We put the Krank Formula Fire Mini Driver to the test and compared it head-to-head against the biggest names in golf: the TaylorMade R7 Mini Driver, Callaway Elyte Mini, and Titleist GT280 Mini Driver.

We hit all four in our golf simulator, broke down the numbers, and crowned a winner at the end. Can Krank’s bold claims stand up to the legacy brands? Is a mini driver actually worth bagging in 2025?

You guys have been begging us to get in the new crank mini driver. Well, we finally got one here in this. People have been begging. Begging. So, we got the Crank Mini driver. Take a look at that bad boy. It’s the Formula Fire. Very similar to the other driver. It’s the 11 12°. First, we’re going to review it. Tell you what it’s all about. Then, we’re going to put it against one shot challenge against the GT, against the Tailor Made, and against the Cal. Stop. Stop it. Before we get hitting this bad boy, let’s talk aesthetics. Obviously, you have that crank has it on all their all their woods. Those like what would you call those? Almost like spoilers. Visually, I’m I’m very pleased with it. Yeah, it only comes in 115. So, that’s the big difference between the other brands is most of the other brands have 115 135. Does have that bulge roll. It fits Callaway adapters, which is interesting. But, I’m thinking most people are going to be wanting that off the tea. I don’t see an 11 and 1/2er off the deck. Except that’s why we got Tim here. Someone with a lot of speed. Do I have to swing like Bryson and grunt like him? No, don’t do that. A little cuy. That was healely down in the heel. Talk to me about feel. It felt actually very soft, dude. It felt very soft. I’m curious how tight the dispersion is on it. Feels good, though. Feels super good, dude. It feels very soft. It’s a little heavier. That bulge and roll should help with dispersion a little bit. Help keep things a little straighter. Oh. Oh my gosh. For right side, dude. That was not good. I hit that. I hit that up here. You can see the mark. Before we get into it, how do you think it compares to some of the other minis that we’ve hit? It’s not my favorite, but it’s also not my least favorite. There was a couple mini drivers I hit and by the first shot I knew. Last shot for me then we’ll get Tim in here. Let me just visual visualize a shot. Just blocked it out. But 155 ball speed. Where are we at with getting Tim some non avalanche hats that ain’t going to happen. Not saying we have to get rid of the avalanche hats. He’s just big hockey guy. I’m a very big hockey guy. Like Happy Gilmore hockey guy. I think this club in particular will really suit a guy like Tim with his club head speed. All right, Trev Tech, talk to me a little bit. What do we know about this club? I know that it only comes in 11 12°ree. Has a lot of bulge and roll. It has those agitators. Has the C. No, me technology in it. Talk weights. It’s got the two weights. Yeah. Oh, yeah. I like the sound. Has a nice sound. That was incredibly soft. Isn’t it soft, dude? It almost feels like you can’t feel it come off the club face. It’s buttery. It is. to feel like softer than their driver. Yeah, cuz I didn’t like their driver particularly. Yeah, I left it open. Yeah, just pushed it a little bit. That’s really really weird. Step off this one. Y see a T- shot. Execute a shot. Let’s see it. Let’s see it when you really dial in. We know you can hit it a mile. Yeah, I’m not seeing a lot of drop off here from like Tim’s driver on ball speed. No, this 166. Not a whole lot. That was Healey. Still in play though. That’s better than my miss with it. So you you can wear your watch when you swing, huh? It doesn’t bother you. When I’m swinging like this? No. Playing? I definitely couldn’t. But also, I go through stints where I don’t wear a glove either. So there is that. Oh yeah, you tried to hit a draw on that one. That was kind of a don’t go right. Yeah. Give me one off the deck. Yeah. Do one. See, I think some this club could work really well off the deck for a guy like Tim because he doesn’t need any help with height. That looks really, really flat. This is the biggest thing I think for many drivers. This is the biggest drop off between the brands is being able to hit it off the deck. Nope. Okay. That almost hit the wall behind the screen. I’ve never seen that before. One more. The thing is is it with that 11, what was it? 11 and 1/2. That’s a tight lie. Do you hit your fairways off the deck pretty good? Uh 3wood I can I fight with, but it’s a little bit of a hook, but not heightwise. So, this is definitely different. Yeah. No, just can’t hit them today. New shirts coming soon. Glad I’m at 11. And a half is brutal to try to get off the deck. Yeah. So, Trevor, walk me through your mini driver, your expectations. We’ve we talked a little bit about in our other mini driver videos, but in order for a mini driver to work in most bags, what does it need to do? For me, for my game, I need it to to be a 3-wood replacement. Yeah. And I think that’s most people cuz I hit my driver pretty well. um better than I ever have in a long time. So, my driver ain’t going anywhere. I’m not really going to hit a mini off the T- box too much. Certainly not as a driver replacement. For me, it has to be a I have to be able to hit it off the deck in order for me to even consider it. I I’m right there with you. And my favorite of the year is the Elite. Maybe the GT280. Yeah, you are struggle. That’s a driver off the deck. That’s the exact ball flight if I ever try and go actual DoD. That’s not benefiting me cut low cut off the deck. It’s like a penetrating cut that I can hit with a a I could hit that same distance with uh sevenwood except I can have a much better ball flight. So why would I do why would I get this club? I think they’re so much popular for the to tour guys because that one was better. It’s so they’re they’re so dialed in with their distance that it is a really good alternative off the tee for them on some tighter more controlled fairways where they just need more control. No, you got to stop. 800 RPMs of spin on that. I think you hit I think you hit the big ball first. One shot. Everyone knows the rules. Are you going one shot? [Applause] Oh my god. Okay. Can I start with my favorite that? Can I start with my favorite? Sure. I guess you’re just taking over this video on what you’re doing. You saw it in the in our actual review. The GT was my favorite by far, but now No, I prefer the shaft. I thought you like the Denali. No, I think I like this one. This made the bag for a little bit. It does exactly what we just said. It’s more of like that 3-wood flight and feel with extra distance. So, for me, it actually did what in my head a mini driver should do. And you can hit it off the deck. Yeah. Well, as well as I can hit a threewood off the deck. Tate GT280. Go. Okay. This game is just a distance game. That’s the game we’re playing. Okay. 287. You want me just to keep rolling? Go. Okay. What’s next? Uh, Callaway. Okay. Tate Callaway. My handwriting is awesome. Oh, that’s going to be nice. High toe. Yeah, Callaway don’t care though. High toe, no spin. Yeah, a high toe actually works better for me. 304. Okay, so your favorite is already gone. Now we’re going R seven. What got eliminated? Your TG. What the heck is a TG? The TGT T80. The Tate GT280. Hold on. We got the TR7 now. R seven Q. If you were just reading these, would you even know what these what this means? No. No, you’re talking stocks. I think you’re day trading. Yeah. Okay. Go ahead. Um, out of just a curb appeal, this is the one I would want to play. Yes. Most attractive by far. Yeah. Nope. That’s not it. I don’t know. That might run forever, though. Oh, nope. 297. Callaway was still farther, huh? Do I pull the crank back in now? Crank my stank. Nope. 304 is the number to beat. No pressure. 304. Yeah. Nope. That one spun. Do you spin? Hold on. Nope. Callaway is the winner. Huh? I hate it. That actually irritates me. Tate, you know what? You hate Callaway, but a lot of their stuff performs the best for you. It’s funny how that works. So, in our first mini driver review, the Callaway was the best reviewing a one shot. Everyone knows the rules challenge. Okay, Tim’s turn. Oh, both your initials are T. Okay, we’re going to go Tim. What do you got in your hand, Tim? I’ll do the Callaway first. You got the Callaway Elite T6 97. One shot challenge. 2 43. Oh, low. Wow, that sounded like a bullet. Yeah, it’s going to go a mile. That’s got some fast speed. So, both of you are over 300 yards with the Callaway. Uh, Tim’s probably going to be over 300 with all of them, so just get ready to write a three. Okay, what’s next, Tim? We’ll go with the crank to see. Did I spell crank right or is it C A R E N K? No, you spelled it right. Crank is um stank but with a KR instead of an ST. Okay. Okay. No. Drop kick. While that’s going to work out great. Wow. Which one is that? The crank. That’s the crank. It is 11 and 12°. We’ll try the 47. We’ll try the R seven next. Cowboys a goner. Oh, that sounded sweet. Be sweet, baby. Dude, that’s a good shot. You could just tell by the back swing. You You were already saying, “Oh, before I even made ball, you just knew you liked it.” I do agree with you. The R seven looks better ball flight though. 340. Looks really good. There was so much I liked about that shot, but we’re not going to. The rule is which one goes the furthest. Now this GT280 high draw. High draw. It’s not going to do it. High draw. It might. It might do it. Nope. Coming in too steep. Another good shot though. 333. What’s his other one? 347. Oh, nope. Really? The R seven. Huh. So, the Callaway was the worst for Tim. And the crank was The crank was cranky. Oh, that one still came out. I thought the Tailor Made had it for sure. No. Wow. All right. One shot. Everyone knows the rules. You know, there’s no better way to test clubs than by one shot and one shot only. It answers and solves all of your problems. Give me some prices here, Tate. Okay. So, we talk prices. Okay, the Titalist and the Crank are both coming in at $500. Then the Callaway is the cheapest at $450. Okay, keep going. Keep numbering me. Tailor Made is coming in right in the middle around 480. What is that? A dude. Lefties. Am I right, Tim? Yeah, it’s a pen. Thank god. I almost did use the Sharpie, though. price I don’t think is an issue here. I think if you’re in this price range, like if you’re going to spend 450 on a mini, what’s another 50 bucks? Can I ask an unnecessary club? Let me ask you a question. Go. Is it 3 years ago now the burner came out? Yeah. Three seasons ago. So, three seasons ago, the burner came out and at that point in time it was the only Mini on the market. Uh-huh. Now, minis are kind of taking over, right? Yeah. So now every brand is coming out with a Mini or in the works on a Mini.xon has a Mini driver on tour that they’re working on supposedly is going to hit the market. Y um PXG has their Mini driver. Okay. Um I’m I’m assuming Mizuno’s got one out there at least on the tour. They got something coming. So now at this point they must be selling well that every single brand is throwing it. But do you think when you look at a titleless GT Mini driver at $500 that you’re Are you writing down everything I’m saying? Yeah. I’m just seeing if we could sort of um sort of a mind shut type thing kind of kind of gets going and maybe come up with an epiphany here. There’s just the four of us in here. Why do you want your eyes shut? No. What’s the movie called? A beautiful mind. Never seen it. You’re thinking Zach Alfanakis in The Hangover. No, that’s what I’m thinking. That’s Rainman. I’m I’m kind of getting some flow here and I’m I’m just Keep going. What were you saying? I think I’m lost. Honestly, I looked at your writing and it took me off my own track. So, are they serving or selling well based on the more that comes to market, the more that are going to sell because there’s more available. You keep making them more available. This is like the Lorax right now. Done. He’s the onler. There you go. Now, we’ve solved the riddle when it comes to minis. Should you or should you not play one? Based on all of this data here, the answer is no. [Music] Wow. That honestly, you lost me. Can the crank driver perform? Yes. Is it the best based on what shot challenge? No. Could it be the best? It was the best. Get out there and try it. Oh my gosh, it was the best for Tim. I couldn’t even read. It’s not It’s not just you. It’s not your video. I I mean, I hate the Callaway. I think I lost myself here. Yeah, I I mean, I’m lost and I was speaking. Okay, we’ll see you guys next

  1. 11.5 is dumb for a mini driver. Krank also has awful resale value. I'd rather go get a used Callaway/TM mini for less than the new Krank AND be way better off if I decide to sell it.

  2. I think you should change it to the three shot challenge. Too many variables with just one shot. The smaller the sample set, the less useful the data is.

  3. I got the Krank mini and its unreal how solid it is, I like it more than the normal driver they released

  4. Idea for a video that I feel like is a MUST DO: Blind test, lake balls vs brand new. See if there really is a difference between recovered lake balls and brand new balls in a blind test on the sim.

  5. I have seen your golf games and you guys have 0 credibility reviewing products store owners or not!

  6. Krank has a 100$ discount, making it 400$ for the Mini Driver incl. shaft or 300$ for just the heas…..

  7. 8:20 This right here is Embers Golf reviews in a nutshell. You guys have gear that performs better for you, but you don't like the way it looks or sounds, so you don't use it. I'm sure you would agree. I still love the content.

  8. 2 things
1- what kind of tees do you all use?
2- can you do a video on srixon balls vs bridgestone tiger balls?

  9. Love the content and look forward to more. Mini driver is a great club for some golfers like myself that struggle with full size drivers. I personally found with my Paradym Ai Smoke Ti 340 Mini Driver I have been more consistant hitting fairways off the tee and less right push issues over a full size driver with only a loss of 20 yards carry (270 down to 250). I can honestly see where the major brands are getting on the mini train as it does appeal to golfers like myself.

I do honestly believe that the one shot challenge is not beneficial as maybe think about 3 shots per club and keep the best of 3, at least you have a better sample size for comparrision between clubs.

  10. This mini driver is 🔥🔥🔥!!!
No pun intended. I own it and can hit this further than my driver and with a good lie off the deck.

  11. I hit the Cleveland Hywood 3+, off the tee. I’m 72 though. That club is more consistent than the driver (Tour Edge C721). Enjoyed this piece. Thanks

  12. Some one get Tim a real hockey hat? That hat is ugly, but I wouldn't expect anything else from an Avs fan. Much love from the State of Hockey. The Krank Mini Driver is interesting.

  13. The launch motor software can have the parameters adjusted with different settings. They should have it set for the altitude that their shop is in for fitting customers but if they are doing YouTube videos they need to set it closer to 500-1000ft elevation to be closer to their viewing audience's golf conditions. It is making me want to unsubscribe from their channel because they are just being lazy and it makes the yardage they state similar to click bait. Maybe they are being paid by the manufacturers to leave it that way so their products look better to anyone not realizing the elevation differences. On a different note mini driver is a marketing scam instead of calling the clubs closer to what they actually are and that is a 2 wood. Most golfers don't know that 2 woods existed back in the day, meaning 40+ years ago.
