Detry and Højgaard vs Knapp and Clanton: Ultimate Barrel Challenge

Ahead of the 2025 Genesis Scottish Open, Thomas Detry and Rasmus Højgaard took on Jake Knapp and Luke Clanton in the Buffalo Trace Barrel Challenge — a unique test of precision and strategy.

Each player had a limited number of attempts to hit golf balls into empty Buffalo Trace barrels placed at varying distances. The scoring system rewarded risk: hitting longer-distance barrels earned more points, but there were fewer of them to aim for. Players had to decide whether to play it safe for consistent points or take a chance on the more rewarding, long-range targets.

Here we have four sets of barrels. Hit a barrel and score a point for every yard. And if the ball stays in the barrel, it’s double points. We have two Europeans and two Americans. So, we’re going to have a little match. Got the whiskey on the rocks waiting for us. You know, let’s do 10 bowl each. And the 10th bowl is worth double. This is the Buffalo Trace barrel challenge.
