I’m going to start off this by saying that I have my disagreements with the world ranking system before I ever joined Lyft. I already thought it was flood before I ever came and I was vocal about it. So I’ve think the last few years um even the world ranking itself and both data golf do a strokes gain ranking and I think that much more reflects who truly is playing the best. Uh cuz the actual points being a two-year ranking, right? you can have a poor week or a poor three weeks that will hold you down for two whole years, right? So, it’s uh it’s crazy how you can actually finesse a little bit of the system by playing certain weeks and not playing certain weeks and and things like that. So, um it’s always going to be somewhat accurate, but not the most. And I think strokes gained usually is going to be the better representation of how truly everybody’s playing, right? uh in data golf and world rank and they both have their own version. I think they’re somewhat similar for the most part, right? I mean, give and take from the players, but um if you’re top 10 in one, you’re most likely going to be top 10 in the other one as well. So, it’s like the order might change a little bit, but I think it’s it’s a fair representation of where everybody’s at. So, John Rams got an issue with the world golf rankings and wants to use data golf and strokes gained to clarify who the best players in the world are. I agree with him on one standpoint. I don’t agree with him uh with some of the stuff he said. I I do agree strokes great strokes gained is a better metric and trying to figure out who is playing the best golf. I’m not a fan of how world golf ranking gives so much more points to a champion versus second or third place. I mean, golf, the more you understand about extra game, the more you realize that winning does require luck and the variance that happens and the randomness and the luck that’s required. Unless you’re Scotty, you’re just that much better than everyone else. But for the rest of the mortals, um there is a lot of luck that is required. So, giving that much more points for first or second or third uh can skew some things, especially over a two-year window. whereas stroke gain is a bit of a better measurement of who’s actually playing the best golf. Uh, which I really like their ranking. So, I do agree with John Rom that should be done. But at the same time, you’re comparing apples to oranges because strokes gain is about measuring you against your competition and they’re not playing the same places. So, you can’t really compare the PJ tour versus live because they’re playing different courses, different styles. Um, it’s just going to be hard to compare those two. So, I don’t agree with John. It would work if they’re all playing the same

  1. Strokes gained has nothing to do with the courses! It’s against the competitors, the course is irrelevant.

Despite LIV having fewer ‘top’ players its strength throughout the whole field is actually far better than the strength throughout the field on a PGA event nowadays(that’s if people have the foresight to look past the top 20 on the pga, it’s quite bleak if you keep going down)
So strokes gained would actually penalise Rahm still.

The world ranking system currently is worthless. Bryson,Rahm, Hatton are comfortably top 10 players

  2. I have no problem with these guys going to LIV. But you cant cry and complain about it, you knew what the deal was. Maybe me and my friends should start our own Tour and demand we get world ranking points.
