Our whales debut is off to a good start and we’ve got a tight leaderboard here at Royal Pall, but there is a lot of golf left to be played. So, let’s recap the first round. I’m Hope Barnett and you’re watching LPGA Now. Let’s get into it. Royal PH Call wasn’t easy on Thursday, but these athletes bit back. Just use little mark there. Just going to move it to the right. Out of the 17 Japanese players in the field, six of them are at the very top of the leaderboard. Now, let’s take a look at it. We have Rio Teada and JLPGA’s Aryokyama tied for first. Miyu Yamashida in third, Chisato Ewi, Ma Saigo, and Shiu Kawaki in the group that’s tied for fourth alongside LPGA members Alexa Pano, Minot Roy, Ena Yun, and Inji Chun. Rio is looking for her third LPGA win and first major championship. Second shot for Tada. And things are looking good for her so far. Quite hilarious. 40 mph or so and into the into the face of the the first time. Ah, it was like round. Oh, what a wonderful shot from Teada. I thought she was kind of snookered over there with only seven yards of green to work with, but what a start to your round. She only needed 27 putts during the first round. Miu took her medicine with two bogeies and then made up for it with four birdies and an eagle in a sixhole stretch. Playing down wind, which is helping the players pin at the back. You got to get up over a false front. Oh, and oh, he’s got a chance. She made her eagle putt on nine look like a piece of cake. Right in the middle. Very good. Alexa Pano won in her rookie year back in 2023. She missed the cut at the Amundi Evian Championship and the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, but she came to Wales looking for redemption. Well, you’ve won in the UK before. So, do you ever try to draw on those good vibes, you know, when you come back over to this side of the pond? Yeah, definitely. Even having good memories from last year’s AIG, I think just like I don’t know, gets me excited during the week. I’m always excited when it’s a major, but I think this one’s just a little special and being over here is special. Yeah. So, would you say you like Lynx Golf? And and and why if the if the answer is yes? I think we’re leaning towards yes. I used to kind of say no. I thought I was a fair weather golfer, but now I think I kind of like toughing it out and taking it shot by shot. And I said this in an interview earlier, but it’s not like a birdie fest like a lot of our other events are. And I think I actually might like that. So, I’m leaning towards Yes. One thing about Inji Chun is she locks in during majors and this week is no different. You beauty. Into the red she goes there at 10. She could complete the career grand slam and her three under 69 proves that she wants it. Be sure to tune in to watch the second round of the AIG Women’s Open. And come back right here to watch LPGA now.
