LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Lubbock golfers had the chance to tee off for a bigger cause on Saturday at the Texas 635 Golf Tournament.

Texas 635 was created by Carmen East, the widow of Texas Tech Police Officer Floyd East Jr., who was killed in the line of duty in 2017.

The organization hosts the tournament every year to help raise money, awareness, and support for the surviving spouse or family members of law enforcement officers killed while serving their community.

Ricky Wallace, a sergeant for the Texas Tech Police Department, helped Carmen organize the tournament and says none of this would be possible without support from the community.

“We can’t thank everybody enough,” Wallace said, “because without the players this doesn’t happen, without the sponsors this doesn’t happen, so these people as you see behind me with all these golf carts, this is all for the tournament. There is not enough words to say thank you to these people.”

If you did not get the chance to participate in the tournament, but would like to get involved with the organization, you can find more information at texas635.com.
