Hi redditors – long time reader of this thread (especially since I decided to build this) but I think this is my first primary post.
I just finished my build and wanted to share with you for a couple of reasons. First I’m proud of it and welcome comments or feedback.
More importantly I wanted to let all of you guys (or girls) thinking about doing one that it can by yourself! I do do not work in construction or even in a blue collar field where one would use their hands daily, but I completed 99% of this build myself.
Every part and accessory in this sim was selected and installed by me, including all electrical, networking, flooring, etc. I had a little bit of carpentry help to get the cuts right on the wall panels and to lift/secure heavy/cumbersome parts of the framing. But the overwhelming majority is all DIY, by a guy who has never built one.
This is a completely bespoke Trackman 4 sim build. I’ve owned the device since 2020 (covid over reaction purchase) so it took me a while to get around to a permanent build out. It is constructed in half a garage. The dimensions of the space are 24Lx10.8wx10h. Hitting screen is 4:3 aspect ratio with projection size of 10×7.5 (elite screens). Mat is fiberbuilt. Balance of turf is called shockturf. There is 1.5” meister x-thick foam under all turf. The idea was to make sure the turf and hitting area are flush/level. The screens are 55” avocor touch screens and they are running a windows gaming pc with the specs you would expect but nothing wild. Lighting (flicker free video lights) is all from Amazon and have experienced no issues or missed impact/shots due to insufficient light. I will say though that lighting is super important and often overlooked. Swing cameras are both with iPhones that are connected to network via Ethernet cables. Curtains and tracks are also from Amazon.
I’d be happy to share links to any parts or pieces if anyone is interested, or share some videos if that’s what you want to see.
I learned a lot from watching and reading stories in here and on YouTube. Thank you to all of you who responded to me when I asked questions.
Let me know what you think!
