After battling a herniated L5-S1 disc, my golf swing has changed, slower swing speed, limited rotation, and a need to protect my lower back. That meant one thing: I had to re-fit and re-evaluate my clubs to match my new swing.
Thankfully, Protee VX and Protee Labs gave me the tools to do just that.
In this video, I walk through a 10 shot session using a PXG 311XP 7-iron, showing how Protee’s advanced data, like strike location heat maps, launch angles, swing path, and face-to-path analysis helps me identify exactly what adjustments I needed to make. From lie angle corrections to understanding how my body is affecting the flight, this system has been essential in getting me back on track.
If you’re recovering from injury or simply trying to dial in your clubs to fit your swing, this kind of feedback is a total game changer. I’m not swinging like I used to but with the right tools, I’m building a better version of my game.

Hey everyone, welcome back. Today I’m taking a small dive into the ProT Lab software and how I’m using it to help my game. I’m using it to break down my swing and specifically an iron that I picked up PXG 311 XP. I’ve been battling some lower back issues for quite some time. I have a L5S1 herniated disc. So, my swing speed has suffered quite a bit. It’s slowed down. I need every tool in the bag to try to get back to where I was. I never will get back to where I was, but I’m trying to utilize the tools that the Proteil Lab software has to get me somewhere. I I need some help and um I think the lab software is going to do it for me. So, I’m taking it slow, trying to rework and rebuild my game from a new foundation. And the tools that Prot Labs now offers makes the process manageable. From customizable data tiles to clubface heat maps, swing path visuals, it’s all here. When you pair that with the ProTVX overhead launch monitor, it it’s a game changer. I’ve had this unit for almost two years now, and I could not be happier. So, let’s get into it. This is a short video, like I said, a small dive into what this software can do for you and how I think it’s going to help my game. Let’s check it out. Okay, so what you’re about to see here is a 10shot session, and I’m going to be using the PXG 311XP 7. You’re going to see heat maps and strike location on the face after each shot. dispersion circles, ball flight, custom data tiles, including club speed, ball speed, carry and total distance, smash factor. I’ve got spin access and total spin up there, swing path, face to path, and launch angle. Now, these are just a few of the metrics that I’ve chosen, but there are many more available. So everything you see on screen here is fully customizable and perfect for instructors, club fitters, or anyone looking to truly dial in their equipment. Okay, with that being said, let’s take a look at our first shot. Okay, so if you look at the data table in the middle of the screen, you’re going to see all of the data points that we discussed earlier across the top. Let’s take our second shot. You can see my club speed, low 70s. You know, I used to be around 80 82 because of the back issues. I’m down in the 70s now. Low 70s. Swing path into out. I’m closing the face. And the reason I’m closing the face is because the clubs, the lie angle is not right for me. I need to be two degrees flat. These are standard. And that’s where that draw is coming from. The int path is fine. Uh but the face to path, it’s closing up because of that. Now, keep in mind the reason I’m giving these irons a try is they’re stronger lofted. I’m going to get more distance. They’re they have light shafts, easier to swing, and they’re more forgiving. So, with my swing speed, I’m hoping this is going to be beneficial. Look at that one. 6.6 6 closed. And look at the flight path. It shows you how forgiving these irons are. At 6.6 closed, dispersion really isn’t that bad. Let me bring up the front impact tile. Now, this is from an earlier shot. I didn’t have this preset, so you’re seeing this from an earlier swing. But 5.4 degrees toe up. This is my biggest issue. And I think once I get that straightened out, I think these irons are going to work out for me. They’re going to get me some distance. And hopefully I can launch the ball with higher flight and try to get some more spin because the spin is quite low, too. So, that’s what I’m going to work on next. So, the lab software just keeps getting better and better. Yesterday was their new release of this club face heat map. You can see it right there. You’ve got the heat map on the face of the club and that white dot is the impact point. So you’ll see that change at every strike and that’s where the ball is actually meeting the face of the club. That one was a little more on the toe side. And you can see that was open face slightly into out, but face angle was 5.4 open and it was a push to the right. Let’s open up the data table and look at some numbers. So these are our averages and we can sort these out. We took 10 shots and you can see the club speed. Our average was 735 with a median of 738 deviation of 1.4. So, pretty consistent ball speed, 995 average. Carry at 136 had probably one shot in there that wasn’t very consistent, not in line with the rest. So, it was a 9.2. Total distance average 156. Had that one shot at 138. And then our smash factors, our spin numbers, swing path. I don’t mind in to out. I’d much rather have in to out than out to in with my swing. There’s the face to path. You can see the inconsistencies there. Launch angle and the apex. I’ve got to get the the ball flight up in the air more. Definitely not high enough ball flight. So, here are averages across the board, but we can really drill into this now and look at each shot. And if you highlight by row, you can look down at the driving range and see the actual ball flight. You can see the dispersion circles on the left highlight where that ball landed. club face heat map. You’ll see the changes on there. So, you can really dive deep into each shot and really analyze your swing. Prote has done a fantastic job with their updates and I’m really looking forward to see what else they have coming up in the future. So, what did I learn today from this? Uh, I basically learned that the PXG 311 XP is a great iron option for me if I’m looking for distance and forgiveness, but at the same time, they need an adjustment in the lie angle. So, I’m going to have to address that. The toe sits up at address, and you can see from the data that it’s pulling my shots left, unless I start compensating, and then I end up pushing it right. So, but the loft of 29 degrees on the seven iron, you know, they’re they’re definitely stronger than traditional lofts, and that’s what I’m looking for. But I also need to be able to stop the ball on the green, and my ball flight is too low. So, I’ve got to work on that. You know, I’ve been comparing these to my Tacoma 2011’s, which feel great, but you know, they’re not as forgiving. The carry, I just don’t have the distance with them. Although, I I love those irons, they’re just not as easy to hit. I’m getting older. I can’t swing the club like I used to, and this is just going to be a better option for me in the long run. So, that’s going to wrap it up for today. Um, I hope this video was helpful for you. I know the Proteil Lab software is going to be tremendous help for me moving forward as I struggle with this back injury. Um, as you can see, today we did a a session with a seven iron, hit 10 shots, and right away the lab software identifies where my issues are and what I need to do to correct them. And that number one being the lie angle. If you’re in the market for an overhead launch monitor or if you just want to unlock a deeper understanding of your game, I genuinely recommend Protabs Pro TVX launch monitor and Protab software together. You can’t beat it. It’s helping an old guy with a beat up back find a way to keep improving the game that I love. Thanks for watching. Thanks for subscribing. Also, I want to mention Joe Lagowski. If you’re watching this video, you know who Joe Lagowski is. If you want to really dive deep into the ProTVX software, Joe really gets into it um at a low level. This is high level. Joe dives deep into the Protab software. So, check out his channel. He’s very helpful. Um, I can’t recommend him enough when it comes to learning the technology, any any type of technology in the sim world. He’s your guy. But today, I hope this was helpful for you. I like to get into the tech stuff, too, once in a while. My primary business is on the tech side. Um, but when it comes to golf, I like to just kind of stick to golf, but I can’t help but get involved with the tech stuff once in a while. So, but Prot Labs, check them out. Check out Joe’s channel if you want to learn more about the VX. That’s going to do it for today. Thanks for watching and we will see you next time.

Really cool and insightful!
Great Video, keep going at it
seems like you need a lie angle adjustment?
I just got my Protee last week. One thing I have noticed that seem way off is the roll out. I am getting 20 yards roll out with my 9i and up to the 4. That’s just not right. I had a 48° with a 46° decent angle roll out 12 yards. I think they need to look into that. What do you think? Also I with the dispersion chart actually gave the total dispersion number.
