German phenom Matti Schmid capped the 2025 Wyndham Championship with a dramatic three-straight birdies, vaulting into the final FedExCup Playoffs position on the bubble.

Key takeaways

Clutch finish: After a day of struggles, three consecutive birdies on 16, 17 and 18 flipped Schmid from 72nd into 70th on the FedExCup standings.

Bubble battle: He admitted he “should check the leaderboard more often” after seeing he was in 72nd on No. 15, then delivered when it mattered most.

Resilience under fire: Despite early flaws—missed fairways and tough rough—Schmid stayed positive, grinded, and got “a bit of luck” to see putts fall.

Up in the air: With nothing booked yet, he’s keeping travel plans loose until the final FedExCup standings are official.

Hey, Maddie. Um, heck of a finish. Birdie, birdie, birdie. What, um, do you take away from that finish and what allowed you to flip the switch down the stretch? Yeah, I mean, I obviously didn’t play too well today. I, uh, struggled a bit, uh, with my game, but hung in there and puts finally started to drop towards the end. I mean, uh, yeah, just grinded out. I was pretty positive today. I mean, trying to have a good finish and uh, yeah, maybe with a bit of luck. What was the um, did you have an idea going into 18 what you might need? Did did you look at your spot at all in the projections on Lutterborg? I saw on 15 that I was uh on 72nd place which I thought all right this is not too far away and then I made three birdies so probably I should look at it more often. What you take away, you know, from this week as a whole and just being on that bubble and kind of battling. Yeah, I think I’ve I’ve been on a few bubbles now. Um well, it’s a grind. Ideally, you want to be way outside of that so you don’t have to worry about that. What did the pressure feel like those first 11 holes as you were struggling a bit? Um, I mean it wasn’t really the pressure. I think I wasn’t too nervous, but I just um yeah, didn’t have it. Put myself in bad spots. Um, miss missed some key fairways, I would say. Uh, and yeah, then you struggle or rough here. What are your travel plans like at the moment? I have nothing booked at all. Do you have a gut instinct to whether you’ll be going to Memphis or just short? Uh, no. I just wait until it finishes and then we’ll see. I got my hotel until tomorrow. How’d you feel about making that putt on 18? Yeah, pretty good. I thought I was hoping it mattered, but uh the last three putts just all went in uh dead straight and uh sometimes they’re just going. It’s crazy. Thanks, man. Thank you, guys.
