Ian Poulter is confident that the LIV Golf event in the Midlands will inspire a new generation of young golfers.

Speaking during Wednesday’s conference at the JCB Golf and Country Club, the Ryder Cup veteran emphasised the importance of the Little Sticks program, which aims to create an enjoyable environment during the event to unleash youth’s potential through golf.

“Yeah, it’s amazing. I mean, we’re kind of two years into Little Sticks and Jordan and his team and with the help of my fellow co-captains (Lee Westwood and Henrik Stenson) and Sam, we’ve built what is, we feel an incredible curriculum that’s gone into the PE school system” he said.

Poulter also expressed hope that kids will be able to access the game of golf through this program:

“I think it’s pretty remarkable today, with the help of LIV and everyone involved, that we can hit that many kids in such a short space of time. So, big thanks to everyone involved that’s been able to help us implement that properly. It’s pretty special to see.”

With the recent announcement that the 2031 Ryder Cup will be held in Spain, the Englishman took the opportunity to comment on the challenge that the team Europe will face as they will defend their 2023 title on American soil next September:

“Okay, I didn’t know that. Fantastic. I think that’ll be absolutely amazing. Great venue, obviously. The last time it was there (1997), Seve (Ballesteros) was captain and obviously was victorious. So, you know, hopefully, Luke and the team will have a great time out in Bethpage Black. I know it’s going to be hard. It’s going to be loud. It’s going to be intense for them. But you know any away rider cup is super hard. So, hopefully the lads can do a good job and bring that trophy back. “

The LIV Golf UK tournament at JCB Golf and Country Club will start tomorrow, 25th July 2025.
