Adam Spencson sets tournament record with opening round 60 at 3M open PGA Tour highlights. Imagine setting a tournament record with a jaw-dropping 60 in the opening round. Adam Spencson did just that, securing a two-stroke lead over Sam Stevens and Thorburn Olison at the 3M Open. But here’s where it gets controversial. Senson’s incredible performance included a 48 foot eagle putt on the final hole, marking the lowest round in the tournament’s seven-year history and tying the TPC Twin Cities course record set by Paul Goyos in 2017. Senson didn’t just stop at the Eagle putt. He also nailed nine birdies without a single drop shot. His remarkable feet matched the course record and showcased his putting brow. I had an outstanding range session today. My putting was phenomenal. I made numerous breakers. It was arguably the best putting round of my career, Fenson remarked, highlighting his mere 25 putts, which included a near 40ft birdie on the 11th and a 34-footer on the fourth. His career best 60 is only second to Jake Knap’s 59 at the Cognizant Classic earlier this season. But what about the other contenders? Stevens, for instance, could have joined the 59 club if not for a costly mistake on the 18th. opting for a three iron. His shot landed in the water, leading to his only bogey and a 62, still his best round on tour. “I have a significant gap between my three iron and 3-wood. I chose the three iron, hoping to cover the water, but it didn’t pan out. I was aiming for a 59, so I took the risk,” Stevens explained. Meanwhile, players like Fowler and Guillo, nestled in the 60th to 80th range in the FedEx Cup standing, are eyeing a strong showing to secure their spots in the upcoming playoffs. Fowler currently at number 63 and Guillo at number 71 know that exceptional golf can turn the tide. At the end of the day, good golf solves a lot of problems, Fal stated confidently. Other notable performances include Patrick Rogers and Gary Woodland who each shot 67 while Keith Mitchell and Cam Davis followed with 68 and 71 respectively. Defending champion Jonathan Vegas nanned a 6’8 and how Dong Lee, fresh from a tied fourth finish at the open championship, carded a one under 70. So, what do you think? Was Spenson’s record-breaking round a fluke or a sign of things to come? Do you believe Stevens made the right call in the A game? Share your thoughts in the comments.
