Donald Trump’s Scotland trip draws division among locals

Trump’s visit to Scotland draws backlash as protesters link him to Epstein with a sign outside his Aberdeen golf course.

One of the oldest PGA Tour events in the South is also the last chance for players to make the top 70 on the FedEx Cup points list and qualify for the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

The Wyndham Championship will begin on July 31 at the Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C., previously known as the Greater Greensboro Open. The tournament has been on the Tour schedule since 1938 when Sam Snead won it for the first of a record eight times.

It’s a pretty stout field. In addition to last week’s 3M Open winner Kurt Kitayama, major champions Jordan Spieth, Matt Fitzpatrick, Hideki Matsuyama, Zach Johnson, Webb Simpson, Gary Woodland, Keegan Bradley and Lucas Glover are in the field.

The Greensboro event used to be a staple in March or April on the Tour and for years was the last chance for a player to win and make the field for the Masters Tournament. It has been played on three courses, Sedgefield, the Starmount Forest Golf Club and Forest Oaks.

Davis Love III redesigned Sedgefield and the tournament returned there in 2008. Love then became the oldest winner on Tour when he won the tournament at the age of 51 in 2015 since Snead won his eighth title at Greensboro in 1965 at 52.

Wyndham Championship favorites, odds

Fitzpatrick, who contended deep into the final round of the British Open, is the favorite by BetMGM at +2000 on the money line. Behind him are defending champion Aaron Rai and North Carolina native Ben Griffin (+2500), Bradley (+2800) and Robert MacIntyre (+3000).

Andrew Novak: He has no need to accomplish much, sitting at 12th on the FedEx Cup. But Novak was born in Raleigh, N.C., went to college at Wofford in South Carolina and should be loose and relaxed, a good combination for winning golf. He hasn’t contended at Sedgefield but has made the last two cuts and he’s on a streak of six made cuts in a row.

Keegan Bradley: The U.S. Ryder Cup captain would love to earn his way into a playing spot at Bethpage and winning this late in the season would show he’s still on form. Bradley has three top-10 finishes this summer, including his victory in the Travelers, and in 12 competitive rounds at Sedgefield, has shot in the 60s eight times.

Matt Fitzpatrick: He might be from England but he’s spent a lot of time playing golf in the Carolinas and has finish 17th or higher in his last four starts, including three top 10 finishes.
