers together on total picks? Like if we were to just choose all the people that we chose overall, what the picks would
be? You’re gonna need to explain this like I’m five. So we all get a tri bet and we all get a spear bet in player if we actually put the
percentages of them making their top 20s. Hmm, that’s what you’re saying. I see what you’re saying. Yeah, I haven’t done that. That’s too much. We’ll do it. We’ll do it. uh Send me the link again. Or is it on? Yeah. We’ll talk. We’ll talk. Yeah. Okay. well, this is it. 950 in the account come Sunday night. Yes. Yes. God get the juices flowing. More than Happy Gilmore 2 did. Yes, all on black, baby, all on black. Yes. Well then. Alright. Anyway, that does it for this week’s episode. Everyone enjoy the Windom and we’ll be back next week to talk about first event of the
FedEx Club Playoffs, FedEx St. Jude. Hell yeah.
