Sam Stevens spoke to the media following his runner-up finish at the 3M Open, where he was asked:
– How do you reflect on your day?
– Did you learn anything about yourself this week being in contention?
– How difficult was it to stay focused and not look at the scoreboard?
Yeah, I’m not too disappointed. I would have liked to had a chance to go for it on 18. Um that’s a pretty tough driving hole and I I hit a pretty good drive. Just kind of overcut it just a little bit. Um but yeah, overall I’m very pleased. Um I needed a a good finish um here in the last couple weeks to kind of move solidly inside the top 50, which is a you know a big deal for next year and I would think that I’m in a good spot for that now. Um, and now I’m in the top 30, so in the FedEx Cup. So, I’m happy about that. And, you know, get to see it up again next week and give it another crack. So, that’s good. You know, I kind of mentioned I had a pretty good attitude today. I got off to a bit of a slow start. And there’s been a couple times where I’ve done that when I’ve been in or around contention, let it bother me a little bit. But, um, I think I did a really good job of just kind of being okay with it. And I mentioned it earlier in the week, there’s so many birdies out here, you can kind of get on a run at any time. And I did that kind of on the back nine today. So, just kind of stay patient, stay positive even when I didn’t have my best stuff through six or seven holes today was a step in the right direction for me. And hopefully uh hopefully I can keep doing that. Like I said, uh Kurt got off to such a good start, you know, um looking at the scoreboard is normally something that, you know, you might get nervous if you’re tied for the lead or one shot back, but with Kurt, you know, shooting 29 on the front nine, it’s like, well, I’m six or seven back, whatever it was at the time. I can just, you know, play as freely and as aggressively as I want to. So, um, really didn’t feel that, uh, many nerves on the back nine, which is good. Normally, I get very nervous. Um, so had a lot of peace out there today. And I think, uh, again, that has a lot to do with just the attitude that I had and kind of the perspective I try to keep on the golf course. Um, but yeah, looking at the leaderboards is something I I generally don’t do, but today I did because I was so far back
