John Daly advised fellow legend Tiger Woods to help son Charlie add muscle mass as he chases a professional golf career to follow in his father’s path.

Charlie, 16, continues developing physically while refining his golfing skills. He claimed his first American Junior Golf Association victory at the Team TaylorMade Invitational this year.

Nevertheless, he has encountered his share of disappointments, including missing qualification for the Junior U.S. Open last week while his father rehabilitates from an Achilles injury. Charlie also failed to make the cut at the US Junior Amateur Championship, a tournament his father, Tiger, captured three times.

The teenage Woods displays clear ability, but Daly, one of golf’s most distinctive and cherished legends with two major championships, has emphasized that Charlie needs to add bulk to maximize his potential.

Charlie reportedly measures just under 6-foot, with several years of development ahead. Daly cautioned Woods to help his son gain weight to prevent growing beyond 6ft without the strength to outdrive his competitors.

Speaking on the latest episode of the Like a Farmer Podcast, Daly said: “I told Tiger, I said you have to let Charlie spend a month with me. I have to put some mash potatoes and meet in that boy. We have to gain him some weight.

“Because he is going to hit a growth spurt and be like 6-foot-2 and he is going a bone!

“We need to put some Jon Daly food in that boy and get him up a bit. Let him gain some weight and then he will probably hit it 60 yards past everybody like little John does.”

Tiger remains optimistic that his son will enjoy a thriving professional golf career. Whether it will match or surpass Tiger’s 15 major championships remains to be seen.

Nevertheless, Tiger has stated that Charlie excels beyond what he himself achieved at that age in certain areas of the game.

“He’s gotten better at every facet of the game. That’s a commitment to practicing and developing as a player,” Tiger said. “I think that most of us forget he’s only 15 years old.

“I know he’s been doing this in front of the media for a long time. But being only 15, I think it’s incredible what he’s been able to accomplish so far, and the ceiling that he has is unlimited. I wish I hit it that far and that good. I definitely did not do that at his age.”
