The Shane Lowry situation is definitely a tough ruling. They spent a ton of time in the scoring tent. You know, there was a lot of back and forth about this. Yeah, I was in there with the rules official and wasn’t arguing my case, but but the rules officials, they did have video evidence against him. The problem is the video evidence was limited. A pretty tough situation there when you’re zooming in on this golf ball, you know, in the rough. It’s hard to tell, you know, the one zoomed in slow motion. You couldn’t see all of Shane. You couldn’t see where his eyes were, and you couldn’t see the fact that he didn’t see the ball move, which is super important. You know what they’re trying to tell me? If it doesn’t move from the naked eye, if you don’t see it moving, it didn’t move. The naked eye standard when video technology reveals evidence of a breach of the rules that could not reasonably have been seen with the naked eye at the time. The committee should conclude that no breach occurred and the player should not be penalized. I told him I definitely was looking down towards the ball as I was taking that practice swing and I didn’t see it move. So, I had to take the penalty. It was a very tough situation for him to be put in. I thought that he uh he handled it really well. I feel bad for the guy. Definitely not the ideal outcome in this type of situation, but it’s obviously very disappointing.

  1. Integrity is what the game is based on .
He said he didn't see it..
    Nothing improved. Nothing changed..
Wet ,heavy, crappy lie .. is what it is !

  2. His club did hit that longer stick/foliage… the ball looked like it was resting against that and when he hit it, the ball moved.
That said, HDTV is the only one who saw that. Didn’t change the shot for Lowery at all…. BUT…. If you are a PGA player in 2025, you have to now take that in to consideration

  3. FACTS….. The ball (logo) moved . Shane did NOT see it move….. “WHAT YOU GOT TO DO ?” is rescind the two shots to his score and apologies to the golfing world for the officials mistake in this case.

  4. He says he didn’t see it……. But the rules state that if the ball moves and he didn’t call it it’s a two stroke penalty ….. so that’s what he got.

  5. Can someone tell me why Justin Thomas didn't received a one shot penalty for waiting over 20 seconds for his ball to drop in the hole on the 3rd hole on the Friday. When after 10 seconds you are penalised one shot or are we not bothered with the rules of golf any more.

  6. It’s a one-shot penalty for causing it to move. It’s a two-shot penalty if it moves and you hit it from the new location.

  7. Guilty as charged. He has a nasty attitude just like Montgomery and McIntyre and also McIlroy I never pull for these guys they give golf a bad name.

  8. The unfortunate thing is that if the player was lower ranked or in the lower half of the tournament standings, more than likely there would be no cameras on them and these types of penalties would not be seen. Either have a camera on every player regardless of who they are, or eliminate the camera replay all together and it can't be used in these situations. The camera coverage should be the same for every participant.

  9. If they are going to use video then they need to put a camera on EVERY PLAYERS BALL!! This is a crappy call. The question I have is did it improve his lie? Nope!
