you know they say a picture is worth a thousand words well if true I need not say anymore [Music] welcome to lanet golf club and this is why I do what I [Music] do I’ve lost count of how many golf courses I’ve played over the last few years and I hope to continue this journey of dis Discovery off the Beaten Track has led me to some of the most incredible places meet incredible people and gave myself on my channel a new purpose that purpose is to help golf clubs who might be sometimes overlooked but are deserving of the [Music] Limelight it’s falling sideways oh my God he made it we should have had the camera that way to just see how much break that is well this is one of those very courses I’ve just described and uh I came here last evening took a walk around and I’ve got a feeling this could be Scotland’s Hidden Gem finest Hidden Gem that I’m yet to discover I only heard about Lan Golf Club in recent months and that’s largely due to the efforts made by the club to produce high quality content for social media now I hope I can share with you what it was that caught my eye and got me [Music] here oh that’s another bogey on the card I’m afraid and there’s there’s been a few but uh the course itself has a bit of an update through I think that was seven holes is the there little greens you can probably see from the screen that are rolling so so pure look incredible definition from ta green again is stunning in terms of the visual but it’s also a tough all routing there’s a couple of long par fours in that opening stretch of those seven holes and I’ve certainly got perhaps a few more Bogies on me card than I would like but on my word I don’t care too much because when you look back at the views this place is stunning only seven HS [Music] [Applause] [Music] in oh made our way to the 11th T and to be honest with you we’ve gone out very early in front of what is a medal round and between them and the green staff were trying to dodge in between so I’m not talking and showing you perhaps as much as a light but we’ve got loads caught on camera of just how good this place is and that previous par three um bit of Drone footage for you now our absolute belt in Al gol ho but maybe more importantly this sort of position furthest away from the clubhouse I think around 10 11 is so so quiet and uh as Pat Ruddy said which I keep quoting it’s a time to smell the roses and just chill for a bit I’ve just teed off as well hit a decent forward down there hole really Narrows up by the looks of things and uh yeah we’re in good Nick but this is all about as well as being just an amazingly good golf course and a real Discovery in my opinion it’s just so tranquil and my type of golf I love life out here in uh such quiet and pretty settings this is one of the oldest golf clubs in the world and is the oldest Inland course that remains on its original land in 1897 at a cost of £310 Shillings old Tom Morris was employed to lay out 18 holes and in 1927 James braid supervised the construction of several new holes to produce the basic layout which with the exception of longer teas and modern bunkering remains largely unchanged this day lanic golf club can be found south of both Glasgow and Edinburgh and probably just an hour’s drive to each of those major cities from what I can see the most you’ll ever pay to play lck is a70 Green fee which is in the peak times of the main season well we’ll just wait for the green staff just to finish this next t- box on uh what’s that 12 or 13 now I don’t know and uh discovering a course like this for me is what this whole thing has been about and I love traveling and finding new golf courses whil I like being a member somewhere and and getting some you know familiarity with a place I love finding a new course and finding somewhere that’s really decent and then being able to share it with you as an audience is uh is just what my Channel’s all about and then if I get to find out that any of you ever watch a video and then go to play one of the golf courses because you’ve seen it on the channel well then uh I’m a happy man I feel like I’m doing my bit towards promoting Golf and after all I mean that’s what this is all about isn’t it [Music] [Applause] [Music] this could be good if it’s the right yardage it’s all over it it it’s probably been about the best part of my game today has been me wedgies I’ve struggled a bit off the tea pulling a bit left and this is a typical old where I could have been uh in the longer stuff through not quite understanding the layout and it’s a course I’d definitely love to play again uh with a better understanding of where I should be what clubs I should use off the tea and that kind of says to me it’s very much that thinking man’s course again where I love the fact that you don’t just bash driver you have to plot your way around and try and find the angles to come in I got a good angle in here but like I said a few yards further to my left and I’d have been in a bit of trouble but I got a birdie chance one of the main features of the golf course is without doubt the greens and one because of the condition of them they’re fantastic as you can see but the other thing is the movement in them they’re all fairly substantial in size but there’s a huge amount of movement and I’ve just did a little Chip Shot not the greatest come up short thought and I’m on a wrong tier and all of a sudden the difficulty of this put is uh a far different than if I managed to get another 10 yards or so with the wedge that’s a decent pace it’s not bad but every Green has been the same and I can imagine they can have some real fun with the pin positions so uh getting your ball from T to Green is one part but then getting in the O that’s uh that’s another challenge that’s okay but it’ll be a long way on the second one because uh the 15th is a par for stroke two 445 yards off the yellows which is forced me to get the driver out but I’ll still have a a good couple of hundred so more and there’s been a few of them few long par fours we’re actually into a bit of draft as well well so that’s a tough start to the finishing stretch on 15 I love the sun was starting to fade the 16th was one of my favorite holes maybe because I ate a decent te- shot a lovely Par Four from a slightly elevated tea Fairway bunkers a weight and a burn runs in front of a small Target [Music] [Music] I read that lanic is often compared favorably with the king’s course of Glenn Eagles ofering a similar mall and challenge setting a wonderful Scenic Countryside and it’s easy to understand the parallels lanak is a great layout on a mall and setting that is an incredibly good condition from te green those greens roll true the course as a charm and character G treescapes wildlife and color with far reaching views Scotland is blessed with so many courses to choose from but often You’ll Play a course based on reputation or medeor exposure and there are so many courses that do not get the recognition they deserve I don’t believe any course should want a title of being a Hidden Gem although I might selfishly choose to keep them a secret myself I feel it’s my duty to share with you the courses I find went off the Beaten Track and you know what the plan seems to be working I’m meeting more and more people who say they’ve been inspired to travel and go and visit a golf course because they’ve seen it on the channel and for me there couldn’t be anything better as I’ve already mentioned I also got to say that a lot of people come up and stop and say hello and uh I love that it’s uh it’s really humbling when somebody you you meet somebody that watches the channel it makes it all the more real anyway that’s another day done uh it’s been a busy all week done a lot of traveling and uh going to make our way home and I think we’ve discovered like I said one of Scotland’s finest hidden gems it’s uh I don’t think it’ll stay hidden for too much longer

  1. Hello Andy. Another wonderful golf course to discover one day. And the weather was perfect. 😊😊😊

  2. Looks a belter. Bittersweet video for me. Was supposed to play Lanark a few years ago on day 1 of a Scottish golf trip. However an accident on the m6 (we were travelling up from Liverpool) meant we were unable to play it. The club tried to accommodate us but a packed schedule meant it couldn’t be made to work. Clearly time to head back!

  3. Coops & I were lucky enough to stumble upon this gem on one of our work trips up a few years ago. Been itching to get back ever since! Great track! 18th tee shot gets the juices flowing doesn’t it pal. 🫣🥴

  4. This could be a contender in September. Joined Tain after you visited it’s a long way from home inCornwall, would normally fly up but in September my son and me are driving. Over night stay at mothers b&b at Barnard Castle so this would be a good stop off plus it’s a James Braid as is our club, favourable rates. Great video.

  5. Like Dan said what a track and the 18th wow !!! ❤ yet another great video Andy 👏👏👏🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🤛

  6. Another brilliant review Andy, golf for me is not just about the game itself. At 75 my best golf is done but the rest of "golf" the course and is surounds, the wild life the layout are more important these days.

  7. It was always going to be tough to follow Ireland off the beaten track, but you sure did hit the spot again with this one at Lanark. Having visited Scotland several times over the years I have never even considered Lanark as a course to visit, but you have single handedly changed my thinking for the future.

  8. Courses you enjoy and have fun not fight each hole are the courses I like to play . I enjoy watching the courses you go to . We have a nice little course here in Sullivan Indiana , small town It is demanding but me and my wife enjoy going out and playing it .

  9. Lucky enough to call Lanark my home club. It’s a sensational course and great to see this giving a platform for others to come and find out how great golf is on the moor. Thanks Andy for the glowing review.

  10. I femember telling you about Lanark when you were building your van. Said youll need to get yourself up and play it. 2 weeks ago was our anual invitational day and the greens were rapid. Shame you're not around now for another go! With the rain, the rough is so tough now. But the greens are superb. Glad you loved it 👌🏼

  11. My Goodness That is a Beautiful Place. I really do wish I could get to come over there One Day. It just looks So Peaceful and Beautiful.

  12. What a Scottish surprise. It almost looks like it could be in the foothills of the U.S. Appalachians or wherever else someone might imagine. Just beautiful (though I think they've all been beautiful).

  13. Great review. Lucky enough to call myself a member of this course. Great exposure for the club 👏🏻

  14. I'm literally just of the course, Lanark held a midweek gents open competition today, more clubs need to be thinking the same due to the amount of people who work shifts. 140+ entrants at £35 a head, that's roughly £5000 of income on a Tuesday (minus a couple of hundred for prizes) and may just stop the members being burdened with a membership increase next season.

  15. Love this one Andy. A very beautiful course. My kind of golf. I don’t care much about playing famous courses with greens fees in the hundreds and hundreds of dollars because I can’t afford them. That is golf for the very rich. The cost takes the fun out of it. And many famous courses are strictly private with membership fees of $100,000 or more, years long waiting lists, and you need to be sponsored by a member to even be considered. That’s the world of the billionaires. I play a half dozen very good county owned public courses, including one that hosts US Open preliminary qualifiers and stretches 7400 from the tips (at 83 years of age I have moved up to the 5800 – 6200 tees), play during the week and after 2 pm when fees are well below maximum weekend morning fees, and buy an annual senior discount plan for $50. I sign up as a single and am happy to play with anyone. All combined it means I can play a round for $42 including cart. I like courses surrounded by woods and natural areas, not lines of fancy houses I also can’t afford. So, Andy, this is an ideal course for me. Thanks for the beautiful photos.

  16. Cracking course. It’s a bit out the way but reachable by train if you are in glasgow or Edinburgh

I’m only down the road from it

The new club pro, Graham Gormley, is a great coach. Helped me with my game based on what movements my body can do

Can’t wait to see how the pro shop & coaching will be taken to a new level

  17. Another great video at a lovely course and location Andy! The views and layout look brilliant. On what you said in the video, watching your off the beaten track series has inspired me to go and play some of these courses (I'd love to go and do the ones from your recent 'Irish swing'!) and I'm trying to plan a trip to go and play Southerness, Powfoot and maybe now Lanark as a 3 dayer later in the summer! Keep up the good work!👏

  18. Another brilliant video Andy. You’re telling the stories of real golf, both verbally and visually. Love your work. I’m living vicariously through you!

  19. It's giving me serious baby brother Gleneagles vibes, looks a superb track, great work.

  20. I have to apologize about something. I just watched an episode on the Luke Kwon channel and left a comment that his channel was quickly becoming my favorite. A minute after I posted it I realized my mistake. I think what prompted the comment was it subliminally reminded me of your channel using nice music sprinkled in and scenery. Not as artistically as you do though. Of course your channel is my actual favorite. Never stop making episodes.

  21. Enjoyed this Andy played Lanark a few times great course , we have a reciprocal with it , hidden gems , you should try the West coast Ayrshire along from Dundonald ,, Largs golf club is outstanding and always great condition and West kilbride
    Keep the content coming

  22. Heading to Scotland from Portland, oregon usa in sept
I will definitely check out this course
    Thanks,great channel!! Forge ahead
it is wonderful and amazing videography and photography!!

  23. Cheers for the video! We’re leaving Devon at 5am Tomorrow morning for a 7hr drive to play Lanark! Then off to Troon for The Open on Friday! This place looks amazing. Can’t wait to get involved Tomorrow 👍💪

  24. Beautiful course some hard holes but a gem.. pricey in the summer but a good deal can sometimes be had on Golf Now 🏌🏼‍♂️⛳️

  25. I was a junior member there in the late 70's into the early 80's. A fantastic course that was also a regional qualifying venue for the Open Championship. Nice seeing some of the young trees from back then now looking very mature. You've done a great job of showing golfers what a great course it is. If you decide to do a welsh hidden gems then try my home club "The Rolls of Monmouth" tis beautiful and well worth a visit.
