[Music] [Music] EA port to the king. [Music] Hi everybody. So glad you’re with us. Joe TessurÂ
alongside and we welcome you to Vegas where they do it bigger and better than any otherÂ
city when it comes to the big time fight. We’re at the Thomas and Max Center for a muchÂ
anticipated main event. Great atmosphere here tonight. You talk to everybody ringside and theyÂ
expect this one to be a barn burner. Leonard’s belief that he can overcome anything is showingÂ
through. He’s bubbling over with confidence. [Music] Roberto Duran’s ring walk is very interestingÂ
here. This isn’t over the top emotion. This isn’t a guy with an intense glaringÂ
stare. Just a guy going to do his job in the corner with a record ofÂ
36 victories, 25 big knockouts, and three defeats by Willington, Sugar Man. [Applause] his adversary with a record of 103Â
victories with 70 knockouts and 16 defeats by way of power city.Â
The hands of stone go Remember guys, obey my commands at all times. Let’sÂ
have a good, clean fight. Cut them up. When you get a fight like this thatÂ
everybody’s been talking about, it’s always so interesting to see theseÂ
opening moments here in round number one. Tenny, most ringside experts feel that thisÂ
is very much going to be a tactical fight. Yeah. Both these guys throw punches likeÂ
they’re paying for. And guess what? They’re both cheap skates. His opponent wantedÂ
the body. He wouldn’t give it to him. Oh, and he returns fire with a left hand. Able to get away from thatÂ
head shot with the block. Didn’t get it done going to the body there.Â
Solid straight right hand. That’s what I like. Getting rid of that punch from hisÂ
opponent. Well blocked by Sugar Ray Leonard. Teddy, early on in a fight like this speedÂ
fighter against a fighter with high stamina, what are some things you may notice that can hintÂ
to you the direction this fight will take? Well, the pace. Obviously, the faster fighter,Â
is he keeping it at a quick pace or as the slower fighter, the enduranceÂ
fighter, has he found a way to mellow that pace a little bit? Slow things downÂ
a little bit. Good job protecting himself. Tried to land that upstairs and was offÂ
the mark. Durant’s putting his punches together now. That’s a nice combination.Â
He’s always been so sharp with that punch. Sugar Ray Leonard. Tremendous technique there.Â
That’s a huge shot that left hand from Durant. [Applause] Nice job doubling up the jab by RobertoÂ
Durant. Able to dismiss that body shot. Final 10 seconds of round number one. Roberto DurantÂ
just punching air that time. His opponent was able to get out of the way. I’m not going toÂ
stand here and watch him take those shots. Got understand some defense and more punches. Okay.Â
Whatever you do from that. [Music] Keep your hands up. Roll your hands. Uppercut the left.Â
Uppercut with the right. Then the left. Always uppercut. Okay. Keep busy on the inside. BangÂ
the butt. Then finish with the uppercut. [Music] Here we go. Round two is underway.Â
There’s the combo downstairs. [Applause] Good block there by Roberto Durant. He’s targeting downstairs time and time again.Â
Nice block that time. It was intended to the head. [Applause] Roberto Durant swingingÂ
and missing like he’s at bat right there. That punch was nowhere nearÂ
his opponent and he’s holding. Wow. A big flush throw the left hand by SugarÂ
Ray Leonard. You know, it’s a new day and age, but people should really reflect on the celebrityÂ
of Sugar Ray Leonard. There was a long time period in this country where he was undoubtedly one ofÂ
the biggest superstars, not just in sports, but in all mainstream pop culture. Yeah, he was. FirstÂ
of all, he had that great smile. He was doing endorsements. He was doing soda commercials, youÂ
know. And I think what’s interesting about that is that he proved himself to the people. At firstÂ
they thought he was just this gold boy, this guy, you know, this superman and he had all this greatÂ
talent. But then after the first round fight, he showed everybody that he could lower his sleevesÂ
up, you know, that he could get that dirty, that he could be just a regular guy, a guy that youÂ
could count on, not just a guy that was privileged with great talent. That’s great right unable toÂ
connect. Able to get him up against the ropes. What a great job. He gave one right backÂ
in return. Nice work by Sugar Ray Leonard. [Applause] Oh, he just misses with that head shot.Â
Durant’s in complete control here as he takes a rest after a round in which he really dominatedÂ
the action. Is there anything Teddy that you see that he should be thinking about when he gets offÂ
the stool here for the next round? Yeah, you know, he should follow up on his lead, on his edge, onÂ
his advantage. You know, he’s I noticed that he’s hurt him in the body. Well, now start to doubleÂ
off that hook. One downstairs, one upstairs. Another [Music] round and if it keeps up with the restÂ
of them, it’ll be closely contested and hard to score. Well, his opponent isÂ
opening up and coming forward. So, I would think there are some opportunitiesÂ
in this. Yeah, I think some counter punching opportunities. opportunity not on theÂ
front end but on the back end. [Applause] That right hand over the top lands. Oh, good looking two punch combinationÂ
by Roberto Durant. [Applause] He just missed that shot up top. Roberto Durant’s right hand scoresÂ
well that time. And now another left. [Applause] 90 seconds to go here in this round. [Music] He’s [Applause] committed to the combinationÂ
punching now. This working out well up top. Oh, and he comes back with anÂ
uppercut there after getting hit. [Applause] [Music] Got to try to doÂ
better than that. He could with that hook. Nice strike after catchingÂ
one by Sugar Ray Leonard. Roberto Durant the kind of boxer that wantsÂ
to do just that. Find the target. Get the combination working. Lambo punch. Big shotÂ
there. He goes down, but it doesn’t look like it’s anything big there, Kennedy. It wasÂ
just off position. Forward a little bit. Okay. [Music] One, two, three. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Relax. Relax. Relax. You got toÂ
relax. You got to move out. Move. Move. Move. Breathe. Now,Â
breathe. You good? [Music] Start of round number four. Been an interestingÂ
fight so far. Leonard’s losing this fight. One round to do, but keep in mind the one round thatÂ
he won, he scored a knockdown. Well, in golf, they say, you have to have a short memory. BoxingÂ
sometimes a long memory. You must remember you can hurdle. He get back now switching things up. HeÂ
was knocked down earlier. So now he’s going to try to dig a different course. Now that tells me ifÂ
I’m his opponent a goal with the dealer that he’s very clever that he’s making a little switch orÂ
it just gives me confidence that he can. You know, he’s never done this before. And in my mind,Â
I’m saying I got him right where I want. Oh, what an exchange. [Applause] Well, supposed toÂ
be fighting, but instead he’s hugging. [Applause] Letter making for a tough target there.Â
He gets away from that punch. [Applause] Halfway through round number four,Â
[Applause] he returns the favor with a right hand of his own. [Applause]Â
Nice combination by Roberto Durant. That’s a stinging right hand by Sugar Ray Leonard. [Applause] Not much action as he just ties up. A crushing two-punch combo by Roberto Durant. keeps his hands up defensivelyÂ
protecting the head. [Applause] Look at the accuracy with that hook upstairs. So, we’ve come to the halfway point of what hasÂ
been a very highly competitive bout. And Teddy, if it stays that way throughout this night, thenÂ
this is going to be an alltime classic. [Music] [Music] Look at this. Right down the middle. BodyÂ
work. Get the body work. [Music] Good. action throughout. We’ll see if itÂ
keeps up in this round of what has been a very even fight. Look at that combinationÂ
by Roberto Durant. Durant. Oh, he is level. How could he possibly get up from that? He’sÂ
not going to. This fight’s over. It’s over. [Music] Good. Good. [Music] Knockout your winner. [Applause] Sometimes that’s all it takes. JustÂ
one good punch to end the evening. Leonard’s a knockout victim here tonight. OneÂ
good punch and one mistake at the wrong time. That does it from ringside for Teddy Atlas. I’mÂ
Joe Tessator. Thanks for being with us. [Music] [Music] [Music]
