Five PGA Tour players have withdrawn during the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club.

Nate Lashley and Kaito Onishi both withdrew after the first round in North Carolina.

Lashley carded a 74, while Onishi fared four shots worse with a 78.

The PGA Tour did not provide official reasons for why either player chose to WD from the tournament.

Neither one-time PGA Tour winner Lashley or Onishi would have advanced for the start of the FedEx Cup Playoffs next week even with a victory at the Wyndham Championship.

Both players are fighting to keep their cards on the PGA Tour next season.

They will need to end up inside the top 100 come the end of the FedEx Cup Fall Points List.

Those finishing inside positions 101 to 125 will earn conditional status on the PGA Tour for 2026.

Erik van Rooyen was then forced to withdraw during the second round of the Wyndham Championship.

Two-time PGA Tour winner van Rooyen opened with a 73 to leave him with work to do to make the cut.

But when dangerous weather suspended play for the second round by the time he birdied the par-5 5th, his 14th hole of the round, van Rooyen chose to withdraw from the tournament.

He cited a back injury as the official reason for his WD.

The South African now faces an agonising wait to see if he makes the top 70 that advance to next week’s FedEx St Jude Championship, which marks the start of the Playoffs.

As it stands, van Rooyen has dropped four spots to 68th in the FedEx Cup standings, which would be enough to advance to Memphis.

Two hours later when it was confirmed by the PGA Tour that play would not be starting again until Saturday morning, both Akshay Bhatia and Isaiah Salinda chose to withdraw from the tournament.

Two-time winner Bhatia opened with a solid 68 but he endured a rough second round at 5-over par thru 14 holes before the horn sounded.

Salinda began with a 75 and despite being 3-under thru 14 holes on day two decided to also call it a day.

Bhatia is safely through to the start of next week’s Playoffs, but Salinda will miss out.

A number of other high-profile names withdrew prior to the start of the Wyndham Championship.

The most notable names to WD were US Open champion Wyndham Clark and Canada’s Mackenzie Hughes.

On a more positive note, Cameron Young charged to the top of the Wyndham Championship leaderboard on 14-under par thru 15 holes before play was suspended.

The big-hitting American leads by one shot over defending champion Aaron Rai at the time of publication.

Young is not only going in search of a first PGA Tour title but also a debut appearance in the US Ryder Cup team, which is still a distinct possibility if he goes on to land victory this Sunday.

Rai is another who will have one eye on making his first European Ryder Cup team this September.

Play was suspended on day two at 4.32pm local time.

The second round will resume on Saturday at 7.30am.

The cut mark is likely to fall at 3-under par.
