2013 U.S. Open Film: “A Rose Blooms at Merion”
gerrant about approach the green the National Open
golf tournament at Marion in Ardmore Pennsylvania Ben Hogan drives and Lee Trevino meet in a playoff
for the United States Open title at the classic Marion Golf Club today in a tiny room here they
call the wicker shop a man has spent more than half his life as the caretaker of Marian’s most
sacred tradition insuring its excellence guarding its mystique and protecting its place among
the game’s most magical and historic sites but what a proud moment for David Graham
first Australian to win the open these are the Marian moments which seamlessly
blend for past to present carried on by the belief that what has passed is great but
that what lies ahead could be even better expect anything different unreal performance for rory mcilroy it’s because the United States Open this
is the greatest cop tournament in the world a record 9860 entries were received for
the 113th United States Open Championship at historic Marion Golf Club the Furman fast
conditions the USGA executive director Mike Davis was hoping for were washed away by more
than six inches of rain in the week leading up to the championship crews worked around the
clock to ensure that Marion would be ready for the start of play on Thursday morning Phil
Mickelson the runner-up in a record five US Opens already came to Marion a well-traveled
man he flew from Carlsbad to Philadelphia for a practice round on June 2nd went to Memphis where
he finished second at the st. Jude Classic who back up to Mary Anne early in open week then
returned to Carlsbad for his daughter’s eighth grade graduation before taking a red-eye back
into Philly for the start of the championship Thursday morning getting just a couple hours
sleep before his seven eleven starting time off the 11th hole Mickelson began the day with a
three-putt bogey but a birdie at the short par-3 13th got him back to even par and he faced this
long effort at the first to get into red figures nice after five straight pars Mickelson
had this 9-iron approach to the par-4 7th that setteth a birdie to give Mickelson
to lead by himself at 2-under then at the difficult par-3 9th a 5-iron to the
middle of the green left him an uphill left-to-right putt from 30 feet
you seize planet to hook for him his 3-under 67 was his lowest round
in a US Open since 1999 at Pinehurst also in Thursday’s morning wave was
England’s Justin Rhodes playing in the group behind Mickelson Rose opened his
round with this approach at the par-4 11th and that would set up a birdie to get into
red figures but a string of bogeys left rows at four over par and in danger of falling
out of touch were the leaders by the time he came to the six he faced this long birdie
putt to get his round back on track rose back to three over then at the 7th here at the
short par-4 Justin Rose has a chance for a birdie up the hill just a little bit
of turn to the left and he sneaks it in there so back-to-back birdies now for
Justin Rose he would sell the just 71 to stay in contention Webb Simpson didn’t start
his opening round until after five o’clock because of weather delays but the defending
champion took advantage of the soft conditions go he put his 5-wood at the long par-3 3rd to within
two feet for birdie then at the next Simpson had a tricky lie for his approach from 1:30 to got it
up against that car of the rough and of course the issue is trying to make good contact which
he apparently did very good Roger that set up another birdie due to darkness Simpson finished
his opening round that next morning and struggled making three bogeys including here at 17 he’d
finished the championship tied for 30 seconds Englishman Lee Westwood who had top-10 finishes
in three of the previous five US Opens began his quest for his first major championship title
with a downhill 20-foot birdie putt at the 5th another birdie at 10 improved into 3-under
before some bad luck on his third shot to the par-4 12th his shot struck the wicker basket
and ricocheted some 30 yards back off the front of the green the misfortune led to a double bogey
for Westwood who finished the day with an even par 70 with four victories on the PGA Tour
already in 2013 Tiger Woods once again came to Marion as the favorite however the world’s top
ranked player got off to a slow start missing the fairway at the first trick look at how lush
that rough is Johnny and then they’re going to grass along the faces of the bunkers let’s
go to the club with the right hand it’s gonna be okay nope not a good spot that’s gonna be
a very strange putt with that little brow that sticks out I’m not sure how close he can get
that might have hurt his wrist a bit he would make a bogey on the first but looked to get
it back with a ten-foot putt at the par-5 2nd missing the fairways at Marion make a
difficult course even more treacherous now +1 Tigers 5 would approach chase through
the grain leading to another bogey but more worrisome was an apparent injury to his left
wrist which left him wincing and grimacing in pain after the swing he then faced a long
putt for birdie at the par-4 6th pretty good Dhoni too one platinum birdie silly game this that birdie moved him back to one over he
was plus three when he once again missed the fairway this time at eleven and again
hitting from the rough resulted in more pain Woods would save par but finished his
round on Friday morning with a three over 73 Luke Donald whose precise game seemed
well-suited for Marian was also looking for his first major breakthrough he faced a
big breaking putt for birdie to open his round just creeping it left to right perfectly nice
punch Wow that’s got a big swing to make that after a birdie at 11 Donald’s stuck his approach
at the 12th to within three feet this putt to tie Mickelson at 3-under with darkness setting
in he tried to make it three straight at the short 13 you would expect this close this is
right in luke’s wheelhouse here that led to his fifth birdie Thursday but he struggled the
next morning and finished with an opening round 68 so Mickelson had a one-stroke lead over
Donald Mathew Goggin Nicolas Cole sart’s and Russell Knox only three others were able to
shoot level par but after 18 holes the field was tightly bunched after the first round ended
Friday morning the players got back to work in round 2 and starting at 11 Woods partiz first
two holes then selected a pitching wedge at 13 that’s well done it set up a birdie to get him
back to two over the 14-time major winner gave back strokes at 14 and 18 but looked to take
advantage of the PAR 5s on the outward nine his third at the second spinning back to
her than inches setting up a tap-in birdie then at the fourth from 159 gouging one
out from a buried lie in the left rough and over the creek guarding the front of the green
and settling within 10 feet of the hole an amazing recovery looking to position himself for a weekend
charge this was to move back to two over and he pulls within five of Mickelson on a difficult day
for scoring at the 7th Woods faced a delicate chip with a clump of grass behind his ball this is
one of those things he just literally want to just drink it a couple of feet hope it runs out
he made bogey there and finished even on the day plus three after 36 after stumbling a bit to
finish his opening round Luke Donald looked to get back on track with this birdie putt from 25 feet
at the 12th and that tied Mickelson at 3-under after missing the green long at the par-3 13th
Donald faced this chip running back down the hill at the US Open you and Donald
surged to 4-under bogeys at the 15th and second dropped him back to
2-under but this for iron on the 203 yard third was right on the mark very
high and starts right at the flagstick to within six feet setting up this
putt to regain a share of the lead just one of seven birdies on the whole on
Friday and Donald’s third of the round but a bogey at the par-5 4th and this wayward Drive
at the 5th had Donald coming back to the field it finds the hazard on the left leading to a
bogey then at the next back-to-back bogeys at four and five and this is to avoid another and
dropped back to even par his par putt catches the lip and spins out another lost shot his
third in a row and then this one for par at seven and four consecutive bogeys won five out
of six but Donald looked to get one back at the night Luke Donald trying to bring it back for
iron down the hill 219 yards pretty good drop down to the green now that’s a good one anything
past the hole is very fast that’s a beauty won the best shots we’ve seen all day that could
be a nice way to finish his fifth birdie on Marion’s challenging par threes over the first two
rounds a second round 72 left him at even par for the championship playing just his second US Open
three-time collegiate all-american Billy Horschel made the biggest move Friday over at the 10th
second shot for Billy Horschel at the short par-4 and a dandy this now for birdie no one’s going to say while we’re young
to Billy Horschel almost putting while he was still stepping into it a birdie that gets him to even par he continued his
roll with this birdie putt at 11 how about this Billy Horschel leads the PGA
Tour and birdies made only just made another one there 3-under par now is round not a bogey
on his card impressive play loose to 1-under after a good Drive at the lengthy closing hall
Horschel from 236 but famous 18th were the Ben Hogan posed remains branded on everybody’s mind
it’s everywhere at this championship on the brochures on the program everywhere almost mostly
feels mrs. green in regulation 27% of hit it what a shot by Porsche Horschel for birdie at 18 what an incredible
this is where the 40 Horschel hit all 18 greens in regulation the first person to do that in
a US Open round since the stat was formally tracked starting in 1989 his round of 67
moved him to 1-under at the halfway point 46 year-old Steve Stricker came to Marion
in search of his first career major after opening with a bogey he had a 10-footer
to get back to even a great birdie for for Steve Stricker at the second ahead at
13 with a pitching wedge from 123 yards he spins it back to 15 feet below the hole and
the Wisconsin native looked to roll in another one for the US Open a bogey at 15 would drop him
back to even for the championship but his second round 69 had him in a tie for third after
36 hole after three late birdies to salvage a 71 Thursday Justin Rose looked to stay hot on
Friday from 25 feet at the first Justin rose to even par within two and another long birdie bid
at the par-5 2nd Justin Rose straight up the hill very nice Justin Rose now in red figures a bogey
at six dropped him to even but an approach to ten feet at the 8th left rows this right-to-left
swinger to move back to 1-under a birdie 4 rows in the two-time European Ryder cover would post
69 for an even par 140 total through the first 36 Phil Mickelson looking to build on his opening 67
teed off late in the afternoon on Friday after he pulled his drive into the rough at the first he
had this putt to save harm so just a second bogey the championship and they both come at the
opening holes of the first and second rounds after a string of PARs Mickelson
was dialed in on the 8th from 1:45 just misses an eagle and looking to tidy up this
short birdie lead but it burns the lip Mickelson can’t believe it and he remains at 2-under after
missing the green with his approach at the short 10th he faced a short bunker shot over a steep
lip no problem for Mickelson with an inches to save his par a bogey at 12 dropped him back to
1-under and then he had this to save par at 13 he would give away another one
at the little par 3 finally at the home hole a good drive left
him to 40 from the left fairway oh that’s underneath the hole that’s good very good from 20 feet up the hill to close this
round with a birdie and get back into red figures a 72 for Mickelson and he would share the 36-hole
lead with Billy Horschel Donald Stricker and Rose were the only others who managed to stay even
par Tiger Woods was hoping to use moving day to better position himself for a run at a
fourth open title and he wasted no time he had this left to right putt for birdie at the
first fit perfect speed was that big a break woods back to two over and seem poised to threaten
the lead but that would be his only birdie of the day and after a couple of bogeys more trouble
at the sixth Tigers third can hit a lofted Club another bogey there pushed him to five over
and into freefall mode this is Tiger for a day ending par yes chances for this us open
our toast a round that showed promise with an opening birdie ended with seven bogeys in a
76 his highest round as a professional in the US Open runner-up the Congressional in 2011
Australia’s Jason Day made a charge midway through his third round when he was at +4 over
to 10 this is Jason Day for birdie cat gets him to 3 over and along hitting young Aussie he’s
right in the middle of this this is Jason Day lining up for what would add to the birdie
list at 13 pretty straight is just three three more pars brought him to the famed quarry at Marion the 254 yard par-3
17th and day with a two iron and what a shot by day was sweet a 3-footer
left to get back to one over and just wanna five birdies there Saturday after a bogey
on the last day card on a 68 and was very much in the hunt starting the day it even
Justin Rose opened with three pars and had this left-to-right birdie putt from the
fringe at four just let gravity do the rest birdie four rows we’ve got two men under
par he had tumbled back to +1 but nearly reached the green at the 280 yard par-4 10th
Justin Rose played a beautiful tee shot to the edge of the green this for Eagle I
thought that was in Justin Rose makes birdie at 10 yeah gets him back to even
par to back and rose like many others on Saturday took advantage of the 13th plane
at just 98 yards this birdie from 10 feet but after missing the green at 17 to the
right he faced this chip from the rough and he caught it fat and would go on
to bogey each of the last two holes to finish it one over to 11 Steve Stricker
who started the day at even par continued his steady play with pars at the first eight
holes but he found trouble at the par-3 9th that one is headed right for Steve Stricker and
in the Hazzard he would double bogey to drop to +2 but that was the only blemish on his scorecard
in the third round a birdie putt at the 12th a third-round 70 and he was even for
the championship Donald who struggled late Friday opened his third round with three
pars now Luke Donald coming across for birdie such a beautiful stroke that birdie got
him into a three-way tie for the lead a bogey at 6:00 dropped him
back to even but Donald had this ten footer at eight to regain a
share he’s planned for it to go left and then his second at the 10th from 73 yards to set up another birdie opportunity Luke Donald out a tie for the lead gets him to wonder six parson a bogey at
17 brought Donald to the finishing hole at 1-under but his approach found a difficult
lie in the right rough this is third that would lead to a double bogey 6 3 shots lost at
the final two holes and Donald would end the day at +1 Charl Schwartzel the 2011 Masters
champ started the day at +1 bogey at the 2nd dropped into two over but a great tee shot at
the 3rd set up this five footer then gets it down to just the second birdie today recorded
here at the dining car that 5 scorching takes him back to +1 you look for another one at the
next Schwartzel for birdie at this par-5 4th he’s coming off a birdie at the 3rd and another
beauty there for Schwartzel that got him into a six-way tie for second a terrific approach at 7
put him in position for another birdie Schwartzel with a chance to get to 1-under par share the lead
this is the putt that doesn’t move much well yes a beautiful drive by Schwartzel at 10
– within 15 yards of the green left this pitch back up the hill so this
for his fourth birdie of the round so charge 4-cyl picks up a birdie at 10
and goes into a one-shot lead d2 would struggle on the closing holes bogey
at 17 and this to save par at the last bogey bogey finish would drop Schwartzel
back to even for the championship Billy Horschel who started the day as
co-leader at 1-under was hoping to sustain his momentum from his near-perfect
second round going for the par-5 2nd in two boy that is way left he would get relief from the
scoreboard but still faced a challenging third and from a tough lie into the bunker he played
his fort to the fringe and had this to save par how about that and Horschel ‘he’s great
scramble kept him in red numbers he dropped three strokes before this birdie
try at 11 for shal 403 needs one badly and he’s dad that’s his first birdie of the day
Johnny moves him to +1 so just three back over 13 Horschel looking for another one just outside
right edge to get back to even the confident young Horschel was fired up his third round 72
kept him in contention for his first major mater Mahan already a five-time winner on tour was also
looking for his first he was even on the round through the first 11 when he had this long birdie
putt at 12 before here would be good swing would be back that’s amazing mastery after the unlikely
birdie at 12 may had kept it going at the 13 beside your attack main mystery to us over the Marian
know he would tap in to move to 1-under and over to the quarry and totally blind shut
this was an 8-iron and misses on a nice line oh and it’s good oh it’s pretty
good this for his fourth birdie on the back nine and he makes the tie
for the lead at 2-under a familiar pattern though he closed with two bogeys
giving him a second straight round of 69 he’ll Mickelson’s nerves were tested
early this to save par at the third and he drops back to even he hoped to
regain the lost stroke at the par-5 4th but this eight-footer misses low
as well a bogey at the 5th dropped Mickelson to one over and then he had
this downhill 10-footer at six to save par and where does he make that look
easy that is clutch right there so Mickelson stays to back three
straight pars brought Mickelson to the 10th looking for his first
birdie of the day to move back to even then looking to back it up at 11 from 10 feet little downhill little movement to the left figures one he part 12 and 13 but
left himself this tricky chip over the mound from the closely mon
area just off the green at 14 there was a spin you thought he made
it then for birdie up the hill at 15 how does that not go in Mickelson
and disbelief as his putt grazes the edge he remains at 1-under another
opportunity at 16 this is very horrible whispers third birdie on the
back nine against no bogeys Oh stayed right there watch it did not move
Oh somehow it stays out leaving Mickelson talking to himself then at 17 where most
players were pulling hybrids and fairway woods he’s got four and out two in 54
you gotta be kidding me for as long as there he’s got in the bag John well maybe
it’s more like a three might just say four he’s hit it sell it right at the center of the
green he’s hit it solid in the nest this truckload right off that’s why you could not miss it to
the left of the green and that’s the best shot he said all day long while many of his competitors
were giving back strokes in the closing holes Mickelson had a chance to come away with a rare
birdie little bit slow this putt the first half as the soul the fifth birdie all day at 17 and the crowd loves it then at 18 Mickelson for par to
close his day with a back nine 31 Wow just short an even-par 70 though Matt
Mickelson was the only player under par through 54 holes at Marion and for the first time
in his career he would go to sleep on Saturday night as the sole leader in the US Open mayhem
Schwartzel and Stricker however were just one stroke back with three others 2 off the lead
already a record 5 time runner-up at the US Open Mickelson was hoping to celebrate his 43rd
birthday on Sunday with a national championship title but the early fireworks belong to Houston
native Sean Stephanie the 31 year old came to the 213 yard par-3 17th at 20 over par but his
weekend got a lot better when this 4-iron took a nice bounce off the slope kicked onto the green
and trickled all the way toward the wicker basket and into the hole for an ace the first
ever in a US Open at Marian and just the 43rd and the championships history it was a
disappointing week for Tiger Woods who came to Mary in a pursuit of his fourth the US Open
title the long birdie putt at 15 one of the few highlights for him yes it just catches the
bottom lip you know if he’d been doing that all week John he might be in the middle
of this thing a final round 74 left him at 13 over for the championship finishing
in 32nd place Charl Schwartzel who started just a stroke behind Mickelson looking
to get things going at the 1st from 147 this one is just right of the flag a shot that’s the best shall we’ve seen with
the best leave that’s the key Binda convert from six feet Schwartzel for birdie to time
Mickelson behind him should make this button tip over and ease back into read numbers plane with Schwartzel steve stricker was
looking to become the oldest champion in US Open history but his tee shot at the
second was wide to the right across the road and out-of-bounds an uncharacteristic miss
for the normally steady and accurate Stricker and after getting his next drive and play
it would get worse his fourth at the second Wow this is a shank that was a dead shake
triple bogey on the hole and Stricker was never a factor from there he finished
tied for eighth Phil Mickelson looking to get his round off to a good
start a long birdie try at one Mickelson stays at 1-under Luke Donald who started
the day two back forced to hit driver at the uphill 266 yard par-3 3rd which was playing into
the wind trying to hit a cut he double-crossed his head and way left left in the green bad stuff
over there his wayward tee shot hit a volunteer who had received treatment and be ok but Donald
would never recover if again a streak where he made five bogeys and a double over a stretch of
seven holes his outward 943 dropped him out of contention but Donald would still manage a
tie for eight his best finish in a US Open justin rose hoping to become the first
english champion since Tony Jacklin in 1970 faced this putt for par at the 3rd
but a bogey would drop him 2+2 Mickelson after reaching the greenside bunker in two
at the par-5 2nd from an awkward stance again exhibiting his exceptional touch around the green what a birdie this would
be Roger tremendous eminence he’s done that all week he’s hit brilliant
recovery shots great iron shots put him down so far so a disappointing par at the second
for Mickelson making a big Sunday charge was Jason Dufner who began the final round at
+8 Jason Dufner making a bit of a move up the board a good round going currently at +5 3
under on the day this is a portion of the golf course where you can get back at Marion a bit
and there’s the way you play the second foul Jason Dufner for that 30 of the 12 for the championship and well doctor
was surging one of the leaders was struggling to stay in contention
Schwartzel for par at the third and he falls back to even then
at the fourth another shortcut a third straight bogie at five was
followed by this approach at six wow that is flared way to the right underneath
the grandstand and it would lead to a double bogey six and when this par putt at seven
slid by on the right Schwartzel had dropped six strokes in his last five holes once tied
for the lead he would settle for a 78 and a 14th place finish after his bogey at three rows at
the par-5 4th and two and had this putt for Eagle it would roll by but he would make birdie to
move back to +1 Mickelson missed the green at the 3rd leaving him this pitch from the
tall grass from just outside the bunker shot failed to reach the upper level
of the green it trickled some 45 feet away from the hole he would three putt
for double bogey dropping him to +1 but while the leaders were struggling Dufner
remained hot for his fifth birdie of the day at 13 she didn’t did he made that you
say mr. rice so Jason Dufner that’s 5-under he said how did that go in Mickelson back at
for trying to reach the par-5 and to from 258 one of the best shots of the day – within 20 feet
back at the 5th look how far out Justin Rose is playing this par attempt a bogey he would slide
back to 2 over Billy Horschel making a fashion statement with his pants trying to do the
same with his game the bogeys on three of his first five holes for birdie at 6 and Billy
Horschel now back in it at +3 and there’s that celebration we’re used to seeing he struggled to
a 40 on the front nine but this approach at 12 spinning to within a foot cinema tap-in
birdie he would shoot a 74 and tied for fourth in just a second major championship
appearance Mickelson back at four for Eagle to move him into a tie for the
lead with nahan at even par ahead at fifteen doctor was hoping to put more
pressure on the leaders but this drive hooks across Gulf House Road out of bounds and leads
to a triple bogey seven the only miscue of his round at the next he had this to get one stroke
back it was his sixth birdie of the day a 67 for Dufner earns him his second consecutive court
place finish in the US Open at the 6th Rose continued his up-and-down start to the final round
with this long putter big swinger across the grain Mickelson in trouble back at
five had this to save bogey Bogey’s already today this birthday wish is
not coming true at the moment at the 8th and see if Jason Day can get it to plus one not
too much breaker that’s very makable naked seven Justin Rose that goes downhill initially
that uphill at the end should move to the right so justin rose to even far now tied
for the lead at the 6th Mickelson looking to rebound from his double
bogey from 210 yards into the wind is one of the best we’ve seen today
here these do he hasn’t made a fight and when those kind of opportunities present
themselves at a US Open you’ve got to take advantage Mickelson stays at plus-2
mayhem also at six had a tricky par putt bogie dropped into +1 and
out of a share of the lead and Justin Rose at 8 to remain the sole leader yeah I didn’t have to go a little magic the first Parnas card since the second back at the short par-4 10th
Jason Day looking for another birdie how about right so that ties Jason gay at the top at even par he then missed the fairway
at 11 his second from the right rough go that is and now playing is forth from the drop zone
got here just 77 yards on our that was chunky early carries the hazard leaving another
difficult shot day with his fifth shot now watch drops one back at the night Mickelson was
taking dead aim at the tuck hole location this is a par whole this time very Hall then from 18 feet down the
hill to pull within a shop just will not go in today just
over the edge over the edge but the leaders were also coming back to Mickelson rose at 11 after powering his
first putt six feet by the hole this now foot bar leaves it short three foot moegi he’s retired despite the two double bogeys
Mickelson was still just one behind playing a second from the right rough attempt 76
yards left to right on a very very coarse nothing’s perfect and nothing’s gone Wow well
if he’s gonna win a US Open he might as well do it in typical Mickelson like fashion that’s his
son Ellison he’s got two doubles on his card and a suddenly reenergized Mickelson leapfrog day
may Han and rose to reclaim the lead as the Wars echoed throughout Marian’s back nine day had
this birdie putt to draw even with Mickelson at 13 for no reason back at 12 Rose
took dead aim from the center of the fairway good chance for
birdie here those side boards we’re just in the rolls and now it’s missing but Rose wasn’t finished there after a sand
wedge – 20 feet at 13 this for the outright lead a 5-bit birdie of the day for Justin Rose back at 12 where the rain now falling Mickelson looking to get back into
red numbers and Thai roads but downhiller misses just
low and he remains one back coming off back-to-back birdies
from the greenside bunker at 14 but a shot sports right he would
two-putt from there to drop back to even then looking to take advantage
back at the short par 3:13 but he flies the green and his shot settles
into some thick rough a critical miss at the hole that played easiest all week
in terms of scoring average the second shot wasn’t much better leaving
him a lengthy putt just a safe bori 13 Jason Day bogeyed the 14
then had this one for par at 17 watch putt by day this day of
+2 Rosenau the solo leader after Mickelson’s miscue at 13 up the hill
for birdie at 16 Justin Rose has this low area and steeply up hilt believe
this short we give it a good rap a good that would leave him at up comebacker to save par like that it was a good pot but he misread it yeah
three-way tie now at the top but at 15 Mickelson had no direct line to the hole with his putter
which forced him to take a high-risk gamble you know I really think this is the right choice
it’s an extremely difficult play certainly at this point in the competition but I really believe
it’s his only chance to get it close he just can’t roll the ball at the at the flag so he’s going
to try to loft it over the edge of that bunker you may hoagie and fell out of the lead
and trailed rose by one may hen was also struggling at fifteen and needed this
to save bogey a double drops him back to +3 Dave found the greenside bunker at
18 looking for an up-and-down to post +2 you now talk about the par putt of his life which
it could turn out to be Jason day to get in at +2 a chance for a playoff and now I would say
no chance a great effort by de earned him his second runner-up finish in the last
three US Open Rose after a par at 17 still leading by one over Mickelson
the most important tee shot of his a beautiful dry in the center of the fairway Mickelson trailing by 1 from
159 out of the left rough at 16 just steps away from the plaque that marks where
Ben Hogan hit his iconic one iron in the final round of the 1950 US Open stood Justin Rhodes with
a four iron in his hand closing in on his boat starting at the center and drawing
she’s got the distance into kitchen is a good job that was drilled that’s
a good leave right there good deal after his beautiful approach at 16
Mickelson with a look from 10 feet birdie putt that lose ever so slightly
to the right agonizing ly close again now at 17 where Mickelson made
birdie on Saturday then were froze in good shape at 18 it would appear
the Mickelson’s gonna have to pick the 30 either here or at 18 which is
unlikely especially at the last because mr. Ridge by three feet it would have won
you know moved right down close to the hole and asked moving away but it’s a very fine shot rose
ahead at 18 from the back fringe using a 3-wood is going to be a prison today on Sunday at
Marian around 70 what a great part that was that was under pressure that drive the second
and the third were fantastic five birdies for these eight powers for Justin Rose what
did it happens and you just might speculate listen to Bertie one of the last two Cheers running out of chances to close the
gap Mickelson up and over the mound at 17 so he is gonna need a brief 18 Benna birdie 3 in the last two rounds first
things first get it in the fairway Roger this is going to miss quite a bit left Wow you got a break there from

Really need to bring the US Open back to Merion! What a great track!
When will we see another US Open at this epic course?
Man I felt bad for Phil. He missed so many putts. He really should have won this tournament
32:30. Phil’s 4iron into the Par 3. A beauty !!
That Lord of the Rings background music tho
shot +6 on tgc19 … should have been +3
Thanks for finally getting to these USGA. I missed this tourney and always hoped to someday get a feel for it.
Mickelson is still kicking himself about this one I bet…. Missed so many putts on the final day. Should have been able to win this one… The only major he hasn't one is the US open. On another note, Merion is an absolutely beautiful golf course. Would love to see this venue again soon. Philadelphia is a highly underrated golf area. Incredible courses all around there.
wicker basket? wtf!
Seems odd seeing Steve Williams caddying for Adam Scott in the same group as Tiger
My dad took me to this and i was 13 at the time and wow! It was such an amazing experience i hope the open comes back to merion so i can return the favor and take my dad.
phil shoulda won
They really need to bring the US Open back to Merion – such an amazing golf course!!
I get it. Tiger tiger tiger.
But still. Hunter Mahan was in the final group on Sunday and in contention to win until the last 5-6 holes. I’m 30 min into the video and his name hasn’t even been mentioned. 🙄
33:21 Why is he running??? Bad etiquette
The dashing entrance nomenclaturally waste because speedboat intermittently remember aboard a erect dipstick. burly, clear fireplace
What a course and Rosey really got me in the feels with what he said. Respectful and total class
Justin rose is iconic for British golfers
How about making more of these without the commentator…….
Once you consciously hear the music in the background it becomes pretty annoying.
