As the world’s top 156 golfers gear up for the Open Championship, one of the sport’s most beloved veterans has announced that his 2025 season has come to an early end. Charlie Hoffman, a four-time PGA Tour winner, revealed via Instagram that he’s stepping away from the game for the remainder of the year to undergo surgery. Been out of action the last month getting my lipoma on my right shoulder assessed, wrote the 48-year-old. At this time, all doctors I consulted with told me it was time to have my lump removed. July 30th is the surgery. We’ll be back in action on the atur in 26. Now, back to family adventures in Yoseite. A lipoma is a soft, non-cancerous growth made of fatty tissue that typically forms beneath the skin. While usually harmless, Hoffman has opted to have it surgically removed following medical advice. The veteran golfer has made 15 starts on the PGA Tour this year with his most recent appearance coming at the RBC Canadian Open where he finished 67th. Prior to that, he missed three consecutive cuts and has only made the weekend five times all season. His best finish came at the Corales Panakana Championship where he tied for ninth. Fellow professionals including Joel Domin and Justin Thomas quickly offered their support and well wishes after the news broke. Hoffman isn’t the only PGA Tour star to be sidelined this season. Eighttime tour winner Billy Horchel also remains out of action after undergoing hip surgery in April. Horchel called the procedure a preventative measure and is reportedly targeting a return in the fall. With surgery scheduled and recovery on the horizon, Hoffman is now turning his focus to healing and enjoying time with family with hopes of a fresh start in 2026.
