Today guys, we have a fitting of a different kind. Today we are testing out the brand new Tacomao Sky Forger 0002 wedges because there’s a big change with these wedges. We’ll get to that in this video with our mid handicapper. So Dave, welcome. How are you doing? Very good. Yourself? I’m I’m fine, thank you. Big question. Have you ever had an actual wedge fitting? No. Well, today guys, we are going to be doing a blind wedge fitting. You can see we’ve got some golf balls set out here. We’re going to go around this green and see which wedge would suit Dave. So, blind test. First of all, Dave, we’re going to go to this flag on the right hand side there. So, normally in your golf bag, you have a 52 and a 56. I do. So, from here, what club would you be choosing? Would it be your hybrid? Maybe your highly lofted hybrid. Yeah, I’ve got that gap hybrid and I’d maybe try and hit that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And if not, would you go 52? I would go 52 to there cuz your hybrid is 47, I believe, isn’t it? I think so. Yeah. Okay. Well, I’m going to pick a wedge that I think is right for that. So, we’re going to go. So, you’re not going to tell me what the loft is or I’m not going to tell you the loft. I’m not going to tell you what kind of bounce, what kind of grind it has got. I’ll try not to look then, Chris. So, Dave likes to look in the bag. He’s not exactly good at this game, I don’t think. But, Right. First one up. Okay. So, straight down. Big changes with the Tacomao wedges are full face grooves. Yeah. Something that you’re you’re not opposed to. You like No. I’ve always fancied the look of them, but I’ve never had one that has been fullfaced. No. Very interesting. Right. We’re going to hit two shots with this club to that flag there. And then I’m going to switch club over and see. Do you find one easier to hit? Do you find one harder to hit? Does it look different? So, a lot of people when you’re picking wedges, you probably just go in there and go, “Well, I’ve always had a 52, 56, and a 60.” So, that’s exactly what I’m going to have. Well, I I do have a 60. I just never use it because you used to lose it a little bit when I used a 60 because obviously I couldn’t. Yeah. And a lot of people overuse a 60. They think it’s a club to go to straight away here. But you need James Robinson for one. Yeah. You need to know what kind of golf course you’re playing. What kind of surface are you playing off? Is it Lynx golf? Is it Parkland? Is it a mixture of both? I mean, that’s a good first shot with that club, Dave. He managed to get going backwards. We’ll get that on the intro. He’s that good with his wedges. He knocks them backwards. Right. Let’s see then right straight away there. Bit of a drop kick. Hit the big ball first, didn’t I? Hit the big ball first. We have been working on hitting that. So there’s a lot of options now from Tacomao. Before we know they just had the 60°, 56, 52, and 48, but now we have 46 all the way through to 60 in 2° increments. That was a nice strike, Dave, there. And that is pretty good. Just past the flag. So where was that struck on that one there? Um, let’s have a look. Right there. Yes. A little bit towy. So that’s still not bad. Strike. Right. We’ll pop that one down without you looking Dave. I’ve seen you. I didn’t mean He did. I like. Right. I’ll walk away. I’m going to mix this up now and we’re going to go into this one right here. So Dave, I’ll give you that one. Thank you. Looks down behind the golf ball. Any different do you think? Is it more loft? Less loft? Same loft? Trick question there. Dave, I think it’s same. Same. Okay. again behind the golf ball. Does it sit different at all to you? Um, if anything, I’d say that the leading edge looks slightly higher. Okay, interesting there. So, let’s see how this one reacts with the ground. Does it feel easier to work through the turf? That’s the big question here. Well, it’s pretty much exactly the first shot that I hit with the other one, Chris. Well, it’s consistent, Dave. Let’s go one more here. Uh, that’s why you see Did you hand slip? Did it trying to trick me? Putting plastic on the damn things. Eh, all these excuses. A classic mid- handicapper. Right, let’s see how this goes. That’s a nice motion. Okay. So, certainly floated up a lot nicer there. That’s down. That felt a much better shot than the other one if I’m honest. Yeah. Interaction with the turf. How did it feel? Um, it felt nice and it’s it’s pretty much come off the center. That right. It’s quite unusual for me. We’ve got two left. I’m going to put you back in this one that we started with. Do you still feel like it sits differently? Yes. Yeah. Sits a little bit closer to the ground. Maybe it does. Yeah. Okay. So, let’s hit this one now and let’s see which one comes out on top. So, nice flights landed good there on the green running down there again. Interaction with the turf. How did it feel? Felt decent. But it does help if you kind of hit it off the middle, don’t it? Yeah, the elusive middle. Right, let’s switch over again, Dave. So, we’re back to the second one now. And this is where we’re just trying to see. Obviously, we’ve had two bad, we’ve had two good, but how does it react when you go obviously back to back with these clubs? Interesting. thought that that was me. Yeah. How which one feels easier to control? This feels easier to hit. Okay. Works better through the turf. It It doesn’t seem to dig as much. It seems smoother as it goes through it. Right. Very interesting there. So Dave has got the versatile ground. So the V grind with 12 degrees of bounce, which does have a little bit more forgiveness in it. does give him the ability to open it up and if he does have a different angle of attack then it could potentially obviously go through the turf a little bit better. So it is a 52 again Dave I would say that obviously that is a good club for you. We know in the bag we do have obviously a 50°ree we do have a 48 50s might be something that we play with at the end of this video but let’s move into that shot there. So, I’m guessing we’re going to go up to there to the closest flag. I would say that you would select your 56 out of your bag. I would. Yeah. I’d try and just land it on the green. Hopefully, it’d release. Okay. Right. Let’s go and hit a few from there. So, I’m going to tell you that we are going to go with a 56, but which 56 I’ve selected again, you you’re not so sure because I’ll just check it for cellophane this time. You check it, Dave, because this could be an option. But I also think with going potentially to a 52, we could have a 60° 60 degree gap even and maybe bring in one of these at the bottom of the bag. There’s a more of a specialist club. Let’s see how this 56 performs first. So nice flight there, Dave. Little bit of spin. Yeah, I mean I know it’s that’s just gone down the hill, but it it was pretty good for distance and I thought it checked a little bit as well. Yeah. Okay, let’s see now another shot. So guys, this is an X100 tour video. So obviously we do use Tacoma, we do use seed on the channel. So this is where we are testing out obviously how these clubs can perform. Price-wise looking at £100 per wedge. So certainly affordable in comparison. It’s all down to performance. That’s two fantastic shots, Dave. So I’m really happy with that. I don’t know what the bounces are the um No, I’m going to take that one off you again. Flightwise, you happy with that flight? Would you like it to be higher? Would you like it to be lower? No, I’m happy with it. I like And it again, it seemed to check a little bit. Yeah, little bit check new groove. So performing well. Again, Dave is a 13 handicap golfer. So certainly still being able to produce a little bit of spin from a good strike straight away. Dave, it feels more open. I don’t know why. I don’t know. And as I say again, that feel and I don’t know if it’s the V or the F, but that feels as though the leading edge is slightly further off the the floor. Okay. Interesting. There we go. Right, let’s hit two with this now. Bit low. A bit lower. Plenty of spin, Dave, on that. So, let’s go one more. So, straight away there performing as well, but quite low. If there’s a bunker there, you certainly it’ be a little bit more of a knee knocker if it is launching at that height, wouldn’t it? Which again is not potentially all down to the golf club, but as we know, obviously a different grind can affect the launch. Right, that felt better with I I just didn’t quite accelerate to it properly, but it felt nice in the air. Right. So, let’s stick with that one then. Again, let’s hit that one. Out of the two so far, which one are you favoring towards? The first one. First one. Yeah. Okay. Very interesting. Again, bit of a drop kick, Chris. Yeah. So, let’s switch over now. Again, like we mentioned, unfortunately Dave not putting on his usual short game display today, but this is where that club could interact differently with the turf. And this is the point of the blind test. So if you do go for a wedge fitting, we know you all want to go, okay, what have we got? Oh, that one looks nice. Or, oh, that’s a versatile grind, so I’ll go with that one because I don’t want that one because that’s for not as good golfers. So try to stay away from that. A good fit is going to just get you a club in your hand that will potentially one might work perfect and one might be the polar opposite. Nice. So I think we’ve got a clear winner, but I think I’ve also tricked you a little bit. So I mixed it up there. So that is also the versatile grind. So again, obviously we can open it up. We do have a little bit more versatility in that toe and heel. And it’s interesting because I’ve actually preferred this. So, I’ve been using this in my golf bag, the 56 F grind, play a little bit squarer, and I’ve certainly enjoy this for longer shots and also these shorter ones. But we’re going to try that 58 because I know obviously we’ve always said that this is very much a specialist club. But we do have the versatile grind in this and this might be an option where get to have a little bit more flight, but then it’s around the edge of the greens and out of the rough. How does that perform? Is that a little bit more consistent than a 56? That’s what we need to decide. So 58, Dave, how does it sit behind a golf ball? Well, obviously it you can see there’s more loft. Um, it seems to sit fine. I was happy enough with obviously now I know what the uh whether it’s a V or the F. It seems very similar in way it sits. Yeah. So again, this is the V grind. So this is versatile. I’ve tried to fit it with how we’ve gone so far, but let’s see how it performs. Is it easier? Does it give Dave a different option? Delightful flight, Dave. That is a lovely flight. It is. Landed soft. Plenty of spin on there. And this is because, guys, you might have a wedge that you chip a lot with. Dave’s recently been chipping a lot with his 52 and not with his 56. So, shall we bring in a specialist wedge for those higher shots? Those maybe those bunker shots. Maybe out of the rough. It’s a little bit easier to get it popping up. Rough is quite thick and lush after a little bit of rain here in the UK. Again, look at that, Dave. It’s a lovely flight, isn’t it? It is. It gives you that option there. Popped up nicely. That’s over the bunker. Nice and confident. How’s it going to do around the edge of the green? Right. So, not a lie you would want, but a sat down in the rough. Something certainly we’re getting here in the UK. I’m going to go shortsided. So, you might get this in Bermuda grass. The ball sits down. Dave’s going to start with his 58 because sometimes here loft can be your friend. Just getting down into the back of that ball, popping it up, still not getting it going, shooting through the back of the green. Just like that. Up to down. Nicely out there, Dave. Just past. Yeah, but it’s on the green. You’d rather have it just past than sort of just here or right there in front of you. So, let’s switch over now, Dave. So, we know we’ve got the V grind in both of these clubs. So, we know they should go through the turf relatively the same. But, let’s see how we can control it with this 56. So, we’re going to stick with a 56 or are we going to go 58? That’s a good shot there and a little bit closer. So, so far the 56 is winning, isn’t it? Yeah, I t one. So, I think the 58 over there gave you Oh, yeah. That’s true. Certainly gave you a different option. Let’s pick one more lie. Okay. So again, on an ups slope here, we’re going to go to that flag right there, Dave. So out of the rough here, we’re going to knock this one down a little bit. That one’s down. Let’s go with 56 first. So this is where again potentially for Dave, he could open up that 52. So that might be a shot he would play. Let’s pretend there’s a bunker just in front of him here. Which one’s he more confident with? bit stabby, but I think it was over the bunker, but in the face. Yeah, very tentative there, Dave. So, let’s switch into the 58. And this is where for me, what I’d like to see is with a 58. A lot of you might keep your speed a little bit more. When we get into this club here, we’re trying to play it ever so cute. We’re trying to get just on the green. we start to have that D cell that Dave just had because he didn’t want to obviously send it over the green. You see there we could put a little bit more speed and it’s carried further but it’s a lot more positive there. There wasn’t a threat of it just bobbing in front of you. So, I think Dave, we’re gonna go 52 V grind and a 58. Woohoo. So, guys, a different video there on the next 100, but certainly a lot more options from Tacomao as a brand. They are obviously getting bigger and bigger. They’re bringing you more clubs, still at that affordable price. But, have you ever been for a wedge fitting? And if you have, what did you end up with? Did you get different grinds? Did you, like Dave here, end up with the same grind? because these are all things that can make you hit the ball a little bit different. They can get your consistency up or maybe down if you choose the wrong one. That’s why it’s extremely hard to buy clubs offline, especially when we’re thinking about wedges because it’s all dependent on your angle of attack, how you play your chip shots, and where you are playing. 1. I have absolutely no idea what v grind is, or what bounce is. Never heard of it before watching Youtube, and that as a former 8 handicapper. (old system)

  2. I do think its the most difficult thing for most of us with DTC brands, the guesswork and hoping we like the look/feel/sound of

  3. I am.amazed how Dave's short game has evolved this last year. I remember when he was really struggling. It gives me hope. ❤
