Stone birdie put at two. [Applause] Here’s Stone. This is for Eagle. Two putts and get to the next would be nice. And that’s what he’s done. Good part two. Good to see Brandon playing well again. He moves to 14 under 31. That’s a beauty from Stone. Stone for Birdie to get to 15. One off the lead. Well done. Well done. Very good indeed. It was fifth birdie of the day. Brandon Stone with a birdie opportunity at the par 312. Long putt. Bit of a break off the left. He’s in between the two recommended lines, but he’s judged it beautifully. That’s a great body for Brandon Stone. Would you believe it? But the young South African has a share of the lead and he’s made it. Seventh bird of the day and Brandon Stone now alongside Eddie Peril at the top of the leaderboard. [Music] Oh, great shot back to take the lead outright. this to take the lead on his own and he’s made it. Eighth birdie of the round for Brandon Stone. He now leads the Scottish Open by one. Three to play. No wonder he’s smiling. Take a seat. Come on. Settle down. Yeah. Good shot. Doing it easy. Oh, it’s hugging that line. Oh, that’s a really good putt. Oh my goodness. He’s got it. I don’t believe it. Woo! As if eight birdies wasn’t enough, he goes and makes eagle at 16. One more birdie for a 59. 59. Watch. Unbelievable. What a round. 10 under path through 16. Well, we’ll see what he’s made of here because suddenly chance to break 60. One birdie in the last two. It’s a very good shot. [Applause] Oh, [Applause] that’s definitely I want to break 59 reaction. Swing shot. He’s relentless. Just nerveless. Beautiful rhythm. Absolutely slap bang in the middle of the fairway. The red spot just behind his ball is 160 yards to the front. Flags on 24. So 84 less about four 180 yards. Probably an 8 iron for him. Pumped up. Yeah. Yeah. He only needs to land it on the front edge, doesn’t he? So it might even be actually could be nine or wedge. These boys just rip it. [Music] Yeah. Did you say it’s a 145 shot? They’re figuring on seven or eight wind, bit of adrenaline and good bounce. [Music] He got the kick as well. Wow, that’s for a 59. What a round of golf. Cool as a cucumber this way. It’s just a unbelievable where he’s got this from after such a dreadful year. problems with his technique and then suddenly to come out and play like this, it’s just a just remarkable. Well, I think it’s beyond doubt now, but uh the tournament result, but it’s all about 59. [Applause] What do you reckon? I think he’ll make it. I really do. We’ve waited a long, long time, Jess, for a 59 in the European tour. 28 players have shot 60. And isn’t it nice that it’s happening in one of the biggest events in the country, which we proudly claim to be the home of golf. And I’m just delighted for Brandon. I’ve known him for a few years on his family. He’s just a lovely lad. after all the problems he’s had this year to come through to win the Scottish Open as he almost certainly will now. But to do it with a 59, my goodness, that’s the cherry on top of the icing on top of the cake, isn’t it? It is. It’s [Music] Brandon Stone, he started the week with a 70. He must have thought, “Oh my goodness, well, this is going to be a another week.” 64 second day, 66 third, and potentially this for a 59. Well, here it is. I’ve said it so many times over the years, the to make a little bit of European tour history. The Jinx strikes again. Why can no one make 59? It’s astonishing. But as I say, that’s just the cherry on top of the icing. It’s a round of 60. A stunning final round from Brandon Stone of South Africa, the man in the yellow and green. He’s wearing his country’s colors and they’ll be so proud of him. 60. A round of 60. [Applause] 20 under bar. No one is going to catch that. What a day. The 29th 60 on the European tour. The wait goes on. Brandon, many congratulations. You’re the winner of the Abodene Standard Investments Scottish Open. Just describe the sense of achievement for me having shot 60 in the final round. Uh it’s incredible. Um if I’m going to be brutally honest, I had no idea what my score was until I walked into the 18th green. Um it was just one of those days where where everything went well. Uh hit it great, hold some beautiful putts, and uh obviously to walk off with a 60 having missed an 8T is a slight disappointment, but you won’t really complain. What goes through your mind? What goes through your body when you did realize you had a putt for 59 on the 18th green? Well, must say my caddy uh he came up to me. He said, “But you don’t get putts like this too often.” So, I let him read it. I said when we walked on the green, I’m not reading this one. This is completely up to you. I rolled it over his mark, but he did criticize my pace. He said it lacked a little bit of pace. So, he probably is right. It didn’t get didn’t hold its line, but we’ll take it. You started the final round three behind, but 10 people in front of you, so obviously you needed an exceptional round. What point in the round did you say to yourself, “Hey, I could win this.” Tough one to nut down, I think. Um, obviously the wedge shots on 15 and 16 were were quite pivotal. Um, gave myself fantastic opportunities there. And then the putt on 16 is pretty much where you could say the tournament was one for me. I felt great. I knew I just needed to make three more good swings. And when that thing went home, the emotions came flooding. I had I had to really struggle to keep it in. Um, it’s been a long 18-month journey. Uh, making a few changes, but the swing felt incredible today. The putting felt even better, and uh, the mental state was flawless. So, a day where you’re shooting 60 and winning the Aberdine, uh, Scottish Open is something I’m going to hold dear to my heart for a very long time. What a champion. What a performance by Brandon Stone. 60 for a total of 20 under par to win by almost four shots over a worldass field here in G. To watch another DP World Tour video, click here. I still remember my first time breaking 60! ❤ It went downhill on the back nine though …
Too bad the birdie putt on the 18th didn't fall and could have made 59, but what a day for Stone.
