[Music] Welcome back to the back nine of the big one, the 2025 disc golf world championships here in Tara, Finland. We are here at the monster with Calvin Heimberg as our guest today. Newest major champion in the world in dramatic fashion. No doubt. We’re doing once again doubles. Calvin and I are teamed up. We are eight under. These two goofballs over here at six under. Huge putts, tough lines, impressive course. Really pushing the envelope for as for what this golf course design could be. This place really takes everything to excel at. Yeah, just wait till the next hole in terms of pushing it. Let’s just wait till hole 11. All right. Well, uh we got a Toro to give away and we got some other announcements that we’ll bring up at the back at the end of the uh the video. Let’s get into it. Let’s go. [Music] Hole 10. This one’s 88 m, 289 ft. I think it adds a a cool kind of pressure. It’s It feels like finally you got to an easy hole, but it’s actually really tight gap and technical line. So, you feel like you really want to make a two here. You’ve just come through so much difficult golf. Uh but actually doing it is tough. And when you miss it, you can get a little bit frustrated. I don’t miss him. Okay. It’s a long putt. Yeah, that’s looking. But it is a putt. The line I’m trying to hit is narrow, but not nearly as narrow as what Nate did the other day. Two days in a row between those two. Two times in a row on the left side. Two throws in a row. Two throws in a row. Yeah. Watch this. Perfect flight. Yeah. See, that’s all you need. There’s nothing in the way when you go that way. Yeah. Nice shot, buddy. X3. It’s the X3. Sounds like a basketball shoe. Oh, I got lucky. Missed it. Missed the next one. Oh, I thought I got lucky. New spraying technology in the DX3. The way I look at this hole is there’s that one tree in the middle that I went right of. It’s like if you just miss on either side of it, you’re wonderful. Yeah, totally agree. The left side. Yeah. You got this guy just flex. Oh. Oh, yes. Yes. Double 22 feet. I got one. You argon. Uh, yeah. What’s up? Oh, the back door. That means Hey, how are you? Good. Hello. Thanks. Thanks. It’s to keep the sun off my face. It doesn’t really work. But what I don’t really like about that interaction with Jeff right there was that he said, “I like the headwear talking about you, but didn’t say anything about my hat.” And I mean, like, what’s so different? He’s probably seen you in that hat before. Yeah. He’s never seen me in this hat, you know? Just feel like he could have He knows that if like I’m here on hole 10 wearing it. I’ve been wearing it all day. Like you don’t just put this on in the middle of the course. So, like this clearly shows a commitment. Yeah, Nate’s breakdown is perfect about this hole. Like, you get to like 55 ft and you don’t make the putt. It feels like such an opportunity that was right there in front of you. This you finally got a shorty. Yep. Finally got a shorty. That’s got to be tough though. You know, that 312 footer on the mound does not feel like a must get. It’s like it’s right there. You’d like you’d like to get it. Hole. The mound hole. Oh gosh. No, not a must get. Not at all. I was like and I would like to get Oh, dropped. Oh, there’s a little wind out there, bud. Uhoh. Pitching if you don’t mind. It wasn’t pretty. Never in Nate’s life was he like worried about a 22footer until right then. He was afraid. Me? Yeah. Oh, he’s been worried about I’ve been worrying about 22 footers lately. Oh, no. More than I would like. 18. That was weird. And Estonia was not his friend cuz I didn’t like I don’t I don’t like how it’s coming off my hand even still. Like in practice, I’m getting the nose where I want it, but I’m going two nose down. And I put it at exactly where I want it. The pressure situations. I’m going two nose down. It’s a burn. All right, another one. That’s a better putt. Another must get. Another must get here. I don’t want to be clenching up on it. got two options. Heiser flip down the right side or if you’re a lefty, big turnover. And then the same on the on the left side. It’s way down there. I think the preferred route is left side flex shot, miss the last tree, and then maybe get in there. But the power players can throw a flip up his down the right and do the same. This is a a bonus birdie. Calvinberg. Oh. Oh, Church of Calvin. Oh, a little too much. Get through everything. Oh, good. Too bad. Oh, it’s still going. Still moving. That came off that tree like my drive. My discs don’t do that when they get 40 ft. It came off my tree like off the tree like at my release pace. That’s insane. That thing was huming. God, dude, that hole’s long. Yeah, it’s got to it’s got to be humming. Follow the yellow brick road. I’m still tournament play. Oh, I guess I’ll throw it back in. Not my tournament play. Could be could get weird. Side arm right side that turns a little bit, fades out to the right. More right it goes actually better it goes. Yeah. Annie’s just gonna get pulled to the death land. Yeah. I like the angle. Oh, that’s money. Flex out of it. Yep. Get through everything. Look at how much speed. Holy kick. Yeah, it kicked off that tree. That was crazy. Like a Coraline throw. It did this when it hit the tree. Damn it. It was out of rotations when we got there. Maxed out. All right, I got to get out. Done. This is more stable. I got to get it more turned over. Oh yeah. Come on. Oh yeah, this is it. This is it. Yeah, that’s the skip. And the skip. Let’s go, dude. Nice shot. Yeah, almost. That wasn’t even a hack at all. That was sick. That was awesome. All right. Yeah, I don’t really care anymore. He just makes it wherever he wants. He’ll throw wherever he wants. That was awesome. Nice putt, buddy. Nice on a Just star frames on nine and 11. That’s nice. What the heck? And and 10. Don’t gloss over 10. Don’t forget about 10. Although 10 was more of a sweat than this one, one. Yeah, that’s true. It’s more pressure. That was cool. That was Calvin’s tree kicking skipper that got it. Yeah. Yeah. I knew he was going to be circle, too. It looked I thought it was closer than that. I thought we had a chance when you were in the woods. 55. Yeah. That was a really good putt. It was like kind of I noticed Yeah, I kind of noticed that how it went in there pretty good. Yeah. Hole 12, 245 meter, 804 foot par five. Basically shaped like a U. You got to come down this hallway. Go left and then you make another left to get onto a nice mounded green. Um, I would say this is like a pretty easy par five if you get off the tee, but as soon as you don’t throw a good T- shot, things tend to to go bad really quick. So T-OT really important here. Then C1. Calvin’s just got the tree went accelerated somehow. Oh my god. Good goodness. Oh, you’re not going with the green turtle. You’re done for, buddy. What the hell did that hit? Probably something on the ground. Turtle. Turtle. It’s more of like I just want to know what distance that was. I want to know if that was the right shot. Yeah. I think it need to go a little corner. It It wasn’t going to get to It was going to get to maybe I think it needed to go a little bit farther. A little bit farther. Okay. All right. Thank you. That’s good enough for me. At what point would you guys ever really call that the tournament on a U-turn hole where like you’re just trying to place your foot in the direction of the fairway? Absolutely never. I would never ever. I have seen it called and it got called multiple times in a row on the craziest card I’ve ever played on. Okay. Was this the Schultz Nico? No. No. No. This was the famous the infamous Jeff Bennett, Steve Brinster, Frederick, myself. It was Seven Frederick. It was insane. Was this at Maple Hill? This is where you if you got called on the putt, you had to rep putt it. And Bennett and we were all the lead card playing for the dub. And Bennett had a impossible downhill 80footer. Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania. And uh he made it and and uh he was doing this weird little putt that was we thought was completely illegal. And Brenster goes comes up to me. He’s like, I’m calling him on the next one. I’m going to do it on this next one because he’s probably just going to lay it up. And he calls him on it and he runs it is 90 ft downhill on a highrise. It’s like this tall with a 50ft drop off and immediately Did he call it before it went in like immediate? Oh yeah. Oh god. Makes it Bennett was so like he was just like what? Like so defeated and he and he just like went over ran it again. Took like a six. Oh my gosh. And then the next hole called somebody on one. Then Frederick called Brinster on one or something. Then somebody called me on one. It was like four in a row of Is this the one where I won? I don’t know. I think I I think I won that one in a playoff over Brinster. Maybe that year. Maybe. You guys are just taking each other out. Chase card bringing it up. I think Bennett got like hit through another one going on an island and got ran over by a car. That was on my card. That was a different one. That was on my card. Yeah, he’s he’s been through it. He’s definitely been through it. That’s a good shot, buddy. Oh. Oh, there’s the result. Yep. Good trick. Yeah. It didn’t have like fancy names, you know, DX, Neutron, Star, ESP. It was just plastic. Just a T-Ird. Yeah, exactly. It was just the disc. Whatever the disc was. Nate’s been making these. You should probably just play this one. Here’s my junky shot. Spin it in. Did I stay up top? Must have. Yeah, a little bit. Better than mine. I believe it. Cool. This is a big rock. It really is. Are they really? They’ve missed one. They’ve only missed one. Oh, dude. We could eagle this one if we throw a good one. Yes. Get back on track, J. Get back on track, dude. I’m so sick and tired of being off track. Yeah, I’m sick and tired of that, too. Hole 13. 285 m. That means it’s a 935 ft par5. Uh the T-shot here, we’re just trying to follow the yellow brick road or the little uh the little wood chips here. They shape the hole kind of perfectly. I think drawing it a little bit to the right and having the disc finish left shapes the fairway really nicely. Although the hiser flip also plays, you just don’t want to get caught up in the early stuff left. Uh from there, the next shot is going through a row of trees. Actually, the next two shots, you’re going to be going through a lot of birch trees, just trying to stay on the fairway. There is some potential for an eagle on this hole. I’ I think if you go really aggressive with your second shot after a great T-OT, you could maybe get a look. Um, but for most people, I think this is going to be a par five. That birdie is definitely in play with two or three good shots. Very positive. I try to I see a lot of people laying up like putter. I last year I played like he was doing four like 270 forehand firebird then big forehand big forehand. Yep. That’s it. That’s the That’s the yellow brick road. You made it. Is that in the pond? Oh, I didn’t even Is there a pawn like right there? I don’t know. Did that fly the whole time? No. No. Okay. No. Then you’re good of the pond. Yeah. If you just threw a sick hiser back door, you probably get the pond. No, that that held on to my hand for about a minute. Okay. held on to my hand. No chance. Calvin throws it right. Oh, it’s got to be not Skippy. There’s an OB pond over there. There is a pond over there. I found it last year. To the left or just straight to the left? Both. Way left. Yeah. Really? Yeah. It’s tiny and it makes you cry when you find it. You’re disc in it. Cry after that. Oh, okay. Don’t pull it into that tree, doofus. One of those moves right there. Oh, I did that. No, we’re running. Just Just trying to think about that little bit of turn causes me to go late. I think that’s where you got to be is like aim it at the woods and turn it. A belief that there is no ceiling and that the bar can always rise higher. I didn’t realize that you actually were like that shot was parked so bad, but ended up so good. I think makes only sense for you to finish this one off. I’ll try every Thank you. Okay, Brandon, my second shot wasn’t horrible. No, no, no. From the knee, it wasn’t horrible. No. Every other shot that I threw on that hole was absolutely horrible, dude. Honestly, like I don’t know. I might have to wear this hat all week. Unfortunately, Calvin, we got to ask for the hat back after the round. Wait, what? Just kidding. Wait, what? You’re kidding. I thought this was a gift. It is. It’s a gift. It’s a happy birthday gift for Mike. Oh, hole 14 is a par4 at 564 ft, 172 m. Super tight gap off the tea, breaking to the left, and there’s a little kind of choke point. Then it opens up, but there’s an OB sand area right by the pin. So, the perfect shot would maybe be backhand his through to set up kind of a high flex shot into the basket. I would appreciate if you guys just open the door for us a little bit. Yeah, cuz we know he can ace the sub. So, just let us get within one before the sub. Yeah. Or good swing holes. Speaking of a good swing. Oh, he gets through. That got inside line somehow. Lucky ducky. Yeah. Snuck it inside the trees. Inside the trees. You went inside the widest birch. Are you sure about that? Yeah. Are you sure? I don’t know how I do better than that. Yeah, that was good. That’s maybe the first time I’ve ever thrown a practice disc. You can do that back door flick from where that one landed. You’re enough on the right side. Yeah. Okay. The green is beautiful, too. Elevated with uh some nice guardian trees around it, but it’s just very technical as far as a distance hole. I think this is the best hole on the course. Woo! Best hole in the course. I do. I just think it’s such It’s a It’s a beauty. It takes a perfect shot. Another perfect shot. And distance isn’t a huge advantage. It’s the It’s getting to the right spot. I mean, you do need like a 300 foot guy ain’t going to get it, but No. No. Next level distance tour, the lowest guys can get it and it’s hard for everybody with two perfectos. Yeah. This is a a hole where if you keep it in the middle, you don’t have to throw too far in any shot, but uh it’s easy to to get off the fairway in the little trees. Otherwise, you’re going to have to pull some crazy angle as you go up this huge hill to a basket that has a big drop off behind it. Very rewarding birdie to get, but very much accessible with two good forehand throws that don’t require a ton of distance, but premium on the accuracy. It’s kind of crazy. They’re so ridd. And so far, everything that the tournament staff has done to lead up to the event has been exactly as we would expect. anything UC Merzma and the whole Finnish crew up here in the TAR region and really they’re coming from all over Finland to help out so many volunteers. This is going to be a spectacular week, one that we’ll all remember for the rest of our lives and is going to set the stage for future foreign world championships. Look at us. I mean, we’re like 40 ft up in the air on a giant World Championship banner with multiple stories. And if you look in the background, there’s like a 150 seats, stadium seating behind the tea. I was just telling Calvin this is like I feel like my whole career this is where every random Joe thought disc golf was going in five years and I always thought it will never make it and then here I stand and we’re kind of here and they were right and I was wrong.
