Why do I hit short irons thin? If you struggle to hit the ball solid with your short irons, this set up trick may help you make better contact. Short irons can be as hard to hit as longer clubs because you have to keep all your angles. This video should make them easier!

hello I’m Sue shapot and today I’m at no golf club in Bristol England and in this video I’m going to give you um a strategy if you tend to thin or top your Shore irons and [Music] wedges here the short irons obviously are the shorter shafted clubs that you have in your bag and so in order to make good contact with them then the posture has to be really good so that you can get the club head down to the bottom of the ball so a lot of the time you can do that by making sure that you have a good posture where you bend from your hips but if you’re relatively tall then even if you are very diligent with your posture then during your swing because you’re having to bend so much from your hips it can be pretty hard to stay at that posture so even if you start with a good posture then that’s when the Thins and the tops can happen with your shorter clubs so one thing that you can try with these clubs is just widening your stance a little bit and I know that may sound counter intuitive then we tend to talk about widening The Stance with the driver to give you more stability but by widening The Stance with your really short clubs if you’re tall then it’s going to lower your center of gravity you’re going to be less dependent on maintain in perfect posture and it should help you get to the bottom of your swing or get to the bottom of the ball and uh reduce how many Thins and top shots that you hit so this would be the case for you know really short pitches um you know midsize pitches or even if you’re trying to hit a full shot with your wedge or your um 99 or your you know 60° Club so let’s give that a try I’m 5’8 I’m relatively tall and so I’ve got a sand wedge here so I’m going to make sure that my posture is good making sure I’ve got a good bend from my hips but I’m also going to just widen the stance that’s going to lower my center of gravity and it’s going to increase my chances of getting to the bottom of the ball Okay so if you do have a tendency to thin or top your wedges then give that a try widen your stance lower your center of gravity and see if that helps you get down to the bottom of the ball thanks very much for watching please check out some of our other videos and don’t forget to subscribe to our YouTube [Music] [Applause] channel [Music]
