Facility provides space for lessons, practice, and revenue growth following two years of planning and fundraising

After two years of planning, there is a new service available at the Castor Golf Course.

On July 28, the Castor Golf Course, along with several sponsors, hosted a small ceremony and photo opportunity to unveil the facility’s new driving range, which is located on the south side of the golf course grounds.

Golf club president Todd Pawsey says the project was made possible through the support of multiple community sponsors.

“It’s like the bunny hill lessons prep skiers for the black diamond runs,” said Pawsey, in a media release. He added that the range gives newcomers a chance to try the sport before heading onto the main course, while also offering a dedicated space for lessons and a new revenue stream for the club.

Planning for the project began in 2023; however, between fundraising and shipping issues, it wasn’t until July 2025 that the project was completed.

The Castor Driving Range is the only one of its kind within a 45-minute drive, the other being at  Pheasantback Golf and Country Club, near Stettler.

Castor Golf Course has had 4,800 balls, hitting mats, and a ball picker, all supplied from grants and sponsors. Golfers can purchase either a large or small basket of balls from the clubhouse.
