John Daly told fellow legend Tiger Woods to get his son, Charlie, to bulk up as he pursues a professional golf career, following in his father’s footsteps.

Charlie, 16, is still physically growing as he continues to hone his craft in golf. He won his first American Junior Golf Association title at the Team TaylorMade Invitational earlier this year. However, he has also suffered his fair share of setbacks, including failing to qualify for the U.S. Open while his dad recovers from an Achilles injury.

Charlie also missed the cut at the US Junior Amateur Championship, a tournament his dad, Tiger, won three times. The teenage Woods’ talent is evident, but Daly, one of the sport’s most unique and beloved legends with two major titles, has highlighted that Charlie must bulk up to maximise his reach.

Charlie is believed to stand just shy of 6-foot, and he has a few years of growth to come.

Daly warned Woods to get his son to bulk up to avoid sprouting above 6ft and not having the muscle to drive the ball further than his opponents.

Speaking on the latest episode of the Like a Farmer Podcast, Daly said: “I told Tiger, I said you have to let Charlie spend a month with me. I have to put some mash potatoes and meet in that boy. We have to gain him some weight.

“Because he is going to hit a growth spurt and be like 6-foot-2 and he is going a bone!

“We need to put some Jon Daly food in that boy and get him up a bit. Let him gain some weight and then he will probably hit it 60 yards past everybody like little John does.”

Tiger is confident that his son will have a successful professional career in golf. Whether it’ll match or exceed Tiger’s 15 major titles is yet to be determined.

However, Tiger has claimed that Charlie is better at his age then he ever was when it comes to certain aspects of the game.

“He’s gotten better at every facet of the game. That’s a commitment to practicing and developing as a player,” Tiger said. “I think that most of us forget he’s only 15 years old.

“I know he’s been doing this in front of the media for a long time. But being only 15, I think it’s incredible what he’s been able to accomplish so far, and the ceiling that he has is unlimited. I wish I hit it that far and that good. I definitely did not do that at his age.”
