In The Bag: Top Ten With Isaac Storm

August’s edition of ITB:TT features the one and only Isaac Strom. A local stand out with a lot of character. the discs in his bag span decades, and he’s been in the game longer than most pros, starting at the age of just 4 years old. Come see what his 10 go-to discs are, and how many of them are Comets!

[Music] Oh man, now that’s content. I’m Isaac Strom. This is my in the bag top 10 with Jack Attack discs. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. [Music] Heat. [Music] All right, let’s uh let’s get into what’s in the bag. So, my top 10, obviously, we’re starting bottom up. I got the Discraft Focus um in the Putterline plastic. Love this disc. Um obviously a putting putter. I do throw it off the tea sometimes. pretty neutral, maybe a slight bit of stability at the end uh of its flight, and then putting it’s pretty much a dead straight putter. I love this. It goes in the basket. It’s great. [Music] [Music] Then throwing putters, I like the Soft Banger GT. Um, this is pretty much a forehand for somebody who doesn’t have a forehand. Uh, throw it on his flips up, turns on Annheiser. Um, great disc. Love it. Throw it mainly on shorter holes obviously. [Music] Next, I got the Zone GT. I throw this all over the place. Uh, great scrambling disc. I really love the group track. Little controversial. Not a lot of people love it. Um, yeah, anywhere up to like 320. If I need something stable, I’m probably throwing the Zone GT. [Music] probably the coolest disc in my bag. Uh a 1998 Comet in the original ProD plastic. Um this thing once again, it’s just a forehand almost. I’ll rip it on, you know, a knife hiser and it’ll flip all the way up and drift right. Um really good in the woods to like tempo down a little softer throw and it gets a dead straight flight. It’s really awesome. [Music] The 1998 disccraftraft comment in the original plastic. Whatever that means. A butterfly. You see that? Okay. Hot dog sandwich. Ton of hiser. [Music] Another comment. you’ll get to know that I really do love comments. Man, that one is a good disc. Every time I throw it, I’m always like, “How did it just do that?” Um, it’s probably the most overstable comet ever made. Maybe like Crystal Sparkle is close, but those uh those Michael Johansson Zflex jawbreakers are really awesome. I just put that one on his like stood up for a second, but then kept hiser and just pushed. So, it’s like whenever you have kind of a wide open hole, it’s easy to go like, “Okay, I’m going to throw super overstable.” I think I’d rather just, you know, you don’t have to throw as hard. Put a little more angle on it and it’ll pop up and do the same job. Um, but yeah, I’ve had that one in the bag for since it came out. So, almost a year now. And still stable, still flies great. Uh, let’s see how close. I’m guessing this hole is like 305. Bet you I’m like 10 ft. Yeah, that’s pretty close. Don’t even need a putter. Don’t even need a putter. One disc hole. Just the comment. [Music] Then at the other end of the spectrum, we have the Malta. Uh, this is an ESP real overstable. [Music] Great disc. Love it. I throw it all over the course. Mainly big hisers, some flex shots. Fairway driver. Uh I throw the Z Stalker. This is my go-to fairway driver up to like 415 ft. I’m pretty consistent with this disc. Very straight flight. uh but is able to flex out of some annheiser. So, it’s pretty versatile. Uh I love this disc. You’ll find I love every disc in my bag and that’s why they’re in there. [Music] Big stable disc control driver. We have the Discraph Big Z Raptor. Um when I do throw a forehand, it’s with this disc. Handles torque really well. Super angle resistant. Great disc, but not like too overstable where it’s not manageable. [Music] [Music] Now on to the drivers. I throw the Discraft Nuke, the Page Pierce one particularly. These things bomb. They go crazy far. I think my farthest flat ground drive with one of these Page Pierce ones is like 540. Um last weekend I had a couple that were pushing 500. So, these are very consistent far drivers. Not that domey, pretty flat overall. [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] but they have a really good hand feel. Probably the skinniest 13-speed that’s out there, except for this one, which might be a skinnier 13-speed. I love this disc. This is the Anthony Barella Venom uh in the Jawbreaker Zflex plastic. [Music] Super torque resistant. I rip on these on Annheiser. These things rock. Um really good for gap hitting. Knifeiser. They bounce. They absorb everything. [Music] Um, yeah. Damn it. Damn it. Okay, so scrap that first part about hitting the hole, but now we’re going to park it. I was hoping I was hoping Oh [ __ ] Oh, you can’t write that. The hardest part is just going to be editing around inside jokes that nobody understands. Got to cut the hoop. We filmed for 6 hours. We got 13 minutes of usable footage. You would think, oh, simple shot, right? There’s a little gap right there. Or you go over there. I like that big old gap in the clouds. And we’re going to freaking bomb the fairway. I hope I make it. Really, honestly. Maybe. What does it all mean, Isaac? You know, it just means having fun. I think a lot of the time I, you know, I used to take disc golf like super serious. Not that I don’t anymore. I really do love it, but it was like I have to play good. And it just kind of wears on you and it’s not really fun at a certain point. Um, and this year has been really fun. I’ve just kind of fallen back in love with it, you know, going out when I want to. you know, not practicing as much as I should, but also that’s like, you know, I’m not You’re also running marathons. I’m also running marathons. I’m also going to school. I’m also working. You know, there’s a lot of stuff that happens in life. And I’m okay not being the best disc golfer in the world. I’d love to, you know, how long can I be the best in Watcom or the best, you know, top 20 in the state or something like that. That’s always fun. But giving a little more realistic outlook on this golf has been good for this season so far. That’s what it’s all about. That’s what it’s all about. Thanks, Isaac. One more question really quick.
