Donald Trump tees off at his Scottish golf course amid anti-Trump demonstrations

US President Donald Trump has begun his trip to Scotland with a round of golf at the Turbury course he owns. During his visit, he’s expected to meet UK Prime Minister Kier Stalmer and the president of the EU’s European Commission, Ursula Von. But demonstrators have gathered around the country to protest the president’s visit. Around this president, even the golf sounds different. Are you enjoying the Scottish hospitality? There were Sky News questions. Sure. Mr. Trump, can you escape the Jeffrey Epstein crisis? Maybe that’s why we heard this. What’s that song? I don’t know. It’s very famous. It’s from a musical. Yeah. Memories. Music boomed out from the convoy of golf carts, drowning out the surrounding sound. And though it’s hard to hear, this presidential playlist included Simon and Garfuncle’s Bridge over troubled water. What else? The back half of that metaphor played out at anti-Trump demonstrations in Edinburgh and Aberdine. Protesters troubled. I wanted to be here today and I wanted to bring the pipes because they’re a symbol of Scotland and I want to use this symbol of Scotland to say that he’s not welcome here. We should not be opening Scotland or the UK to somebody with his background. He’s an abhorrent human being with absolutely no saving graces. The president came here to mix business with pleasure. Beyond the golf course lies a Sunday meeting with Ursula Vanderion. President of the European Commission. Amidst anticipation in Europe of a breakthrough in US trade talks, Donald Trump rates the chances as even with the uh European Union. I think we have a good 50/50 chance. This is a stretch of calm air coastline with international politics at its heart. It’s hosting a controversial president. We traveled up from Liverpool last night, but he’s not without supporters. He’s not a politician. He’s not a career politician. He’s pretty much the opposite of that. And he says what he thinks. Donald Trump cares. He wants to he makes wants to make America great. He cares about his own people and that’s what people want. Great man. Yeah. Why do you say that? Uh saving the world. Donald Trump will have much to discuss with the UK Prime Minister Sir when he arrives here at Turbury. Trade will be on the agenda. So too, world affairs like Russia, Ukraine, and Gaza. On Donald Trump’s Scottish break, they are the difficult politics of downtime.
