Tiger Woods’ son Charlie has missed out on a chance to qualify for the US Junior Ryder Cup team, finishing in a tie for ninth at the Junior PGA Championship in Indiana.
The 16-year-old fired himself into contention with back-to-back rounds of 66 across the second and third rounds that put him into a share of second and the final group heading into the final round at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex.
The teenager endured a tough final round however, shooting a three-over par 74 including three bogeys and a double bogey in the final ten holes to slip down the leaderboard.

Woods, who is 20th ranked golfer in the American Junior Golf Association, finished -9 for the tournament, ten shots behind winner Lunden Esterline, who triumphed by a commanding six shots.
But the focus was all on Woods, who attracted bigger crowds with every day, despite the absence of his father.
The youngster was also four shots off a US team qualifying spot for the Junior Ryder Cup, which precedes the senior event between the US and Europe in New York next month.
But his hopes are not completely dashed as one captain’s pick remains.
Although, reports indicate he is unlikely to be selected after not reaching the match play rounds at last week’s US Junior Amateur.
What is for certain is that his 15-time major winning father will not be playing an active role at the Ryder Cup, having turned down the US captaincy last year.
“With my new responsibilities to the Tour and time commitments involved, I felt like I would not be able to commit the time to Team USA and the players required as a captain,” Woods said in a statement released more than a year ago by the PGA of America.
“That does not mean I wouldn’t want to captain a team in the future. If and when I feel it is the right time, I will put my hat in the ring for this committee to decide.”
