Hi, I’m Justin Hicks. Are you not seeing an improvement in the direction of the ball flight you would like? Well, first thing’s first, let me go over what determines the direction of the golf ball. There are only two factors that determine the direction. The first is the club face, the second is the path. The path is the direction that I swing the club. Do I swing it to the right, to the left, or in a circular arc? I’m going to use a hula hoop here to illustrate the path.

The face determines the starting point of the golf ball. The face is responsible for about 65-85% of where the ball starts. So, if I see a ball start to the left, I know that the face was pointed to the left. If I see a ball start to the right, I know at impact the face is pointed to the right. The curvature of the golf ball, or the lack thereof, is determined by the difference of the face and the path. If the face and the path match up and they’re pointed in the same direction, the ball will not curve. If the path is to the right of the face, the ball will curve to the left. If the path is to the left of the face, the ball will curve to the right.

So, you’re hitting golf balls, determine where the ball’s starting and which direction the ball’s curving. Based on that, you can figure out what’s happening at impact, and begin to make the proper steps to improve your ball flight.
