Lee Trevino Shows You How To Control The Clubface

You remember what I told you about the jackass and the wagon? Yeah. This is the jackass. Yeah. This is the wagon. The jackass pulls the wagon. Okay. If the jackass slows down and goes this way, the wagon runs over its ass. I’m going to tell you, he’s a dead man. And and you’re dead. You understand? So, what you want to do with this shot here is you get here and then and then you move it around this way. See? And that’s what closes uh see that’s what closes the blade. The greatest teaching advice I can give you is I tell people I said listen how many club faces do you have here? And they said we got the club face there. I said no you don’t. I said you have three. They said what do you mean? I said and you got three and that’s something important. That’s right. And I said when you put your hands on the club I said look at this. That’s another one. That’s a club face there and it’s same. It’s lined up with that one. Absolutely. I says, “When you put this hand on, that’s a club face, and it’s lined up with the other two.” So, do you think you think if these two club faces go all over the place that that one’s going to stay straight or you dump some? I said, you know, if you were going if you were going over that little bush or around that bush, you see, I mean, see that left hand came over just a little bit. It’ll tell you. See, the ball will tell you what you did. And then you can make and make make and then you make an adjustment. See the the ball will tell you uh now see see I held that one. You see that? Saw that. You see the back of the left hand stays square. This is your body moved moved great on that one too. This is all this is all there is to uh Uhhuh. What’s your do do you love to to feel like the body is the engine of your of your golf swing? The body has to be the engine. Always has been for you, right? Yeah. You can’t play dead if the hands are Well, here’s here’s how I play golf, but it it hurts. If it hurts, it hurts now. It hurts now. Is I I I dance. Why? Right. Right. I went this way. You’re in the greatest feet of all time. There it is. I can do that every time, but it my nails hurt, my hair, everything hurts. But damn, if I lose about 30 lbs, I might be able to go back to that. But I can do that. Oh, that’s that’s that’s a killer there. I got goosebumps. That was so good. God damn Nicholas shake when he saw that. Did you see that? Yeah. Yes. See, I felt that. Huh? I felt that right there. Yeah. See, what’s up? I see See, the reason I danced is because I started the club, the ball forward. Yeah. See that, right? And then I would dance this way and then hold it. Now put I didn’t hold that one good enough. But it hurts. I couldn’t get the ball high. You can’t play now. You got it. You can’t play here anymore. The way these courses are designed, you got to go up there. That’s why I have this. I did this when I was helps you get it up higher. Well, see this this one here. If if if I want to get soft, you see now I can’t do that with a 7, but I can I eat your lunch with this one? Here. See? Yes. 80 yard shot. Yeah. Yeah. I I’ll eat you lunch with this thing here. For an old man, this is the best. Uh th this is kind of the the best uh hybrid. Uh this is the best hybrid they made for for it’s not for distance, but it’s easy to hit. This is the u the FTIZ. It was the first one Callaway made. You know, they go and get fitted where in a room with a machine. I can have you hitting it 400 yards in there. I’ll turn that Hey, I’ll turn that goddamn thing up and you you you want to go to bed with me. Just tweak that trackman a little. Oh, are you crazy? No. I told That’s why I told I said, “No, when you test something, you tell them you want to go outside.” Yeah. You want to go outside and you want to hit balls, you want to watch it. For sure. Yeah. Forget Trackman and all that I can tell. Yeah. You can tell with your eyes. Yeah. So, if you were going to hit like like a right to left and a left to right shot. Well, if I was going to hit a If I was going to hit a left to right, I would change the right hand. I would go there. If you want to hit a little face. Yeah. Just a tiny one. Wow. Yeah. I change. This is the steering wheel. See? So, you right hand. Yeah. No, no, no. You weaken it right. No, no. I went this way cuz it’ll want to go back. See? Watch. Watch. It’s all about the right It’s all about the right forearm. Believe it or not for Okay, watch. See, you’re going to go out there and use all my But that’s okay. Well, you That’s the legacy. See See when they put the hand down. Y Look where the forearm’s pointing. You see it pointing up. Mhm. Right. It’s when you hit this ball, it’s going to be there. Look at the club face. Y Okay. So, we want you to get this guy so he can see two knuckles. Okay. And when he turns it there, now where’s the forearm going? It’s going left of the ball, isn’t it? Correct. All right. So, it wants to go this way now. That’s where you get the faith. It’ll want to go that way. See, it’s the right forearm. So, now if you if you do the opposite, they’re going to draw the opposite. You do it you do it just like you do it. No, no. You do it opposite. You keep the grip, but you get you get very active. Okay. Uhhuh. See? So, you still put it on top. Okay. There. Uh-huh. And then you really turn it because now you can only turn it that much more. If you put a right hand there to hook a golf ball, you can go from there to there. How the hell you’re going to judge it? But if you put this hand here, it’s opposite here. Now you know in your subconscious mind, you know that you’re going to have to really roll this baby. Well, you can only roll it that much more. Can’t roll it much. That’s where you hit the soft draw. See? See any if you want to get the ball up in the air with a soft draw, you put it up here. And then you get active with it. It’s all about It’s all about the st. This is the steering wheel. Yes. Okay. I I told ladies the other day, I told the ladies at Greenbars and I put them in a cart. Every all the ladies I teach was like this. She’d get there and she’d go she’d go and she and there’s the ball. Exactly what she was doing. I had two of them. I was teaching them. I don’t teach much, but I was teaching them. Excuse me. So, I made her sit in the cart. I said, “Sit in the damn cart.” And she says, “What?” I said, “Go sit in the cart.” So, she gets in the cart. I said, “Now put your hands on the stair.” She said, “Exactly right.” I said, “Now go left at the light.” Thank you. That’s all you need to know. And she says, “What?” I said, “That’s all you need to know.” I said, “Now take practice, right?” I said, “Now turn left.” She said, first shot she hit, it went like this. She started chasing me around the driving range. She was good-looking, too. She almost I almost let her catch him. Now, pitch and run. Pitch and run can be hit the same way. You play it farther back. See, you’re still open. We’re having a problem. But now the ball’s off your right foot. Yes, sir. Okay. Now, what happens is when you close it, see, uh, you make it a seven. That’s okay. In my day, the wedges spin on it, too. all the time. Every every every wedge that you’ll ever hit, every wedge that you hit, regardless of of of what you want to do, is you don’t want you never want any of this because this wedge has got so much bounce on it. You know what? Even if you start feeding it with your hand, you’re either going to take bounce off or what. That’s why I play with a lot of bounce on a wedge is simply because I’m a holder. But all wedge shots are hit with the face open and then you close the face with the body. See, you just hold on to it and close it with the body. That’s beautiful. Send the check to Claudia. Okay. Yeah. That’s like this shot here. See this shot here? Everybody see when you when you learn when you learn to hit shots when you learn to hit shots by moving in other words you don’t change anything to hit this shot. If you want to draw this you you play it forward and you hit the ball and it’ll draw for you. If you want to fade this ball, believe it or not, you move it back by your right foot. You see? And then you just swing. Really? Oh, no. You just you move the ball. The swing never changes. Mo most of the time people would say the opposite. They’ say, “Move it back to hit a draw. Move it forward to hit a face.” You do the opposite. Oh, I mean, see that that’s the problem. See, the guys that say that are not on tour, you understand? The guys that say that are not on tour. They’re at a strip mall, you know, in one of those cages with a camera, you know. Yeah, exactly. I told you. I told you when you want to draw the ball, you weaken the right hand. You know, everybody’s everybody’s taught, oh, you go this way and you go this way to draw. No, no, no. All you do is weaken the right hand to draw the ball. That way, when you weaken it, see that? Then uh then you can go really hard at it and then you’ll hit a very soft you’ll hit a very soft draw. All these draws will be will be very soft. You see? See, you’ll never overdraw it because the hand’s already there and it can only go that much more. Y fading it. It’s a very easy thing to do to fade it is that you play it back. He’s the change. The swing never changes. Yeah. You’re not going to change the swing. You walk a certain way, you talk a certain way, you swing a certain way. You’re stuck with this bastard. You’re a never going to get rid of it. In order to beat up on people, you you going to have to learn. You’re going to have to move. I goddamn. I look like I’m riding a Honda out there. Yeah. That’s it. You remember I was talking about at the dinner about the manufacturers and what they’re doing to clubs and people can’t hit them. Y Well, let me tell you something. I did this for a living, right? And uh that’s an 18 degree 5wood cuz I can’t get a 3-wood in the air. Yeah. Everybody that’s got a 3wood here, they can’t get it in the air. And it’s because of the way they’re manufactured. They’re too deep. Yeah. And they’re too big. The heads because there’s no weight below center of gravity. Also, when you put the weight in front of a club, it goes low. Yeah. The weight’s got to be back here. See, they don’t make clubs for amateurs. They don’t make them.

  1. He looks and moves incredible for his age. Mind is perfect too, golf does this to you.

  2. I love watching him teach golf. He was self taught and really understands how the body works without all the theory, just pure experience.

  3. There are so many people online these days giving video lessons that I've never heard of. Why would I listen to any of them? Jack Nicklaus said that the two greatest shot makers he ever saw were Ben Hogan and Lee Trevino. I take his word for it. Trevino is a master, everything he shows here makes complete sense to me. I've taken his lessons from another video and applied them to my short game and it's helped me tremendously! Lee is the man!

  4. Absolutely love Mr.Trevino you sir are a living legend to some of us great knowledge being given out here folks

  5. What an absolute legend, and no rock star super star ⭐ I’m the muts nuts mentally…. I genuinely think this here from Trevino is gold dust! He built his game around club face control, an unbelievable understanding of how the hands should work, why and how. One of the best ball strikers of all time….. and he is a legend in Happy Gilmore lmao! Golfer turned actor….. to finish this guy who is talking with Mr Trevino very good also…. I see Lees swing as the least, least hand dominant, but like Hogan and other greats all have and spoke of great hands and they are the first contact point with the club and the importance ❤

  6. Damn it man, I so badly want to hang out with Lee Trevino for at least a week!
LEGEND, ICON and 100% BEAUTIFUL HUMAN BEING!

  7. Trevino LOVES golf – you can feel it every time he speaks. What a gem of a man. Legend –
