CONWAY, S.C. (WMBF) – Conway golf cart drivers have to follow a few new rules, as city council leaders are moving forward with new regulations in response to the state’s recent change in law.
The most recent update from the state allowed cities and towns to create their own golf cart laws while enforcing the state’s as well.
Conway city leaders passed the first of two votes needed on its proposed golf cart ordinance, which allowed golf carts to be on certain roads between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m.
The second vote was passed on Monday and allows drivers to be on primary highways where the speed limit is 35 or below.
The highways include Main Street, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 16 avenues.
The roads that drivers can not be on are Mill Pond Road, El Bethel Road, and Cultra Road, despite the speed limit.
Councilman William Goldfinch said that it will not be a huge change from before, and the new rules open up more opportunities.
Goldfinch added that the speed limit matches the lifestyle of many in the city.
