Cameron Young has been searching for his first PGA Tour win since 2022. He has come close but has yet to kick down the door to the winner’s circle.

But Young is now 18 holes away from becoming a PGA Tour champion. Young opened the Wyndham Championship with rounds of 63 and 62 to take a three-shot lead into the weekend. Young came out Saturday in the third round and posted a five-under 65 to reach 20 under par and grab a five-shot lead over Nico Echavarria.

Young has seven runner-up finishes in his career, but doesn’t view Sunday as a way to get a monkey off his back. The 28-year-old bomber doesn’t see his goose egg in the win column as an indictment of his play on Sundays. Sometimes, you just get beat.

“If you go back through, I finished second a bunch, I’ve gotten beat a lot,” Young said after his round. “I’ve played some good golf on Sunday in really all those cases. So that’s all I’m trying to do tomorrow. I’m starting in a nice spot, so I’m just looking to try to beat second place by as many as I can. That’s been my mindset from the first tee on Thursday and that’s what I’m going to try to do tomorrow.”
