Padraig Harrington is coming in hot to the 2025 Rogers Charity Classic.
Just 10 days after becoming only the fifth player in history to win both editions of the Open — the British Open and the Senior British Open — the golf legend tries to keep his success rolling in Calgary at the PGA Tour Champions event, Aug. 11-17.
His return marks a third visit to the high-profile event hosted by Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club.
“Calgary is very well known amongst the players as one of the better weeks of the year, so I definitely wanted to come back,” said Harrington, who headlined the 2024 World Golf Hall of Fame induction class last June.
“This event has raised great money over the years, and the community comes out and supports it, which is always so important for an event. The golf course is very pleasant, the greens are excellent, and my game has been in great shape, so I am looking forward to the week.”
Harrington joined an exclusive club of Darren Clarke, Tom Watson, Gary Player and Bob Charles as the only men to win both editions of the Open, after scoring his third major championship title on the PGA Tour Champions in July at the ISPS Handa Senior Open. He also won his second Senior US Open in June this year. His first capture of the Senior US Open came in 2022.
Not only was Harrington the first player from Ireland to win the Claret Jug in 60 years (2007), but he was also the first European to successfully defend his British Open title in nearly a century the following summer (2008). The six-time Ryder Cup European team member added his third major title to his resume when he also won the 2008 PGA Championship which brought him to third in the Official World Golf Rankings.
An 11-time winner on the PGA Tour Champions, the Irishman brings 41 professional victories worldwide with him to the Rogers Charity Classic, where his best finish was tied for third in 2022.
“This is a huge win for our tournament, golf fans in Alberta and most importantly the Calgary community,” said Rogers Charity Classic executive director Sean Van Kesteren. “Padraig brings legendary status to our event. He is back to playing some of the best golf of his career and is currently sitting second in the Charles Schwab Cup standings with his two major wins this year.
“We are so grateful to have him in our field next week.”
A star-studded field is once again taking shape for the 13th edition of Canada’s lone stop on the PGA TOUR Champions.
Harrington becomes the third World Golf Hall of Famer in the field of 78 of the game’s greats, who will battle it out for the champion’s white Stetson cowboy hat, joining Ernie Els and Vijay Singh.
Not only the Most Interesting Man in Golf but also the top man on the senior swing, Miguel Angel Jimenéz, is also back at Canyon Meadows.
The Rogers Charity Classic also previously announced six other major winners on a birdie-seeking mission when they arrive in Calgary including: Ernie Els (2012, 2002 British Open and 1997, 1994 U.S. Open); Clarke (2011 British Open), David Duval (2001 British Open), three-time major titleholder, Vijay Singh (2000 Masters, 2004 and 1998 PGA Championship) and David Toms (2001 PGA Championship). They are joined by Team Rogers athlete, Canada’s Mike Weir (2003 Masters). Stephen Ames is the only other Canadian who has earned a spot to play in this year’s edition of the annual tournament.
