I’ve struggled with my driver for years. Big slices, zero confidence and destroyed scorecards! So… l decided to pick up the TaylorMade R7 Mini Driver. It’s compact, it looks fantastic and it’s meant to perform to the highest standards!

In this video, I test the R7 Mini-Driver on both parkland and links golf courses to work out my first impressions. There will be a follow up review in a month but at the moment… here are my thoughts!

For years, I’ve battled with my driver. I’ve hooked it. I’ve mostly sliced it, and I feared it. It’s gotten so bad that the last 2 or 3 months, I’ve only used a two iron off the tea. I’ve chopped and chained between drivers. I’ve had lessons and nothing works. Something has to change. After some research, I’ve managed to get my hands on the R seven mini driver. The reason I like hitting two iron off the tea so much is because it’s a shorter shaft, the ball flight is lower and consistent, and I’m standing closer to the ball. Before getting a more in-depth review on Carnush Golf Links, let’s head to a Parkland course where a carry distance is very important. The big thing I noticed on the Parkland courses was when I was hitting inconsistently, they were still going pretty far. You’ll see a couple of strikes here which I hit the top of the face. They go pretty high, but they still go pretty far. And also, the most important thing is they are going straight. That’s how you do it. For the average golfer just like me, this is what you want. You want a medium ball flight. You want it going dead straight. And you want it to be forgiving. So, I’m very excited for this. Let’s head to Carnista Golf Links for a more indepth review with a nostalgic nod to the old R seven driver. You can customize this R seven mini driver any way you want. I’ve gone for the 11 12° and I’ve put the four weights in a way that’s going to be draw biased. I’ve also increased the loft slightly, which means that it closes the face apparently and also looks very nice over the ball. Before we move on, please take the time right now to leave a like. It takes two seconds and it helps massively. I also just want to say throughout this review, I hit it poorly. I hit it well at times with different outcomes, but it isn’t really till the end, the last couple of holes where I start to really, really get it going. I sort of switched up my stance and sort of switched the settings a little bit and started hitting an absolute mile. Okay, so it’s extremely blustery today. Is at least a three club wind off the left. What I want out of this driver is a lower flight. I want a bit more punchy and I want it to go straight. Perfect. This was actually a really good drive from here into the wind off the left. That went 259. And for me, I’m not a big hitter. My two iron would usually go maybe just back 10 15 yards. So although it went a bit high off the face, it’s still gone pretty far, which I’m very happy with. again into the wind off the left. I’m hoping for a straight one. If this can just keep going straight, it’s definitely staying in the bag. I know the two iron is really reliable for me, but I just need extra distance. And on parkland courses, especially if I’m playing opens or playing with my friends or whatever, I have to have a higher ball flight than two iron cuz it doesn’t run on parkland. So hopefully this can do a bit of both carry and distance. Okay, let’s go. Just gone dead straight. Okay, it’s going to be fine. The wind didn’t do much. Came out really, really low. Yeah, that’s me. So, that was a very strange strike off the toe and it’s gone 234. So, not the best in the world. I hit the UPS slope here as well. A very, very weird shot. Quite low. Didn’t land on the fairway and it’s still gone 230. The fairway is right there. Only maybe 10 yards. So, I just missed the fairway and I smashed it straight off the toe again. Wind off the left. It’s getting pretty strong now. I don’t know if you can hear it on the mic. Really strong. Aiming left. Trying to bring it round. Yeah, it’s really nice. Yeah, that’s the one. Beautiful. In the past, this bunker hasn’t even been in the question. So, that’s gone 260 for me. Usually, I’m there. This bunker isn’t even I don’t even zap it cuz it’s nowhere. I’m never anywhere near here, especially with the two iron. So, that would if I hit the fairway there, it would have been so close to this green. That’s crazy. Really nice strike. Okay, 60. Let’s see if we can get this near the green. Yeah, pretty good. Okay, we’re hitting straight into the fan now. To be honest, I just want this to go straight. So, I’m just going to focus on middle of the face. It’s a nice swing. Try and get down there. That’s so good. Oh, that’s beautiful. came out really low, nice and controlled. And the sound was amazing, too. Right in the middle of this fairway. Really, really nice. That was a really nice control swing. I didn’t hit it very hard at all. And it’s gone 2, three, four. Again, into the wind. I’m more than happy with that. Basically hitting a two-wood. Much more control, smaller face. I love the way it looks over the ball and right in the middle of the fairway. So, if I can keep hitting those nice controlled shots, again, on a still day, it’s probably a two or three club wind. On a still day, it’s going to go 25560. Wind is behind, this is going an absolute mile. So, yeah, really good. I want to copy and paste that swing back there. That swing was really, really nice. Wasn’t trying to hit it hard, just nice and easy, focusing on the middle of the face. And as you can see, it’s a very, very good drive. That drive was absolutely perfect. I think I found something kind of like in terms of my stance and how I’m swinging it and how how I’m presenting the ball. That felt really really good. A little draw and it’s gone an absolute mile. We’re like 30 yards short of the screen, which is ridiculous. So, let’s try and get this close and then let’s see if we can do the same thing on the next tea. The same sort of setup and see what happens. Let’s do that again. Bit of a more open stance and just allowing myself to come through the ball a bit better. That’s it. That is the one. Dead straight. Checking the rangefinder. I’ve gone 246 with this drive, which for me again is a long way. The wind off the left as well. It went dead straight. I’m just off the fairway. Absolutely love it. I think just having that security gives you way more confidence. I hate driver so much. All I can see with driver is going right. Whereas this thing, the way it presents, the way it’s hitting, the nice low ball flight, even when you hit a poor shot, isn’t going that badly. And I’ve hit it a bit off the toe there. It felt really, really nice. And it’s only just off the fairway. And it’s also gone a mile. It’s really high. Okay, that’s a nice shot. Actually, that was extremely high on the face. So, it’ll be really interesting to see how far it’s actually gone. After skying that ball, it has gone 200 y still, which to me is quite impressive. that went straight up in the air. So, it’s one of those things I’ve not actually swung the club very well today, but I’ve been in some really good positions and I’ve also not been in much trouble to be honest. So, forgiveness wise and confidence-wise, when I’m over the ball, I know when I have a bad swing, it’s not actually going to be too bad. I think my poor swing just now is skying it. So, I think I’m maybe teeing it too high or I’m coming down too steep and hitting top of the club. So, I need to kind of work on that and see what’s going on. Um, but it’s very forgiving. It looks absolutely beautiful. And when you do hit it well, it goes an absolute mile. Okay, here we go. Wind off the right. Wow. Holy. That has gone so far. Want to see if I can do that again. Oh my god. Okay, that is I’m going to zap that to see how far this has gone, but those two are absolutely crushed. I teed it lower that time. Much much lower. Kind of like more to the back of my stance to be honest. And that was so so good. Right, let’s go and zap those. See how far they went. There’s one here and there’s one like maybe 20 yards in front and it has gone so so far. Let’s have a look at this. Oh my god, it’s gone 260. This one here. So that one there has gone about 280 285 which is ridiculous. It came out really really hot, really low and dead straight. So on Lynx golf it’s going to go a mile and on part land it must have carried maybe just about there. So it’s incredible. So yeah, really impressed. And now that I’ve got that setting going, kind of the back of the stance and just clearing my hips, it is fantastic. So good. Thank you so much for watching. If you enjoy this video, please make sure you leave a like. I’m going to review the club again in about a month’s time. See how I’m getting on. So, make sure you subscribe so you don’t miss that one. Cheers.

  1. Happy to see you crush that mini driver brother. I got the Burner 13 degree last year and it is a game changer. Keep us posted on how much your handicap goes down in a month of playing with it in the bag.
